Are you afraid of the dark
The tale of the pinball wizard
The Tale of The Crimson Clown
Both
**sees thumbnail** I'm so glad Vigo the Carpathian found work after "Ghostbusters II."
I know this is subjective, but can we kind of agree Are You Afraid of the Dark was a bit more scary than Goosebumps?
Totally
Goosebumps sucked compared to this.
Definitely
Absolutely. However, The Haunting Hour absolutely tops both.
I think both are scary in their own way. However, there is no denying that After Dark is scary since it is the first I see when I was a kid.
Tale of dream girl inspired sixth sense. I, personally, liked the pinball one, but we all have to agree that dead man’s float was the best.
And an episode of buffy
Really surprised "tale of the scary soup" didn't make it.
Rumor has it that Wes craven was looking for a new lead actress for a revolutionary Meta horror movie he was working on.
Drew Barrymore turned down the leading role, wanting a more minor role. so Wes turned on the TV one night and saw the scary soup episode and Neve Campbell...the rest is history.
I don't remember that one, what season is it
It's called the Tale of the Dangerous Soup, and it definitely should have been on here over the Twisted Claw
It’s called the tale of the dangerous soup
I can't help but feel that Tale of the Loney Ghost was also a sad one. In the end, the maid turned out to be the girl's mother and joined her daughter in the afterlife without hesitation (which I think is sweet).
Some of the worst acting skills I’ve ever seen were in that cousin who was the bully
I agree but I think the tale of apartment of 214 is just as sad
@@DarkFr3ak101 please tell
@@DarkFr3ak101I don't remember that one
@@melissagrant4178 the story was about a girl and her mom moving into an apartment and the one next to them is supposed to be vacant however there is a lonely sweet elderly lady the girl befriends (who happens to be a ghost.) After the girl misses one of the days to meet her ghostly neighbor for a very important day, the neighbor gets upset.
Jodi and the rest of the former cast should do a podcast where they read scary stories.
There is a podcast on audible
The Tale of the Chameleons with Tia and Tamara was a pretty dark ending. had me shook.
One of the rare instances of a bad ending
@@York22 considering that its Betty Ann who told that story it normal that it ends having that ending
Don't forget The Renegade Virus.
Nothing will ever beat growing up in the 90s watch this and goosebumps on Ytv. I absolutely love this series and goosebumps that i watch them every year as a tradition to me along with some other shows from growing up in the 90s. Currently watching Goosebumps season 2.
Some interesting fact Ryan Gosling also was in Goosebumps' episode "Say Cheese and Die" which it has the same plot as season 3 episode the Tale of the Curious Camera
The 90s!!! What a Time to be Alive!!
90s rocks forever!!! 😎💪🤘
The 90s were so fun during the Halloween season 🦇 🎃👻🏚🌙🌌🧟♂️🧟♀️
The 70s and 80s would like to say a word.
The 90s were a great time to be alive, especially as a kid. Television shows, movies, video games, toys, school, playing outside until dark, and not having a care in the world.
Yeah, it was a great decade to be alive.
I love this series! ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK was my favorite as a kid and still is.. the opening intro song is still scary 🫣
"The Tale of The Super Specs" was probably the scariest episode to me. The idea that we live with unseen shadow people in a parallel dimension was/is an extremely creepy and unsettling idea.
My Favorite Too
Did anyone else notice that Sabrina The Teenage Witch herself, Melissa Joan Hart was in this series? This show deserves more attention
For me, I was like, "Hey, that's Clarissa as Daphne!"
Funny thing that she say mentioned thats the aunts of the boy she is babysitting are not like wicked witches,as if it were a foreshadow of her starring role in Sabrina the teenage witch
@@dnasty312 considering clarissa and AYAOTD were both nickelodeon shows, that's definitely the connection
Her episode was on this list. Right at 9:00 #11 The Tale of the Frozen Ghost.
This was one of my FAVORITE shows of the early-mid 90's! I had to get them all on DVD when they finally released them! So many good memories!
dollmaker was definitely a creepy episode for me, just how long Susan suffered as her body slowly turned into a doll was so creepy and the only explanation we got was it was the dollhouse, i dread to imagine what might have happened had they not escape, Melissa would have watched the transformation of her friend complete and then suffered who knows how long before she became a proper doll
this was my favorite episode from before i could understand what was going on
That was a creepy, scary espiode
This episode should have been called "The Tale of the Dollhouse" instead. It made more sense for that episode.
Fun Fact: The actress who played Melissa in this episode also did the voice of Phoebe from The Magic School Bus
Dr.Vink and Sardo. Two recurring characters on the series. Those episodes were the best
Zar DO! Accent on the do
And then they both appeared in The Tale of Cutter's Treasure two-parter. I remember thinking that was so awesome as a kid.
I’ve always been a fan of the phantom cab episode with Vink
Dude sounds like a nutbag
Which one do we like more "Are You Afraid of the Dark" or "Goosebumps"?
both
Goosebumps
AYAOTD! Couldn’t really grow on Goosebumps.
Are You Afraid of the Dark seems a bit more terrifying & scary than Goosebumps
I'm a Are you afraid fan, but I got a Goosebumps tattoo because there isn't one iconic image 😊
“The Tale of the Bookish Babysitter”, while not the scariest, has this freakish old-man ghost floating down the hallway that always scares the crap out of me when I see it…even as an adult, the image just stuck!
That episode is one of my favorites. I showed it to my gf recently and even she said "Oh God.." when the ghost of the king showed up on screen. The moaning he does is also extremely unsettling. Im 34 and yes I still get the shudders a bit when I see it.
@@wyredaftsquall very much same!!!
Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark are the best 90s TV Shows. Enough said.
i feel like this show has held up incredibly well
Does anyone remember the episode "The Tale of the Dangerous Soup" where the secret ingredient to the soup was fear!? I loved that episode
Neve Campbell!
The Tale of the Prom Queen and the Dream Girl makes me cry every single god damn time 😭
I enjoyed Cutter's Treasure for being both an iconic two parter, but also a rare episode that featured both Dr. Vink and Sardo.
As for terrifying ones? The Tale Of The Nightly Neighbours
The first time I saw that episode, I was shocked that they ended it on a cliffhanger. I never saw them do a two parter before.
The Ghastly Grinner was definitely one of THE Most Terrifying and Creepy episodes I've ever seen from my Childhood! The Ghastly Grinner turning everyone just like him is definitely and totally one of the Stuff of Nightmares! 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
Gilbert Gottfried was a wonderful guest on this show!
God bless all
He's at station 101.9😂
Who
@@theartoonnerdologist411 remember the movie series Problem Child with the late John Ritter?
He is the reason why that episode is my favorite because of his humor. 😂
I think this show hit at the right time for me. I learned I could be scared and still survive. :)
Oh I miss this show. It's part of my childhood. One of my favorite shows back then.
The Tale Of Apartment 214 is underrated
Is that the one with the old lady who was actually dead? If so, I dunno why but when she tells the girl she was dead, god bless that would scare TF outta me as a kid.
@@ericd7361 Yes. That's the one
Ghastly Grinner to this day still freaks me out.
To this day I still love Are You Afraid of the Dark. My most favorite ones are The Bookish Babysitter, Midnight Madness, Night Shift, the Lonely Ghost, the Magician’s Assistant, The Quicksilver, the Fire Ghost, Dead Man’s Float, the Chameleons, and the Silver Sight
What about old man Corcoran?
Nothing beats the 90s. We had the best president getting naughty things done to him under his work desk. Monica, where are thry now 😂
The Tale of the Dream Girl? Now I see where The Sixth Sense came from. Been so long I’ve seen that episode!
Others I liked were The Night Shift, The Midnight Madness, The Ghastly Grinner, The Silver Sight, but the one not listed here? A Door Unlocked!
The night shift episode truly is one of the scariest!
Growing up in the 90s was the best becaise of great shows like this.
The Grinner was all kinds of freaky, but Dead Man's Float will always be the best for all the reasons listed here. Kids nowadays won't get to experience these tales the same way we did ages ago, and that's a shame.
Liking at it now as an adult The Tale of the Dead Man's Float I still think looks extreme for a kids horror show but I do think it has stood the test of time and it did scare the crap out of me as a kid.
One episode that always stick with me for some reason is the one where the girl would go visit the old lady and then she found out later that she was a ghost. Idk why but it’s personally one of my favorites.
"The Tale of Apartment 214" good episode, old lady reminds me of my grandma.
my most memorable episode is the tale of the hungry hounds. i don't know what it is but i was hooked on the show from that episode, and i don't even like horror!
Pinball episode was awesome! Combined the idea of being in a video game, and a mall, all by yourself. 2 of the coolest things you could think of when you were a kid :)
“Dead Man’s Float” is the only episode I still vividly remember, due to how much it freaked me out as a kid. For years, I had an irrational fear that some invisible force was going to pull me under the water while swimming.
I remember these episodes and more. I feel like I was eternally young when watching this show. Some episodes that had them tales that was in a cold place of the world felt like you could watch those during the winter, some of the scariest and classic ones for Halloween, I felt like each story's theme was perfect for a certain time out of the year.
THE DREAM GIRL is in a class of its own! I recently just watched this episode again as an adult and it gave me goosebumps! It’s almost too good to be an are you afraid of the dark episode, from the acting to the story line and the ending is spectacular ❤❤❤ this will always be my favourite episode
The Tale Of The Whisperer’s Walls is quite underrated and is probably in my Top 5. Not only does the episode have a creepy setting and undertone but when the villain appears in a puddle and his hand reaches out of the puddle as he grins menancingly at the kids is unsettling!
Top 10 Tales from the Crypt/keeper Stories!
The Tale of Cutter's Treasure deserves some recognition.
Quicksilver and the vampire from The Night Shift definitely gave me nightmares.
I also really enjoyed The tale of the vacant lot and The tale of the secret admirer, even though they weren't that scary
Awesome list, such an fantastic show! Tale of the nightly neighbors, tale of the unfinished painting and tale of the jagged sign are also great! In "Tale of the lonely ghost" they was said the girl couldn't speak, not that she was deaf (that was tale of the closet keepers).
"The Curse of the Shadows" miniseries from a few years ago was genuinely scary. I'm a grown-ass man and the themes and imagery in that episode freaked me out.
Glad to see The Tale of the Shiny Red Bicycle on the list, probably the most drama-heavy story. Kind of wish The Tale of the Dark Dragon was on the list.
Millennials had the golden trilogy of children horror shows. Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and So Weird.
Can you do Top 10 or 20 Tales From The Crypt Episodes next?
Haven’t started yet BUT I’ll never forget the episode with the car under the lake or pond. It used to haunt me as a kid
Edit: TALE OF THE PROM QUEEN AHHHHHHH
Dead man's float was always the one that got me as a kid the monster was just awesome looking
Tale of the Night Nurse used to scare the crap out of me as a kid!
The one about the headless horseman was a good one. But my favorite one is the one were the two boys and the store owner gets trapped in the dark dimension by the evil sorcerer.
As soon as I saw this, I had flashbacks of being genuinely horrified of the pool episode when I was a kid.
Ryan Gosling and the Late Great Gilbert Gottfried in the same episode to start off the countdown?!
Brilliant
funny thing Ryan Gosling was also in Goosebumps episode "Say Chhese and Die" which ha sthe same plot as the Tale of the Curious Camera
One episode that nobody ever talks about? The Tale of the Fire Ghost. I've only seen the episode twice - once as a kid, where I was so terrified I shut it off, and once as an adult when I rewatched the whole series awhile back. It was about a ghost that haunted a fire station. The episode has a scene where a ghost is engulfed in flames, which was the part that made me shut it off.
The Tale of a dream girl so well done and very sad
I remember some often underrated ones. Theres the one with the beauty shop owner who turns girls into dogs to use in magic spells. There's the one where a girl os stalked by a guy who died in an explosion and is all burnt up (he had a crush on the girl's mom and thinks the daughter is her). The ome woth the pool monster
❤❤❤❤ my Fav was the Prom Queen. Thanks fir Sharing.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
(shudders in 90's nostalgic terror) List is spot-on. That pool episode made me TERRIFIED to go swimming for YEARS
We all knew #1. That's the one episode of this show I could never forget. Scared my sister and I as kids 😂
5 and 4 were super scary but dead man’s float made my skin crawl when I was in pools.
My favourite will always be “The Tale of the Water Demons.” I’m sad it didn’t crack the top 20
Right? Even though a small clip of it was shown at the start.
All of these episodes are fantastic, I'd have to add The Tale of the Dangerous Soup, The Tale of the Phantom Cab, The Tale of Apartment 214, The Tale of the Captured Souls and the Tale of the Closet Keepers
The Tale of the Super Spec was always terrifying to me!
"Tale of the Dream Girl" was indeed heart-breaking with the lead guy revealed to be the mystery girl's deceased boyfriend. The parting time between him and his kid sister was also a tear-jerker when it was time for him to be reunited with his beloved. I do wonder if M. Knight Shalaman ever took inspiration from this for his 1999 hit film "The Sixth Sense" as it has the very same element?
I love this show so much! Jake & the Leprechaun was one of my favorites!
Mine too.
This show started when I was 13, but the episode that always scared me was The Tale of the Super Specs
My younger sister and I watched this show when we were kids in the 90's. It was a good counterpart to Goosebumps, which we also watched.
So many creepy episodes that I can’t decide which one is greater than the rest.. amazing show!!
The tale of the midnight ride is also a great halloween special episode as well!
Tale of many faces always gets forgotten. The night nurse was also a really good one.
Oh wow,how ironic I legit just started watching the series again..don't remember much from when I was a kid 😅🍻🍺
one of my favorite series growing up.
laughing the dark probably my fave episode
great list. can you do a top 20 of r.l. steins the haunting hour?
The Dead Man's Float creature definitely was the scariest villain on the show.
The Tale of the Dollmaker gave me nightmares as a child for years... Actually still gives me nightmares sometimes 😮 glad it was nice and high in the list
Tale of the Quicksilver is the one episode I always remembered
I fucking loved this show as a kid.
Tale of the Water Demons and Tale of the Bookish Babysitter are the two that scared the pants off of me as a kid!
Captain Cutter screaming at the end. It scared me so bad!
I swear i remember an episode where it had a story that was similar to Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, that had a scarecrow in it.
There is, that was "the tale of the silent servant".
There is also a Goosebumps episode called "Scarecrow Walks at Midnight"
@@celticpoet21 Yeah, ok. so you already know what I'm talking about 😃👍
@@thatgirlfromktown I have to check that one out, I might remember that one too, once I see it...
@BatmanPops It was one of my favorite Goosebumps episodes. I am 42 now and have 3 daughters, and they all have grown up loving horror movies and shows like I do. I bought a few DVD sets of "Are You Afraid of the Dark," and they got played often when my daughters had sleepovers. I'm sure you don't care about all that, but I'm a talker, sorry...lol 😂
I just found this series. Never saw these before.
My favorites:
"...The Dollmaker"
& "...The Dangerous Soup".
My teacher showed us this on rainy days
My favorite one was the secret admirer and the prom one 😭
My favorite episode is The Prom Queen. I'm glad it made this list. It's not the scariest compared to other episodes but I like the ending of it.
I'm surprised the Tale of the Bookish Babysitter didn't make this list. The ghost of the king floating down the hallway, moaning, gave me nightmares!
How is “The Tale of the Badge” not on this list…? Absolutely terrifying
One of my top 5 favorites. That slimy ass nose, he creeped me out 😂✌️
I can't remember the name of the episode but I remember it had a private school where the students were caring for the eggs of weird lizard-like creatures that ran the school. I recall the lizard creatures being sensitive to loud music or something of that nature. There was another episode I enjoyed where a girl happens upon a tent with an esoteric individual who has her look into a mirror which causes her face to become covered in something resembling horrific burns? I remember it being really eerie and surreal. One episode I *do* remember the name of was the Tale of the Chameleon. Tia and Tamara Mowry were in it and it featured a ordinary-looking lizard where if it bit you twice and then you touched water, you swapped places with it. I remember the whole "Bite you once. Bite you twice. A little water, pay the price" line.
The one with the woman in the tent is Tale of the Vacant Lot
How about the Phone Police? The one with the beauty shop owner who turned girls into dogs and used them for a spell? The 13th floor with those creepy Slenderman-esque robots and the reveal the sister is actually a robot herself? Ughhhh
That first one I believe was called The Tale Of The Hatching.
Yup!@@RajaReign78
Yasssssss, this is quality😌
This show was diverse and it wasn't pushing any agendas besides spooky kids stories. My favorite episodes are the beauty/werewolf drops that make the guy beautiful and then ugly when they were off and the episode about the computer virus that comes to life.
Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark were the best tv shows! Another similar one was The Haunting Hour series by R.L. Stine. I hope that Mojo can do a count down of that. It had major stars like Dylan Minnette, Ariel Winter, Joey King, Debbie Ryan, Bailee Madison, Bobby Coleman ect.
This was a awesome show
Aww Mike, what a sweet mama's boy. Love it.
I loved Are you Afraid of the Dark, my sister was into Goosebumps so it was a back and forth on which was better.
My favorite episode is, of course, the only one not available on steaming: The Tale of C-7.
Man I loved this show Saturday night snick was the best part of my week
Even as a adult now my favorite episode will always be The Tale of the Dream Girl
I often think about this show. I don't really remember a lot of the episodes, but I remember they were always pretty well done. I wonder if it'd be worth it to watch it again.
Another show that was pretty good on the air around the same time was Land of the Lost which I guess was a remake of the 1970s series of the same name.
Where in the name of Doug Funnie is the freaking Tale of the Bookish Babysitter????
Folks give Gosling a shout out, but are silent for Tatyana Ali. Go figure.
Edit: Game Sabrina one as well . . . SMH
great video
