Awesome seeing Equilibrium get an honorable mention. Vastly under-appreciated film.
Dark Knight really is one of the best action movies. I would also consider Van Helsing and several Marvel (X2, Iron Man, Blade 2...) movies as best actions. Then there is Open Range, Transformers 2 and Rambo.
So wait...Iron Man and Spiderman 2 didn't make this list but Bad Boys 2 did? Alrighty then!
I would not call any of these movies an action movie. Commando was an action movie. Barbar Conan could also be considered an action movie, there are just a few lines but a lot of action but it was still not an action movie. I think their list of 80s top 10 action movies was more on point.
DC really needs to hurry up and make more good movies like The Dark Knight trilogy because damn Marvel is kicking their ass.
That's true the only good movies dcs made in years were suicide squad and wonder woman . superman vs Batman and justice league sucked . aquaman. Meh ! And I hears birds of prey sucked as well. Dcs failing miserably!

Casino Royale and The Dark Knight are great movies, but The Bourne Trilogy, especially Ultimatum, was the action king of the 2000's. It's the only true great "Action" movie that came out in the 2000's.

I love the Dark Knight, but is that seriously an action movie? Like the action is not what drives the movie, it's the characters and the psychology. The scenes where the Joker is just talking are the best parts, not the action. It's like calling The Avengers a comedy, yeah there are jokes in it but they're not the most important part of the movie.
I agree with you, it's an absolutely fantastic movie, but its action doesn't stand up to movies that are completely about action. I think it belongs at the top of a different list than this one.

It's a Crime/Drama film with some action elements. It's sort of like Scarface or Fight Club. There are some intense action sequences in both, yet the dramatic scenes are what build each film's reputation.

the 90's were definitely the best decade of action (and movies in general), con air, face/off, the rock, rumble in the Bronx, T2, die hard with a vengeance, heat, point break, true lies, under siege, speed, the matrix, and my favorite, total recall. plus it was the best decade for movies in general. pulp fiction, usual suspects (my favorite) etc...

FatBox Mission Impossible 3 is a much better action movie than it gets credit for. Fast and furious and Bad Boys 2 ranked higher than 300 is the real letdown.

Justin Scott Why would you? It is a psychological thriller that happens to have a few action scenes spread through out it, just because a film has an action scene in it does not automatically make it an action film. In my opinion one of the weakest parts of The Dark Knight was the action.
Nolan BArth I have to agree with you. I think the Dark Knight was a brilliant masterpiece of a movie and probably one of the best ever made but it shouldn't really be on this list as a claimed action movie. I agree that it is more a thriller then anything and should if anything come first on a list of the top 10 thrillers.
Out of the whole trilogy of Nolan's Batman films I actually prefer the very first one. Like I said before I just don't think it belongs on this list...

I like this list but I do agree that there are a lot of omissions, there are only 10 slots so you had to cut it at one point. Shoot Em Up was a personal favorite tho.
Jason Bourne is my all time favorite action character. Good list IMHO.
Mission Impossible 3 was a random movie I choose to watch on Netflix one night and by god did it ever wow me. Philip S Hoffman's bad guy was amazing and stole the show. It's a must watch for sure.

It was the best of the last decade.
Ahh, 300. Easily one of my favorite movies to come out. The special effects and action were just amazing. And sense the 'story' was so simple, there was no need to explain it, just good ole spillin' guts and killing Persians, for around an hour and half.
Its great because it did what it was suppose to, show a beautiful looking movie about 300 Spartans making the ultimate sacrifice, for there country, ultimately ending in a 'glorious death'.. and of course the bad ass battle/fight scenes.

You guys need to watch more foreign movies for a start if you want action. Ong Bak is definitely better than all of those. How about Jet Li's Unleashed for god sake. Kiss of the Dragon - another movie better than the pretty decent Transporter. How about Banlieu 13 even. Ip Man. Flashpoint. Perhaps Crouching Tiger, House of Flying Daggers, Hero. Most assuredly, Jet Li's Fearless could arguably take #1 for action where Dark Knight would not rank. Some of these are the best movies EVER made. And most astonishingly, not even an honorable mention for Battle Royale which I could comfortably put #1.

There's actually a pretty underrated Jet Li movie called Kiss of the Dragon. It's pure action, all about kickin' asses and stuff and has a great style. Should be on the list. P.S: The Dark Knight is pretty awesome, but not as an action film.

however there are action movies from the 2000s that I really enjoyed such as taken, bourne trilogy, casino royale, the transporter, transformers, the boondock saints. .and the 80's had good stuff to like terminator, die hard, aliens, above the law, first blood, predator, commando. i'm a huge action fan.

As amazing as The Dark Knight is, it's not an action its a drama.
Another great movie list, but I really feel like you guys keep overlooking important movies like say, Gladiator. And back in your '90s video you also looked over Saving Private Ryan. An altogether gruesome film but an iconic action film.

Black Hawk Down and Live Free Die Hard should've made the actual list, not an honorable mention. Those movies were completely badass and non-stop action.
Man, this list pretty much just made me realise how few action movies I actually like. Of these I'd probably put Matrix Reloaded at 1, I thought it was underrated. The plot wasn't as good as the first but the action was still good.
In truth most of my list would probably be anime.

So we can see from this list that we're definitely in an age of franchises, as 6 of these movies (and 2 honorable mentions) are sequels, while the other four got sequels later.
I was a bit surprised to not see any Lord of the Rings or Spider-Man movies. But man, now that I think about it, the 2000s had soooooooooooo many good action movies, this is a hard list to do, and EVERYONE'S list would be different.
Plus, the 2000's just passed, so it's hard to label any movie from that era as 'iconic'. Knowing that, this list is hard to do.
Lord of the Rings though would be considered more of adventure fantasy ya know. It doesn't have explosions and gun fights and everything in between

Personally the action from Equilibrium puts the Matrix to shame.
Dunno if Equilibrium came first or not, but it reminds me of the fighting in Ultra-Violet with Milla Jovovich.

***** Not really, there is no suspense in Equilibrium, for the main character has god mode turned on the entire time and I don't remember a time where he felt in danger. The fucking Terminator in Terminator 2 was not as unstoppable as bale.

The 2000s have very few narrowly-defined actions movies such as Die Hard, Lethal Weapon etc. Some of these are spy movies, or sci-fi etc...The 80s and 90s were the era of the action movie.
The Dark Knight is great but I wouldn't call it an action movie.
