It’s true
Lockstin & Gnoggin So....you're Bi-Tuber?
Maybe some of these Pokémon have learned the attacks from TMs? For example, almost every single Pokémon can learn Giga Impact with a TM.
Bide makes perfect sense for Wobuffet. Its whole gimmick is moves that use the opponents attacks against them.
Tbh some are correct like Onix learning wrap and some moves are probably from move tutor moves and some moves are possibly TM moves. Maybe that’s why it seems weird. Although some are just unrealistic.
Umm. Can Snakes tackle? Have you seen them lunge at prey? They can fling themselves; in some cases; up to 10 feet from ground level.
Yeah, I'd say a snake can tackle.
Bulbasaur could learn dig around the time that episode came out. It's via tm I'll admit but i digress
Geodude is a fire type now
Let's be honest: if you could, you ALL would be teaching your Lotads psybeam.
6:50 thats Ice Beam
Cosmog didnt use supersonic, it uses screech
Clearly the anime has a version exclusive TM for tackle
Tm69 tackle lol
That is given to everyone when they get their first pokemon
It’s just the basic attack like the original Pokémon mystery dungeon games. Not a specific move but an attack anyone could use without training

Great video! Awesome job!
One nitpick... In the episode where Bulbasaur uses Dig, it is specifically mentioned that Dig is not a move Bulbasaur should be able to learn, but Oak points out that some Pokemon, in extreme situations, have been able to use moves they normally could not. In this case, Bulbasaur was about to be crushed to death, but it buried itself under ground to avoid it.
Ok
So next time I want my pokémon to learn dig, I should just attempt to crush it to death? Noted.
@@Felixr2 I don't think you can do that in the games

Let that sink in for a minute and ask yourself "how in God's name does Togekiss PUNCH ANYTHING!!?!!!!?!!!"

In the adventures manga he can read a Pokemon's thoughts and memories, as well as heal them. It does take some time, but it basically means free healing between battles. This is explained though, as every generation a child of Viridian Forest will be born with these powers. Giovanni and Yellow also have them. But Lance sure does love to break the rules.

And to be fair, the 'dex entry does say that the tail keeps watch and will BITE at those that get to close... Yet can't learn Bite in-game...???
Why was the anime so obsessed with... tackle? What a weird move to be fixated on.
Maybe it's because, like he said, anything with a body should physically be able to "tackle." But still a weird to glorify the (arguably) worst attack in the series

Also on a side note, have you tried promoting your videos on the r/pokemon subreddit? I don't think I ever saw a video of yours there,it might be a way to help fuel the growth of your channel ^^
Lockstin & Gnoggin Really good news. I've enjoyed this channel ever since I started watching the Pokemon reboot theory and I watched some older videos as well. Would be a massive shame to see you go.
Lockstin & Gnoggin God Bless!
Lockstin & Gnoggin ahhh yeah!!!!!!!!
I'm assuming this came out before Ash's Rowlett learned seed bomb, that would've been an interesting one to cover since they even mention that it normally can't learn it
I will always remember that stupid mistake in the first season of the anime:
There's an Officer Jenny with a Growlithe outside of a stadium, and what she says is pretty hilarious: "Arcanine, use Flamethrower!"
Also, the amount of moves a pokemon can learn in the anime is pretty wild. Like, Ash's Snorlax can use 7 or 8 moves
Smasher Bro well. I mean one kid yelled out an absurd of moves for his Alakazam to use. Guess the game doesn't want people to have it be like some RPG game...ironic
Headcanon: She's the only one left who hasn't evolved her Growlithe, so she just calls it Arcanine in hopes that it will someday and nobody will notice.
To be fair, pokemon only being able to know four moves was never brought up as a rule in the anime until much later, and presumably was not intended to be a rule until then. And to this day they never have explained the process or even specifically referenced pokemon only being able to know four moves at a time (the closest I can recall is a character seeing a pokemon use three moves in a battle and believing there must be a fourth being held back for a surprise), instead a pokemon that has four moves and learns a new one will simply stop using one of the older moves and it will never be commented on (the biggest example being Pikachu ceasing to use Volt Tackle in the Black and White series).
My headcanon is that this particular Officer Jenny was just a smart-Alec and nicknamed her Growlithe "Arcanine." Also, because she couldn't find any Fire Stones. Besides, who here **HASN'T** nicknamed their Pokémon with the name of another Pokémon?
First of all Officer Jenny is not the brightest bulb in the box and i dont really know whats up with snorlax
Forgot that Caterpie used Counter.
3:33 Well Lance is a cheater in the games too. So I can understand why Lance’s dragonite in the anime knows a move it shouldn’t.
just wantexd to mention this too, only one that makes sense having weird moves:P
The anime actually does stick to the 4 move limit, it's only the original series that didn't.
They should remove that limit and make a pokemon access all moves it learns, makes battles more interesting and you dont have to use a pp restoring elixer to still use your pokemon
@@youtubestudiosucks978smeargle stonks go really up
The Ninetales psychic one was probably meant to be extrasensory since vulpix learns that by level up
extrasensory didn't exist then
And it's nothing at all like psychic. Like in any way imaginable, except they're both special psychic type moves. There is no way to make someone float with extrasensory.
Luuk van de Pasch False.
Maybe he used a tm (?)
@@Felixr2
In the games the only move that actually lifts a Pokemon is Telekinesis, even though it does no damage.
Psychic is just the user doing a mebtal strain on the target, the anime got that wrong.
also he forgot the whole
jenny: arcanine use flametrower!
growlithe: uhm... okay?
me: jenny is drunk again!
Why does nobody ever think of nicknames in these situations? That Growlithe could easily be called Arcanine, just to mess with the people.
@@r4nd0mguy99 because like, only two people in the anime gave their Pokèmon nicknames.
Two words: *THUNDER ARMOR.*
Ash and Dawn actually developed that a bit with grass and ice armor, too bad they just forget about it after spending the time training.
It was still all kinds of wrong.
Billy Don Powell Actually, it was Swallowed Energy Ball, not Grass Armor. Ice Armor was still Ice Armor, though.
You guys will never get over it
Jake Berango Hey man, don't lie, Thunder Armor was cool as heck, regardless of how nonsensical it is.
Onix does have a move where it wraps around things, but its called "Bind"
At least “Bulbasaur the Ambassador “ explained why Ash’s Bulbasaur learned Dig.
Ok
I could have sworn most of these weren't errors. You're telling me that the bell, windchime and music cricket pokemon can't learn sing?
I mean, yeah, they can make music. But by playing an instrument, NOT by singing. So they can't learn sing. It... actually makes a lot of sense.
@@Felixr2 You tell those musically talented pokemon who can vocalize can't sing?

Yep
Ok that lotad has to be level 100 for it to know hydropump

False, Lotad does NOT learn hydro pump. The last move it learns is energy ball, and that's at lvl 36.
Majik Zac yeah you don't get the point of the entire video do you...
@@Majikthejuggalo can't it learn it from a move tutor I thought?
can we count "thunder armor" as a mistake or should that get it's own episode?
dejEtack please tell me what abilitys swellow have and explain what they do please.
It's an overdramatization of the ability Guts, which Swellow gets.
I assume your referring to Guts and it's bonus attack with a status effect. Swellow wasn't paralyzed in that scene, plus, it doesn't explain the literal golden armor. it also doesn't explain why Pikachu got the armor too.
That wasn't an official move, it was just a technique that Ash came up with.
I guess Ash's Swellow has Motor Drive instead...
I think that tackle was used often early on in the anime because it was such a basic and familiar attack.
And what about the Scizor who wanted to use False Swipes as a finishing move?
Now that's just cruel.
Clearly it is the 2nd wisest Pokémon in all of Pokémon media. The first is just any magikarp that choose not to evolve.
Could be worse.... Elite 4 champion battle, you're out of revives, and ethers, only Pokemon left is Scizor with false swipe
I beat the Alola Elite Four with a Duocles that had Flase Swipe. Of course, that wasn't its only move.
Finish it off with false swipe!
More importantly: there's an episode of Pokemon named after They Might Be Giants, one of the greatest and under appreciated bands of all time.
Ninetails can learn Psyshock and Extrasensory, but not psychic. That is weird.
That episode was in Gen 2 though.
cant even learn Shadow Ball either...
RokuroCarisu okay: they STILL cannot learn Psychic, despite now being able to learn comparable moves.
Except Psyshock and Extrasensory are not really all that comparable to Psychic in any way besides their typing...
Luuk van de Pasch how do you mean?
6:50 That looks like ice beam, not blizzard.
Thank you
I swear half of these are moves the Pokemon does learn. No wonder they get it wrong, even the players can't keep it straight.
But... does this mean that Arbok DOESN'T evolve into Seviper?
Yes
They don't even look remotely alike, how the hell did they mess that up so badly? I still can't comprehend it.
Well yes it does but everything will eventually evolve into magikarp
No, but Suicune does.
The Four Star Gamer no suicune evolves into glaceon at lvl 50 or dunsparce with a dunse tail but it ok I sometimes get these confuse

So apperantly a double tackle can generate enough force to propel two 15 year olds (Dont ask me) and a Meowth into the sky and beyond the human sight range.

And has 3 Dragonites on Gold :p
Ghetsis' Hydreigon is Illegal too.. : (
Also Falkner's Pidgeotto
This is a good video covering everything.
I'd say as we Pokefans know, the games are made literal for balance reasons. Everything is concrete. And the Anime shows there are rare instances things out of the normal can occur. Nothing weird here!
Whitefright I just wish more people would understand that factor about the games. Sure, the anime isn’t the greatest, but the games don’t make much sense either.
True
Ninetales does have psychic powers.. the games got that bit wrong I'd say.
Kai Cyreus Wrong, Ninetales has ghost powers, not psychic
Bananaforscale hey but psychics are also kinds of ghosts
Zubaish Not exactly, there is thematical difference
Ninetales can learn a bunch of Psychic-type moves like Extrasensory & Psyshock, but not actually Psychic. That's kinda weird, but what can ya do?
Kai Cyreus I like the idea of Ninetales using Psychic. :3
Me during 80% of this video: "Wait...it CAN'T learn that?!"
Bulbasaur! Use Omnislash!
Rukalin bulbasaur starts to charge his limit gauge
The only funny move thing is when Team Rocket makes a Charizard use Dig.
Actually, Charizard can legally use Dig.
I think this has taught me more counterintuitive inabilities to learn certain attacks that some pokémon display than anything else.
I mean, can you blame anyone for forgetting that girafarig can't use bite? Why would someone give a pokémon a mouth full of nasty teeth at the tip of its tail, then not give it bite? Pikachu not learning tackle is weird too. I mean, it can use volt tackle just fine, so you'd think using volt tackle minus the volts would be no problem. But apparently not.
Also, that kricketune probably did have a watermelon. Don't you actually get the bullet seed TM in the gen. 3 games from a guy eating watermelon?
In the Gen 5 anime Ash told Oshawott to use a move called Razor sword but later on he stared saying the correct name which is Razor shell 🤔🙂
Trainer Uchū* Yeah in that episode he commanded Oshawott to use Razor Shell, but accidentally said Shell Blade, the Japanese name. Dubbing error lol
Michael White Cool I didn't know that 😁
Trainer Uchū* Probably a translation mistake
Trainer Uchū* *shell
well like you said it's an anime anything can happen in anime, just like anything can happen in cartoons as well this is why I stopped questioning logic in both cartoons and anime cause you know they won't make any sense anyway
I distinctly remember an episode where Ash's Pikachu rode on the back of his Pidgeot and used thunder shock and gave both Pokémon the powers of Jesus in battle. Can someone please tell me what episode that was?
Are you sure you don't mean Swellow?
If you mean Swellow, that would be "Thunder Armor" in AG100, "Solid as a Solrock"
I get all bird Pokémon easily confused sometimes. Thanks for that. I wasn't so much concerned as to which bird Pokémon it was as to the fact that it gained the powers of Jesus in battle. It was just weird.
Ah yes the famous power of Jesus of having a mouse electrocuting him then runing into rock
Legend has it that the writers delve deep within the depth of their asses to pull out that strategy for Ash to use.
batmanfanforever08 Swellow. Not Pidgeot.
There are no reasons most of these Pokemon cannot learn the moves they are seen using in the pokemon anime.
Oh. Gnoggin pointed that out already...
"And maybe if you really liked it,"
*immediately gets an ad*
That happened to me as soon as i read this
I was expecting anime moves that were carried out wrong- like using Agility to break through something instead of to increase your speed- but this absolutely works too aha
Doukz or using agility to make speed clones instead of after images like suggested in the game.
My name is Ash Ketchum, and I own the fastest Pikachu alive.
exactly
Like, I can get behind the idea of using moves in the anime in move/fashion shows to make everything glorified and pretty, but it gets a little questionable once you get to a battle and a caterpie completely immobilizes someone with string shot.
I mean, it makes sense in the anime, but still aha
My explanations for some of the moves. Umbreon can learn quick attack which might have been mistaken for agility which the two were compared to in the video. Parasect using sleep powder may have been a simple explanation for the move spore. Jirachi is the wish pokémon so it can do whatever it wants. Swanna may have been using icebeam instead of blizzard. Unknowns are mysterious pokémon so who knows, also it was in a dream where they used the move. Piplup instead of watergun might have been using hydropump or waterpulse. When lotad used hydropump it could have been using watergun or waterpulse to add to the power of the big hydropump. Litten might have been using scratch or fury swipes [which it learns at lv29 while it evolves at lv17] instead of slash.
Onix learns bind, not wrap, but it IS the same thing basically.
I guess the anime just likes to do whatever the heck it wants and just likes to ignore the rules of the games.
Isaiah Rivers pretty much.
There is something to be said for the reasoning that logically anything with a body should be able to tackle something. The anime overall stays pretty true to the games when it comes to moves, as Lockstin noted, and some of their deviations actually make a fair amount of sense.
Isaiah Rivers Neither makes much sense to begin with.
Oh boy, another Pokemon anime mistake video...only scratching the surface with a small plastic spoon there, Lockstin. There are a lot...
Yeah, like the time a Jynx used Ice Beam........................with its fist.
Or like that one time Lapras had telepathy...& spoke with it's mind....yeah, ok...
Alek Harbison telepaphy seems to be the prefer way that pokemon speak to humans, probably much easier as well. All pokemon at least has the intelligence of your everyday human.
Well it just seemed a bit random to me that a Lapras of all things started doing it like it was a psychic type.
Alek Harbison it's not that weird, fire types, dark types, heck even steel and fighting types do that. It seems that whenever pokemon wants to talk to a human directly, they use telepathy, way less risk of things getting lost in translation. Even Ryhorn can do it if it wanted to. Though they probably have extreme short term memory loss as opposed to them being mistaken as dumb.
6:05 lots of non bug type pokemon can learn X-Scissor. Edit: just because something isnt a water type doesnt mean it cant learn water type moves lockstin
the biggest mistake: ASH DOESNT AGE
I think that Onix was supposed to be using _Bind,_ but someone confused it with _Wrap_ accidentally. I also believe the same situation occured with Parasect, with the voice actor confusing _Spore_ with _Sleep Powder._ Not quite sure _how_ those mistakes were made, but that's the only explanation I can come up with. Take it however you want.
I love jelly filled donuts

On the "titters" thing, at that point, the Pokémon Company had been handling the dubbing, having taken over from 4Kids.

1:43 keep in mind that there are 2 species named Nidoran. Ralph's is a Nidoran♂, which cannot learn Fury Swipes. However, Nidoran♀ can
The reason why a Ninetails uses psychic might be because its a reference to the Kitsune from japanese myth.
Da myth is dat iz tail is cursed
The episode did say that Ninetails can gain psych powers if they live long enough.
But it can learn some Psychic type moves right?
@@Dexuz in gen 2, only rest via TM44 and hypnosis as an egg move.
One thing that's always confused me is how Double Team is depicted as similar to the Shadow Clone Jutsu when all it does is raise evasion. Sure, the pokemon is harder to hit, but you see multiple instances where the user uses their "clones" to launch attacks. Kinda confusing.
Well its japanese name is kagebunshin so i think OLM just wanted to make naruto reference
In the anime a trainer could tell a smoochem to use freaking flamethrower and it probably would :/
That'd be great,no more of Shroomish hiding in fear of bug types

Excellent video, and I’m glad you pointed out the fact that literal gameplay mechanics/game balance stuff wouldn’t really make sense in an anime. Sure, the anime isn’t the greatest, but the games do things for gameplay and balance reasons, not for a show. I also like the fact that in the anime, the towns and cities are actual towns and cities and not just like 10 buildings, which is also a gameplay thing.
This is also why I loved the Generations miniseries. It was the perfect blend of both.
This video is basically "How many times can we say tackle before it sounds weird?"
3
I was waiting for the bulbasaur whirlwind part.... had to wait till near the end
You know Team Rocket would be unstoppable if the frog didnt come up with a way to beat the counter/mirror coat logic of the anime. Man what I wouldn't give for anime logic mirror coat and counter in the games.
Invid of INP Froakie
On the topic on if a snake can tackle, yes, they can, and they do!
Usually, it's in the form of a bluff strike, when they appear as if they're going to bite, but they don't. Instead, they lunge at you, either missing or actually hitting you with their nose or head. It's surprisingly forceful when they do hit you, especially larger snakes. I've gotten a few bruises from some grumpy boas, and my Hognose managed to give me a little cut with her nose once. It's an intimidation of threat attempt, they're trying to scare away what they feel endangered by.
They can also throw their bodies at you, sometimes, but that's less common, and more the behavior of a very angry or scared snake. Or of a Hognose who thinks she can fly...
Snakes are surprisingly 'jumpy' for a creature who has no limbs.
I mean, almost all of those makes me rather fault the games for not giving those Pokemon these moves than he show for not getting it right
I Remember Richie Named His Pikachu Sparky,But I Can’t Remember,Did he Name His Charmander Zippo After The Lighters?
3:17 in that instance, they explicitly commented about this and came to the conclusion that it was because his life was in danger
A lot of these are lore based or common sense anime logic.
Just saying!! And I mean, it's not like People haven't dreamt up moves for Pokemon to use even though the games say they can't learn them.
I don't think that any of these Pokemon learned these attacks. I think it's just like a command like "go get that bowl!". Meaning that the command does less damage than the attack version.
Ash's Bulbasaur using Dig was actually noted as an oddity in the episode itself.
Team rocket being able to teach wobuffet bide, that mean they are very good trainer.(since there is no other trainer that can do that)
Wobuffet's whole deal is enduring attacks and retaliating, what I find strange is that Wobuffet doesn't learn Bide in the games, it should.
I think James should get a new magikarp and just teach it Draco meteor and three fire move. You know what it magikarp should just be a event Pokémon
I think Wobbuffet was attempting destiny bond, they just set up bide as a joke for Jessie.
When it comes to things like "They have claws so they should be able to use Scratch!" or "They have teeth so why can't they use Bite?" It's not that they can't "scratch" or "bite" with their claws and teeth, it's just that the moves "Scratch" and "Bite" are specific techniques, infused with type power, that they don't know how to use.
@5:36 Look at how hard Regigigas hulk smashes Regice, Steel and Rock
Also... *Tackle*
Infinite Flaws!!
2:15 in an earlier episode, Brock's Vulpix used that move in the dub. In the Japanese version of said earlier episode, Brock's Vulpix used Quick Attack, a move both Vulpix and Cyndaquil can learn
4 things to note: changed movesets between regions, "baby moves" (moves an evolution cant learn but are legal because it can be a move left over from before evolving), event pokemon with special or otherwise illegal moves, and egg moves. (for the uninitiated, an egg move is a move that the pokemon adopts from a parent, be it normally unobtainable, or just a high level move obtained early in some cases). Some of these validate the real mistakes that arnt from pure translation errors.
The other thing to note is sometimes the move in question is something different than what it appears, mainly in instances where the pokemon is acting independently. scratch, slash, and cut could all be animated the same way on a single pokemon, and the only way to know the difference without the trainer shouting orders would be to know the pokemon's legal move set.
Taking all of that into consideration, these are all still mistakes.
We know Litten used Slash because it says so in the captions and the captions usually list the moves being used, but sometimes, the moves aren't named.
Wooow daz a long comment
Gulpin can’t learn a water move
Me: A FOOLISH MISCALCULATION!
Grass Snakes don't have venom and they don't bite just in general, so they will tackle you with their muzzle when scared.
Skuntank doesn't have to look like a bug to use X-Scissors.
6:51 not Ice Beam huh
Dw the anime isn't consistent with itself anyways.
It's not as if the games makes much sense either. Bellsprout doesn't learn Absorb, but learns Mega and Giga Drain. Many Pokémon learns Mega Horn without bug type either. (Goldeen and Nidoran M also have Peck despite not being birds either...)
Steelix can learns Aqua Tail and Emboar can learns Scald (and many learns Surf despite being weak to Water as well).
You're not required to be a Bug Type Pokémon to learn Megahorn. Every Pokémon that has a horn learns Megahorn. Makes sense to me, even with its Bug typing
Nidoran has a sort of small beak/tooth, but it would've helped better if I actually knew what Nidorans are based on. As for Goldeen, I have no idea aswell...
Anything that has a tail learns Aqua Tail, I guess
Scald is basically a shot of hot water. It's basically a misture of a Water/Fire Type move. Why not add Scald on othet Fire Type Pokémon I have no idea
The Surf thing explains how Pokémon are shaped. Imagine a boat. It would've never floated without its base. Same thing with Pokémon, even with Rhydon, suffering 4x from Water Type moves. However, the fact that Linoone summons a tidal wave inbattle out of nowhere kinda scares me a bit...
Well, explain how Primeape learns Iron Tail then.
UrgotHasCancer Guess you havent seen Aura's Pokémon moves videos XD
Primeape learning Iron Tail is rather a silly thing, but not a mistake. It learns it from Mankey (which makes sense, since it has a tail)
And, yes, I have seen Aura's video, but if there is two videos of that topic in his channel, then no
Yeah Megahorn makes sense, but Lockstin made a comment about X Scissors. Truth is, the move don't really have any reasons to be Bug Type (outside of Balance reasons in gen 2)
As for Iron Tail... Well, kids may watch this comment, so we cannot gives you further details. Sorry.
(The game made that joke first, so I can do it too )
10:41 the direct translation would’ve had Steelix using *Hip-Hop
Sorry
So did you like binge the whole series for the sole purpose of checking every move a pokemon could use in that generation and comparing it to what moves were used in the anime?
No, he pretty much just read each example off of this page and turned it into half of the video. Kind of a lazy way to approach them, really.
bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Anime_move_errors
*+Gloria A.* Oh yeah, because a lot of people are gonna prefer to read the page themselves than have somebody else read it for them./s
Gloria A. What else was he gonna do? Watch over 700 episodes of the show for a 11 minute video?
+megagutsman That's not the point I was making. I meant that he stretched out the video length with a list that he pretty much read verbatim and that he only needed to list a tenth of to make his point across. Plus, this isn't a history page that he read off the site, it's a list. No one is going to that page to find out anything interesting or engaging. After watching this video, most people will not be able to list ten examples and will not have learned anything from what essentially took up half of his video.
+Austin the RedTailedGamer That's not what I am saying, and you know that is a proposition no reasonable person would propose. Of course he should get his examples from the wiki! It would be stupid not to.
Says that every Pokemon with a body can learn tackle and shows a picture of Charizard...
WHEN CHARIZARD CAN'T EVEN LEARN TACKLE
That time Ash's Pikachu learned Reflect in the first comic series. I just really wanted my pikachu to learn reflect after that, ...and also for reflect to be as effective as it was in the comic. lol
Also, the butt bites. .... :3
Trainer: **Throws out Furret against Ash’s Pikachu**
Misty: “I figured he’d use a Ground type like Furret against Pikachu!”
wait she said that !?
