Two Saturday morning videos in a row! Thank you. What a treat to wake up to. Last year I planted two blueberry bushes in containers and although they were small to start, I have high hopes for greater yields this summer. Your videos always make the process clear and they are great reminders of the things I need to put on my gardening TO-DO list.

Watching with two of my boys today (3 and 4.5), I'm asked first thing, "Where's Benjamin?" They had gone off to play when he made his appearance so I called them over to watch him. They get really excited to see him helping his mama like they help theirs and then start telling me their garden plans for this year. Thank you, thank you, thank you all for your hard work. It inspires so many including the next generation of gardeners.

Check your acidity levels- strawberry and blueberries may have different needs!
Also sterilisation of seed trays is important to prevent pathogen transfer, and failed seedlings.
      I love your enthusiasm!

The way you explained and demonstrated the pruning was the best and most accessible I have seen. You described it in a way that matches how a regular person would look at and describe the branches.

I planted blueberry bushes in containers last year because of the critters that were eating them , the deers groundhogs and squirrels, I had tried for years to grow the in the ground .This past summer I had a wonderful yield so I plan on planting more in containers. By the way it is a treat seeing your vide this morning , does this mean we’ll get to see you on Saturday again , lol , my coffee taste better when I have a video of yours to watch and learn from , thank you ❤️🪴🌻🌸

Laura it is such a joy to see you working with Benjamin in these videos. I love how you just let him do his thing and you simply support him. I can’t wait to watch when Samantha Grace gets to join the mix!! 😂😬😂. When I saw you were planting lavender, I wanted to post. Could you consider an episode about lavender? When we had our house in Texas (planted in the ground) and Oklahoma (planted in containers), well, let’s just say success is not even in the mix when considering the proper word choice. Could you give tips for both please. We have moved to Ohio and I do not have any outdoor space this year so can lavender inside? Because of you I’m researching grow-lights so I can have a small herb garden in my kitchen area. I feel confident with some creativity, and shelves, I can have a few of the herbs I use the most when cooking. Thank you! Your show is one of the highlights of my day!

ahhh, yes, pruning mine is on my list for this week.. great instructions and explanation 🙂 i only have 2 bushes; it's risky here in my warm climate (zone 10b) but i have had good luck with them... last year was phenomenal, i think because we had a cooler winter... i get enough for me and some to freeze usually, plus i share them with Herr Grossbeak (one of my favorite wild birds, he visits me especially during blueberry season, lol)... there is nothing more satisfying than picking fruit from your own garden (well yeah, veggies, flowers, etc, too, ha)... maybe i'm going about it wrong, but i find pruning just satisfying and somewhat relaxing, lol... no stress for me; i enjoy it - i feel like i'm helping my plants do their best to give us both what we want! 🙂love seeing Benjamin learning 'at the knee' and helping you plant (did he wash most of those seeds out with the hose?? lol) ... and boys and sticks, lol... 🙂 ❤ thanks for the video!! 🙂 ❤

I have always looked forward to pruning and shaping season every year. Gives an enormous feeling of accomplishment. I read the most amazing book many years ago called... The Royal Horticultural Society, Pruning and training by Christopher Bickell and David Joyce. I found it to be the most valuable book I have ever read besides of course The King James Version of the Holy Bible scriptures. Fortunately I have obeyed the directive of Jesus the Christ to be born again of water and of the spirit, so the Holy Bible is an open and understandable book to me x🧡💛🧡😁🇦🇺

Your hair looks amazing in that light when you were pruning giving off major summer vibes! My grandparents had blueberries lined up along their fence and it was a beautiful lush green hillly front yard I loved it we’d roll down the hill, picking blueberries for snacking or filling up yogurt containers for my grandma and grandpa(they always had yogurt containers for storing food always recycling 👍)☺️ I’ve always wanted blueberry bushes like that for my kiddos. And knowing I can pop them in some pots is hopeful for the coming season I’ll keep my eye out for some more berries bushes! We’ve had about 5 years experience with outdoor gardening but were a traveling family we move because of work every few years and only have done raised beds, a few front yard annuals and a few shrubs and bulbs. So investing in perennials hasn’t been something I’ve considered because it’s not a permanent home and we wouldn’t be there to reap the benefits. But recently I’ve learned planting perennials only make the world prettier so we’ll be planting away this new house even though we won’t be here permanently to enjoy everything we plant but maybe the next family that moves in will find joy in the blooms like we do 🤞❤️🥰

Snipping “suckers”, competing branches, and taking a little “off the top”!?! I so appreciate you and all the things you think to share with us. I have always been interested in gardening, but never knew what I was doing. So I consistently was getting inconsistent results with my projects. Many beekeepers from Ontario will transport bee hives to New Brunswick to do pollination for the season. As many people know pollination can boost fruit yields up to 4 times so the blueberry farmers feel it’s worth the cost.

Our property came with 6 high bush blueberries - two different varieties. I feel validated with your video! I pruned mine a couple days ago - I just felt it was time. We think ours haven’t been tended to for 3 years, possibly quite a bit longer. Last year, our first, we just put some berry tone on the soil and hoped for the best. They grew to just shy of 7’ tall and we had so many berries!! I knew they had to be pruned this year or else we’d have no chance of being able to pick the new growth. It was really tough pruning off some of the berry buds! I was so worried I was going to prune them wrong, but 1 bush in I kept hearing your voice telling me “just try it and see what happens, there’s no rules.” Thank you for your words of encouragement and letting us know we really can’t make catastrophic mistakes.

This was such good information about blueberries! I got 2 top hat seedlings by mail 2 weeks ago. They were doing excellent at first but the instructions said to keep them in the shade. They are now having browning leaves and some leaves died and dropped off. I see yours are in full sun so think I'll do that too. I hope they survive and grow so I have an opportunity to prune next year. If you have fig trees it'd be great to have a pruning lesson on those too not to mention citrus trees. Thanks Laura.

Thank you for your tips. They are very helpful. I'm in Florida zone 9b and had a blueberry bush in a large pot for many years then it started to get old and then died. After some research to see what I did wrong I found they don't live long in pots. I did everything right. Repotted, fertilized and kept it bug free. It was heart beating when it passed but I learned a ton. This year I have 2 that will be planted in the ground. I will be taking cuttings to make more. Hoping for 20+ plants someday🥰

Seeing you prune blueberries was super helpful and informative. I have a couple of young blueberries I'm going to ge pruning up once the snow melts, as well as 5 acres of 10-15 year old blueberries that have been badly neglected for a while. Looking forward to seeing how the herb seeds turn out, as well as how the garden shed looks when completed

Great info on the blueberry pruning. It's only my second year growing them and I was inclined to just leave them alone. But now I have some great information on what to look for in pruning them. Thanks!

I made my first valerian tincture this year. It's been a very welcomed gift.
One valerian plant grows very big. I had one plant and started two more plants from seed this year. You started a lot of valerian :D ! It smells incredible when in bloom though so you will enjoy it a lot.

Oooh! So happy to see videos posted today! I made a quick run to a hardware store today, and I saw beautiful Lenten Roses! Okay. I didn’t just see them. I went home with one.☺️
I started pruning, but rain stopped that.

This is the kind of video I needed today, my blueberry plants need work done around them and to be fertilized/ fix the acidity. I struggle with this, I got my 1st blueberry last season and I’ve had my plant for almost 2 years and it has not grown much either. I have a new variety that I hope does well in my zone 9. Perfect timing for this video, I’m enjoying these Saturday videos 💜

Perfect timing...and what a treat - video on Saturday! I am getting ready to prune my iceberg rose bushes and watching and listening to you today I am now confident to do the job correctly (even if I still get squeamish). In a few weeks the bush will be sending out beautiful white buds again!

I'm in the sourthern hemisphere, so the Northern Highbush grows best in the south, and the Southern Highbush grows best in the north. Rabbit Eye varieties are the recommended ones for my area by my favorite garden centre, so I have a couple of them which are currently fruiting. Will have to look back on this video when it gets into winter.

I want some blueberry bushes! I live in berry country. There are farms all over the place and we usually ride up the street to our Great Grandma's house to raid her bushes. I'm hoping to put some of my own in the yard this year. Thanks for the pruning tips. Very helpful!

I'm excited to see your herb seeds grow and get planted out. I'm starting a bunch this year and plan to deck my flower beds with herbs throughout. The German Thyme is one I'm starting too and the site said they can be harder to grow so I'm happy we'll be on the same journey.
