I wish they had the whole album on UA-cam, I was disappointed that they don't, the 1st album was slamming from start to finish, these ladies are all sexy asf
They weren’t "ahead of their time". This was 100% the time they belonged in. It's such a common "well-meaning mistake of complimenting" to think that just because something is an outlier means it's "ahead of it's time." What they actually were was ultra-creative, exceptional, and unique. Not "out of their own time."
😍 They looked fierce!!! 🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥🔥 I feel Grace Jones, Iman, and Naomi Campbell vibes everywhere when watching this, but their voices weren’t very strong. Maybe that’s why they didn’t go that far. 😐
When En Vogue came out with Hold On three years later, I thought Madame X was them, LOL!! Didn't figure out the difference until I saw the video to Hold On premier on BET's Video Soul weekly countdown with Donnie Simpson all those eons ago!!
this group was the best R&B group in the 1980's- they had problems though! there was another band of white kids named "madame X" as a group - the black lady with the powerful voice and long beautiful black hair ,died - the group split up and both of the survivors went their own way
@@tonewest211 Looking back at them now, they and Bernadette Cooper were ahead of their time!! Just now realizing, even their overall look was "En Vogue" before En Vogue!!
I use to love this song they disappeared without a trace. Didn’t know this song was from 87 I know it was from back in the day . They don’t sound great live tho but the record was a slammer
I can't believe they weren't bigger, my sister had their tape and I jacked it, used to listen to it all the time with my walkman riding the bus all over the city...
Alisa Randolph ( black hair, no hat) put out a solo album in 1990 that was also produced by Bernadette Cooper. Supposedly it was to be a second Madame X album. Alisa passed away in 2005. Don't know anything about the other two girls.
i'm commenting as someone who hasn't ever heard of this group and have never heard the studio version of this song, and. .. This is kind of terrible. i had to pause this video and check out the music video. To their credit, the video was state of the art. Vanessa Williams reused the setting for her "Comfort Zone" video. The difference between "Comfort Zone' and "Just That Type Of Girl" is that "Comfort Zone" actually sounds good. And Vanessa's video was saturated with warm and inviting vibrant color, despite also being shot in a desert. i don't know how long Madam X lasted, but i can't imagine that they lasted more than one album.
I love madame x butt there definitely not great live i think the studio version of this has Bernadette cooper mainly doing the vocals the studio version is way better butt Bernadette prolly really sang it n real life n madame x was back up vocals for sure they suck live can't lie
They were the real deal and ahead of their time. The audience here didn't deserve them. Everyone should have been on their feet, dancing.
I wish they had the whole album on UA-cam, I was disappointed that they don't, the 1st album was slamming from start to finish, these ladies are all sexy asf
They were way, way ahead of their time. Props to the Brilliant Bernadette Cooper.
👏👏👏👏
Agreed!!

I loved Madame X when I was a teenager. I loved their fashion bc it was so fly and unique.
Vanity 6, Madame X and Jody Watley the real queens of 80s RnB/Funk, they were the blue print of everything that came after them.
This joint was on point. First time seeing them live they sound good! Too bad they didn't go further real talent for sure

As if they would produced by Prince.
They were sharp. That Mohawk was fierce.
They did that! They were just ahead of their time.
Way before there time.....This tune is still spinning on my turntable in 2020...
This came out in 1987.
The music video to this song is cool.
Word
Fabulous. Played their album to death back then. Cherries In The Snow is a masterpiece.x
This and "Cherries in the Snow" was my sh*t. I'd rock those outfits and that hair right now. They were definitely ahead of their time.

Interesting...on music alone I can see that.
This was my jam!
Alisa Randolph passed away years ago. She's the raven colored beauty and had the BEST voice. She does have a solo cd.
Yes , self titled .
the beat is slamming
That's my big sister Alisa Randolph
RIP 12/7/2005 😢❤
They were so bad! Love this song
Loved them! Being a collector of vinyl, I am making it my mission to find a copy of their sole album.
The album was actually released on CD as well - I have had it and the vinyl for years. Priceless part of my new wave collection
yes claiming our sexuality!

anthony w That's bkz there weren't too many ppl in the audience back then who had a "Platinum American Expres$ Card!" 🗽 💍 🍹 ⛵
They must've been born without the funk gene.
@@tonewest211 LOL!! Yeah!!

My only complaint about this performance when I saw it live on 📺 way waayy back in the day wz that they skipped the entire 2nd verse. 🎭
nice performance of this song, they sound like the recorded version, which is great
I use to love this song they disappeared without a trace. Didn’t know this song was from 87 I know it was from back in the day . They don’t sound great live tho but the record was a slammer
Dayum! I didn't see that coming! Those ladies were legit!

The audience is so dead🙄🙄🙄
It must have been theme of the song but definitely Devine !!!!
The audience didn't seem very enthusiastic.
They remind me of LaBelle. Very edgy for their day
I'm surprised RuPaul hasn't had this song on a Lip Sync
I literally just told my friend this like two days ago!

The music to this song was the best part, they were not the best performers or singers. 🤷♀️
