Did anyone else notice how much Juan Pablo reminds you of Pedro in Napoleon Dynamite? Could be an older version of the same guy.

Obviously that's a matter of perspective. The show is ongoing and he didn't last as long as some other contestants. I definitely think he was great and could have done longer but to say he is the best ever I don't think even he would agree. He did the minimal to survive. If he was gonna go longer he would have been more proactive

@@BuserODL he did the minimal to save calories. It's not a fun strategy to watch but it worked for him.

what did he do that sticks with you ??? what could you take from his time with the other 9 members that you feel you could take to the wilderness???? did you NOT notice that the show barely show him doing anything ...... SOooooo disappointed in the Alone producers if someone isn't contributing they need to be removed for health reasons

With the adze and full length shovel handles, it's a snap to make the two clay-refining pits on a hillside and fill the upper one with water and shoreline mud. Over the next few days, the clay in the mix will go into solution and can be drained off into the sedimentation pit. In a few days, you''ll have lots of pure, workable clay. Get it drying out, of course. As soon as you have enough netting to be catching more fish than you can eat per day, get busy making the mud kiln and the charcoal needed to make the pottery. Once the clay has dried out enough, make the pots. Let the pots dry for a couple of days covering them at night with the producer's 10x16 ft tarp vs rain. Then a day for firing the pots and their lids, and let them cool overnight. You also make the 100 baked-clay balls for the slingbow. Then you're not constantly wasting hours and calories as you look for (probably damaged) arrows that you foolishly shot at squirrels and grouse.

A 200 lb bear offers 200,000 calories. So yes, it IS worth a day to make a stake and log bait-box and a tree blind. Making 4" mesh netting is very quiet, because the meshes are so big.. When you need 2" mesh netting,, you lay one segment of 4" mesh over another one, slightly offsetting the top one. Then you sew thru the meshes here and there and the effect is you have 2" mesh netting, while taking much less time and cordage to do so. You just gotta be smarter than the fish. That's difficult for most people, but quite feasible.

you dont need the cookpot, ferrorod, axe, paracord, gillnet, or snarewire. That's how you get to take the salt, pemmican, GORP, 12x12 ft reflective tarp, big roll of duct tape. You take the reflective tyvek bivy instead of the sleeping bag. Take the saw edged shovel instead of the saw. Take a slingbow instead of a bow. Take a two person cotton rope hammock instead of the fishing kit. Take a modified Crunch multitool. In an hour each, you can make any one of the 4 different lengths-configurations of handles for the shovel. Without a handle, the shovel is a SKILLET, trowel, "big-knife" and prybar.

in one day, you can make a pontoon outrigger log FRAMED raft. When you make enough netting, it's quite easy to catch more fish per day than you can eat, so you can use the surplus to bait a bear into your tree blind and arrow it from 10m away. Small game hunting, with a bow, trapping small animals and fishing without barbed hooks and organic bait ARE not worth the calories used in so doing. However fishing with 1000 sq ft of 2" mesh netting, used as baited net weirs and a seine and 800 sq ft of 4" mesh gillnet IS worth doing and so is sitting in a tree blind as you make netting, waiting for a fat-for-hibernation bear to come to your stake and log bait-box. When you dont know what to take or do, yes, all you can do is lay there in your sleeping bag, but that's a crock and shouldnt be allowed. men over 20% bodyfat and women over 25% should not be allowed on this challenge. That's just a bunch of rule-beating, boring bs.

My personal opinion is that it’s disrespectful to ALL the other members who are really trying to win with their survival skills and lose after giving it their all and then you someone who puts all a bunch of weight and lays around hoping everyone else fails. Complete BS. If you notice he didn’t even film much him doing anything other than pier I kept wondering what happened to him after no video for so long. I watch to learn and watch others with great skills This was PATHETIC.

Tune in next season to watch the 500 lb “survivor” lay on his bed and fast for 90 days to win $500,000. This seems to be the way this program is going. Congratulations to Juan on winning, not taking anything away from him, he did what was allowed and won. However I watch this program to see survival skills practiced and not how to fast. If I wanted that, I’d watch an anorexic persons channel. Ultimately the long term end result of this tactic is death from lack of food and not long term survival in an extreme environment.

My thoughta exactly! The thing is if any of the others had managed a large animal kill, they would have won and not juan who only won because he started out fatter than everyone else. The scenario I described led to "Biko the Large" losing because "Clay the Hunter" downed a Buck deer.
