Anime Boys' Tribute_Green Fields of France

  • This is a collage I did based off the song titled "Green Fields of France" performed by The Merry Wives of Windsor.
Before watching, please note that this film was created with the best intentions to commemorate a bloody conflict, which from my perspective, has been overshadowed and almost forgotten by the reputation of the latter confligration, the Second World War. For the younger generations to take better notice, I have combined the history of the First World War with the anime genre.
There is no doubt in my mind that some, or many may find this video blasphemous, insulting, or offensive. However, let it be known that I did not assemble this clip for the sake of creating any form of offense, or to make a mockery of this very serious and heartbreaking period in history. I too am just as dedicated to the past as many others. However, I find that by using the anime genre and familiar characters to portray these historical events, the younger generation may discover the importance behind the Great War and how its significance shaped the world we live in today.
I have done extensive research, including how the uniforms appeared and what the atmosphere was like on the Western Front and have gained some knowledge on the Battle of the Somme, which acts as the background to this story.
If, however, this video causes outrage and anger, once again there is no malicious intention and I do humbly apologize for any offences made. However, please do not take any anger out on me or the drawings done. It took a great deal of time and effort to assemble this clip. Therefore, if you have any negative things you wish to say, please keep it to yourself and grant mercy to this blind fool whom you believe may have made a mockery of one of the greatest conflicts in world history.
    Sincerest Regards and Apologies,
    LordDrakoArakis

You artistic genius. The way you drew the poppies, a long lived symbol of the fallen of the Great War, almost look like silhouettes of soldiers.
Whether planned or not, it's beautiful symbolism.

War is war and it's everywhere. This song makes me cry too. Many gave their lives in the Great War. Back then there was a conflict in Mexico; Mexican Revolution. Many men and women died in that conflict, I never meet to my grandpa who fought when kid in the Mexican Revolution (1910-1917) such as the Cristero war (1926-1929). The dead still have ears @OtaconGamer.
I remember tales from Mexican revolution fighters, Cristero fighters and now I meet with veteran on this Memorial Day here in Canada.
As you said @ChanceMcStabes, Canadians shouldn't be forgotten. One Canadian joined to the Pancho Villa's front.

Eric Bogle wrote this decades after the war. WWI was a stupid war, but it is easy to diminish the importance of national defense, but just as it is important to have police and law, it is also important, sometimes, to stand and fight on a national or international scale. Great animation work, and great choice of songs.

Kim Holtby "The contention that a standing army and navy is the best security of peace is about as logical as the claim that the most peaceful citizen is he who goes about heavily armed. The experience of every-day life fully proves that the armed individual is invariably anxious to try his strength. The same is historically true of governments. Really peaceful countries do not waste life and energy in war preparations, With the result that peace is maintained."

Normally I don't like anime (just a personal, aesthetic preference), but you've done a fine job with this video.
Two historical corrections: 1) From all the photos I've seen, all soldiers in this war had short hair (I've seen photos of soldiers barbering each other), and 2) the women involved in the war were nurses and assorted aid workers (there were female military clerks, at least with American forces, but they were nowhere near the front).
If you were taking artistic license with these two facts, my sincere apologies.
    Again, a damned fine job.
May God grant us the wisdom to stop making war against each other!

3 years late but this is quite humorous to anyone with a bit of anime experience. 1. The wildly straight eratic hair that is long is a staple of anime ad drawing aniime without it would look strange so def an artistic license. The really funny part here is all the characters in here in a military capacity are actually male not female. The mistake is easy to make as anime characters are very feminine. Even the males. Masculinity is depicted differently then through physicality in anime. More in brash action or brooding nature. Hope that helps. I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing at the un-intended blast at anime fans.

The suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the pain; the, the dying . . . . but never in vain.
The sacrifices borne by so many, no matter what the reason or the cause, must never be forgotten. We honor them today as we always must, as heroes who died for what they thought was right. Thank you so much for this, Drako. I hope to see more like this for other songs of glory. Thank you and God bless.

They say that war happened "again and again," which is true, but after 1945, we haven't had anything on near the same scale as WW I and WW II. I think we're getting better at not killing each other, and that gives me reason for hope.

Today is November 11th, Veteran's Day in America and Remembrance Day in England. (Sorry if I am wrong here.) It was on this day, now 99 years ago, at the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month the guns suddenly went silent and the war stopped. Although it wouldn't be until the treaty was signed that the war ended, one has to wonder how the soldiers must have felt when the shooting stopped. It was said one German soldier simply stood up, bowed towards the soldiers he was fighting seconds ago, and then picked up his machinegun and walked away.

@MorganBonny 3rd (and last) comment, sorry UA-cam won't let me post it all in one - Anime/manga is a very expressive style & it allows you to bring a lot of depth into your storytelling. I think you have a great goal here, bringing history to a younger audience by what some would consider an unconventional means. Keep up the good work!

Seeing that number "20,000" on this vid made me frown. It deserves more. I have posted a link to this video on Facebook with my respects to the fallen soldiers of every country, allies and (former?) enemies of Americans alike. I hate the messages that say "If you agree, pass it on!" because I've seen to many for pointless causes, but if you see my message or feel like creating your own please do pass it on. This deserves to be shared, seen, and felt.

Too many times we remember the cause for a war and not the men that died for it. All men that have ever fought and died did so for their own reasons. Some fought for honor, some for glory, some for power, some because they were forced to do so, but all are deserved of honor and rememberance. The men that fought at the Somme were no less honorable than those that fought at Gettysburg, or the Bulge, or at Fallujah. Let us remember them and their sacrifice in this holiday season. God bless them.

Lyrics (let me know if something’s not right):
Oh, how do you do, young Willy McBride
Do you mind if I sit here down by your graveside
And rest for a while in the warm summer sun
I’ve been walking all day and I’m nearly done
And I see by your gravestone you were only nineteen
When you joined the great fallen of 1916
Well I hope you died quick
And I hope you died clean
Oh Willy McBride, was is it slow and obscene?
Did they beat the drums slowly
Did the play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the Last Post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
And did you leave a wife or a sweetheart behind
In some loyal heart is your memory enshrined
And although you died back in 1916
to that loyal heart you're forever nineteen
Or are you a stranger without even a name
forever enshrined behind some old glass pane
In an old photograph torn, tattered, and stained
And faded to yellow in a brown leather frame
Did they beat the drums slowly
Did the play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
The sun shining down on these green fields of france
The warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance
The trenches have vanished long under the plow
No gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing down
But here in this graveyard it’s still no mans land
The countless white crosses in mute witness stand
Till' man's blind indifference to his fellow man
And a whole generation was butchered and damned
Did they beat the drums slowly
Did the play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
And I can't help but wonder oh Willy McBride
Do all those who lie here know why they died
Did you really believe them when they told you the cause
Did you really believe that this war would end wars
The suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the pain
The killing, the dying, it was all done in vain
Oh Willy McBride it all happened again
And again, and again, and again, and again
Did they beat the drums slowly
Did the play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

If you watch "Band of Bothers", "Thin Red Line", "Saving Private Ryan" and films like those, in which no jets are involved, you'll hear those noises.
    Greetings from France.

God I hate UA-cam new enforcing of their guidelines. Now many of LordDrakoArakis videos have been age restricted. 😤 Well at least we can still enjoy this one as well as the majority of the videos made.

I honestly wish it had been the war that ended all wars, but unfortunately there will always be humans with evil in their hearts willing to do unspeakable things. Thankfully though, we'll always have heroes like Willie McBride who will fight to defend the innocent

No Mans Land (Green Fields Of France) was written in 1976, a great many years after Streets of Laredo.

The only part of this song that is offensive is the part where willy is asked about the reasons he died. Nothing will ever end armed conflict. All we can do is study past wars, remember the fallen, and try to limit the number of wars that happen. God bless the fallen, their loved ones, and their nations.

I this has got to be The Battle of the Somme
2 well known and decisive battles that come to my mind were the french showed their powerful resolve and their fighting spirit were the battles of Verdun and the Marne
In the case of France I think such valiant men have not walked the Earth ever since...
except maybe during the Nazi Occupation
    may they be remembered forever
(the same can also be said of Germany as well)

The First World War had to be fought. Germany invaded Belgium and committed innumerable atrocities against the civilian population - this is historical fact (Tamines, Louvain etc). UK. France honoured their obligations under international law. The problem was the military incompetence of the generals, almost all of them cavalrymen, who had no idea how warfare had changed.
