@@PereMarquette1223 I already had to explain why Union Pacific won't take and restore this engine to use as their "steam switcher" so I didn't bother to explain rod slop to this guy. Someone else have at it.
Gives me end of steam vibes. I can only imagine this is what a Y6 would sound like at the very end, coasting down a mountain pass with several thousand tons behind it.
I fail to see how it’s annoying. There’s kind of an interestingly peculiar rhythm to it, not to mention it sounds like an echo of the chugging she’d make if she were fired up.
The guys that run them say it's better to hear them than to smell them. The interesting thing to me when I saw her pass through here, is how the ground flexed from the pounding of the unbalanced drivers with the main rod off.
Unless they fiddled with the balance in the drivers she should have been set for the main rod that was removed for this transit. That would definitely cause a serious out of balance similar to a car wheel with balance weights removed. She may also have some cross balancing to limit the impact of the reciprocating forces caused by the main rod and piston (that is not moving here!). Her speed is about 25 mph in one of the faster segments and that is enough that the dynamic forces will be significant and can lift the drivers off of the rails. The same forces have bent rails when they weren't controlled, usually by the engine going much faster than the balance weights could support. Look up Dynamic Augment for more information. Based on the 25 mph speed that might even by why she is so noisy during this video.
This clanking gives you the thinking it goes under it's own power. Edit some steam and you got a video of it operating. Can I use that rare footage of this giant?❤❤❤❤❤❤

I sometimes like to imagine locomotives hard at work. And when I do so ill have the clanking sound playing in my head to indicate the engine is working hard.
Yep he's sure. You wouldnt have heard the clanking this clearly and plus, This was during her move to her current home where her valve gear was removed and she was hauled by a diesel. You can also see that alot of her valve gear was removed. Even if she WAS in steam she couldnt move under her own power because too much of her valve gear has been removed.
The people who were moving her I guess. My only guess as to why this was done was to prevent more wear and tear on the valve gear. From the video based off of how severse the clanking sounds. Her valve gear is heavily worn out and if that is the case. Removing more of her valve gear not only to prevent more wear but can also prevent potential damage that might happen.
