I worked with Lee at Brigham Sportswear in the '70s (before it relocated to Brigham City) and was lucky enough to operate and do some construction on his layout. It rekindled my interest in model railroading and I am currently on my third HO layout. Hello Lee!
Very nice layout ! Love the curvy track alignments and great backdrops . Yea,SP sugar beet trains through Simi Valley CA in the seventies as a kid.Thank You.
This was an awesome video. I've operated on the UCW, although it's been ages. My own Utah, Colorado & Western Railroad follows the pattern of Lee's UCW. Seeing the changes in operation and paperwork is very interesting. Thanks for sharing that. Great job.
I really enjoyed this video of Lee’s layout. He did a terrific job with the layout and his narration was top notch. Really keeps your attention. Obviously a great job at editing too. Thanks for one of your best layout tours John.
Enjoyed the video. COB is chip on board and refers to the method of construction. The circuit is built as part of the board as opposed to added later, it makes things very small and neat.
I remember the MR magazine article with Lee's D&RGW version of the Utah Colorado Western. Being a Rio Grande fan I really enjoyed that presentation. This is a very nice layout with nicely done back drops as well! Looks like the aisle might be tight for operators passing each other.
great video I wish you guys would have showed more of the layout is there another video similar to this one it just shows the layout with trains running?
I think this was the first layout I've ever seen as a kid, was this in a 1985 issue of MR? Maybe I'm thinking of a different but similar layout tho lol.
Great video and layout -- very inspiring! It sounds like you have a wonderful circle of friends who help you. I am really interested in the layout management software. Is it commercially available or maybe as open source? What language is it written in and what software stacks are you using? Thanks for sharing this beautiful model!
Stephen, thanks for viewing the video. The software is called "Rail Agent Plus" and is an Access program and for now is not commercially available. If you're interested in learning more about RAP let me know I can give you a Zoom tour. Lee

Very enjoyable presentation. Thanks to Mr. Nicholas (and TSG) for this. The layout and explanation of the operation scheme are very well done.

What an elaborate and beautiful plate to do ops! I absolutely love the original vintage switch panels and cabinets, call boxes, etc.
A masterpiece of work!!!
Beautiful layout, one of the best I've seen in a while.
F A N T A S T I C !!! Thank you for sharing !!!
So interesting to see how the UCW has developed over the decades and how Lee and his crew have solved problems and upgraded the experience.

Wow! I have the Allen Keller video of Lee's layout. Great video John! Excellent job of editing and Lee is a great host.
Wow, I love the Beet Industry. Those cars remind me of watching S.P. come thru at harvest time in Central Calif. Nice.
Fantastic layout and video!

@@ucwrrd, thank you for the offer -- I will get back to you on that!
Does anyone know if the "rail agent plus" operations software is a commercial product or if it's just been created for Lee's UCW?
