You said a average public school but with a 4.6 you weren’t top 25?!? my school is considered pretty competitive for the area and with a 4.117 I’m 16th (of 823) with the top 3 having around 4.4 which is insane at our school, also it seemed like you had 7 classes and could take APs starting freshman year, absolutely no hate to you I just don’t understand how colleges can compare kids with such differing circumstances, especially this year when everywhere was test optional. Seeing you get waitlisted/rejected from the 4 ivies I applied to has taken away my hope lol (again this is not like blaming you or anything just an observation of how weird college admissions is)

I’m looking at these top 50 schools and I honestly have absolutely no idea what chance I have of getting in at all.. I don’t really have a dream school cause idk I just don’t really know too much about each school.. maybe the fact that my parents didn’t go to college will help? Who knows. I’m pretty decent at writing but at my school there isn’t ap only aice and I’m only going to have 8 in total, I would’ve taken more but Covid messed me up tbh.. Get involved/found your own awareness/remote volunteering/tech related communities online will be a good move. E.g. a lot of kids in underdeveloped regions/school districts might need online tutoring opportunities.
do things that you actually like, because if you aren't interested in chess but do it for the sake of college, colleges won't see that you're passionate about it and it won't be good for you either if you don't like chess
Man US schools confuse me, how is Uni able to look at your marks from middle or elementary school and use that to make decisions. In Canada universities and colleges which are completely different up here, usually look at your high school career specifically your grade 11 and 12 years and make decisions based on that but y’all got it hard so respect for having to put that much effort to get in just one school let alone an Ivey school. I know I’d never get into a big 10 school are anything that’s d1 for sports 😂, I had like a 3.0 gpa start of grade 12 and went back for a victory lap after graduation and left with a 2.96 or close to it, I had a ton of extracurriculars that would have made me stand out for top universities but they were more important to me than my grades were so now I’m stuck in college, or your version of community college I think and my dreams of going to any of my dream schools are dead ex. Western University of Ontario(UWO in London Ontario) or Ole Miss. stay in school kids, try to get the best grades you can but don’t stress yourself out that shit is way too unhealthy for you. So I have to start literally EVERYTHING on my college path completely fresh next year. I’m a hard worker and working towards Berkeley and Columbia. Since a lot of your activities were 4 years long and stuff?
Did you apply as a certain major? I like English but I’m not 100% sure if o want to study something like that in college. i swim but im not that good, and i do a ton of music. voice, band, chorus, piano lessons, and a sick rock group thing. im not really the best or all that amazing in any of those things, i just absolutely love to do them. but that probably wont be enough for these crazy ass schools lmao
Thanks for the great video!! Rice is my dream school. What did you write about for your why rice?
Ty this was so helpful!
thank you so much for this!!
youre so inspiring
can you do an in-depth video of your ECs and awards/honors?
You said a average public school but with a 4.6 you weren’t top 25?!? my school is considered pretty competitive for the area and with a 4.117 I’m 16th (of 823) with the top 3 having around 4.4 which is insane at our school, also it seemed like you had 7 classes and could take APs starting freshman year, absolutely no hate to you I just don’t understand how colleges can compare kids with such differing circumstances, especially this year when everywhere was test optional. Seeing you get waitlisted/rejected from the 4 ivies I applied to has taken away my hope lol (again this is not like blaming you or anything just an observation of how weird college admissions is)
Congrats🎉🎉. I just watched your reaction video. Did you decide on our college?
Ugh I’m a senior this year and this college stuff is so confusing 😭 neither of my parents went to college so I don’t have much guidance but I have a 3.78 unweighted gpa but a 5.1 weighted gpa, I’m so confused I don’t even know if that’s good cause I see people like you with 4.0s but a lower weighted gpa than I have so idk if I’m doing well or if mine is just scaled differently and I suck.. for extracurriculars I don’t have too many besides 3 years of tennis and maybe art club and community service.. I’m in the top 10% of my class but yeah.. ig I’ll just have to wait and see
Hi did u end up submitting all of ur AP scores to college?
yes!
there’s so many applicants to these schools with so little variation in measured credentials, how is it possible to be selective?
that’s where your essay and activities come in, you have to make sure you can stand out
Essays
hi jeanie do you have an estimate of when you're gonna reveal your showstopping essays to us? i'd love to see them and i'm sure i'm not the only one! :)
Wow this is actually realistic
What are you majoring in?
hey! just a quick question lol i also got a 1460 on the SAT and wanted to now if you submitted your score for all of the schools you applied to or just some??
Okay so I'm a senior this year and because of covid most of the clubs closed down so does anyone know good extracurricular activities to join outside of school that would look good for colleges?
Chess club, any sports/ active clubs, tutoring.
Get involved/found your own awareness/remote volunteering/tech related communities online will be a good move. E.g. a lot of kids in underdeveloped regions/school districts might need online tutoring opportunities.
Internships
Just follow your passion it's less impressive when you do things just for applications
do things that you actually like, because if you aren't interested in chess but do it for the sake of college, colleges won't see that you're passionate about it and it won't be good for you either if you don't like chess
Much love ❤️.
3:22 Don't worry me too (same year). At least I only need to do one more semester to meet proficiency here at UVA
"look how much conformist I am"
Sorry you didn't get into your dream school, Stanford...(We're Asian) My sister got accepted to Stanford her dream school as well... We noticed pretty much every UA-cam College reaction videos, basically 8.5 out of 10 didn't get into Stanford, even ones that got accepted to Princeton MIT, Yale, and Harvard.... After you shared your stats, Ec's, and numbers, My sister pretty much had similar ...However, there most definitely were a few huge huge factors that got her into Stanford
what were those huge factors
@@salt5711 My sister early on was mentored by a Stanford Alumni from the 10th grade, was accepted to Stanford Summer program for HS students, further networking with professors there , and was coached by both Stanford Alumni and directly by former admissions committee-member on the essay and app process… Unfortunately whole process was extremely expensive
Hey Jeanie! So did you just end up not doing the class rank section of the common app?
Hi! I have a question; so I recently had to move from Florida to New York in the middle of freshman year. Now freshman year is ending. So I have to start literally EVERYTHING on my college path completely fresh next year. I’m a hard worker and working towards Berkeley and Columbia. Do you think that since I’m starting sophomore year instead of freshman year when it comes to extracurriculars/awards/opportunities that it’s too late for me to get in where I want? Since a lot of your activities were 4 years long and stuff?
I would like to tank you for making me feel bad about myself😭
Did you apply as a certain major? I like English but I’m not 100% sure if o want to study something like that in college. I got a 35 on English and reading and a 31 and 32 on the science and math I think for a total of 33. So I clearly am more of the English type that the STEM type and I think that’s my best chance. What did you do?
i have such a low amount of extracurricular like not even 2 and i hve no awards and i’m going into my junior year !! ahhh
Ayo, I'm starting a vitamin business and I'm trying to get other high school students to help out with website design, programming, advertising, and clinical study so if you wanna do something for it then it would be a good extracurricular and I'll give ya a fancy job name‼️‼️‼️
Same
Bruh before i saw this video I thought my stats were ass but now i think that my extracurriculars are severely lacking lol
this is amazing congrats!! could you share your essays if comfortable?
Not me being to young to even get into college watching this like Colombia is my school
I swear school in america is so complicated. I never had to calculate like that where I'm from to get into university.
your video is very interesting, admire you
i know im late but i was wondering what kinds of programs you applied to during your senior year (because you said that you continued updating your application!) im gonna be a senior this year so i want to make sure i dont miss any opportunities :)
So happy for you can I ask if you studied any years of your life in us or other English speaking countries to improve your English or did you always studied in South Korea?
Congrats!! Just curious what you plan to study :)
Hey, I have a question, where did you go (like websites) in order to apply for those awards and honors? Thanks I’m very happy for you

damn after watching this i gotta have a lifestyle change or sum 💀
S which one will you pick?
out of curiosity what major did u apply for?
what is your weighted GPA on a scale of? because in my school, a 4.6 weighted would be top 5 easily? sorry if i missed it thanks!
Hey, I am a Canadian citizen but I have done my schooling from India . I don’t have any AP exams given neither does my school follow IB . If I give SAT subject tests will it be okay? And if my final exams end by march and result is by may or June that means I will get admission before final exams?
hi! thank you so much for this video, quick q: what's the name of the human rights organization you worked with? thanks again!'
Wait, GPA looks at middle school? I didn’t do the best in 6th grade so would that affect my gpa or does it start later in middle school
middle school doesn’t count for most high school GPAs. i took 3 high school-level courses in middle school (spanish 1, honors algebra 1, honors geometry), so the courses will appear on my transcript, but the grade won’t be there and no middle school grades are part of my gpa.
if you’re concerned then i’d say talk to your guidance counselor about it to clear things up.
shows that stats isn't everything if you have strong ecs
what does she mean “in middle school”.. DO COLLEGES SEE YOUR MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADES??
They only do for highschool level courses taken in middle school, so don’t sweat it 🥰😅
I took Algebra and Spanish in middle school and they counted towards my HS GPA
Hello! By any chance, can I please ask you the name of the human rights organization? I'm trying to find opportunities in human rights organizations but because I'm living outside of the states, it is really hard to find one... Thank you very much!
do some ivys count middles school, cuz i did horrible in middle school-
only if u take a class for hs credit
@@mariamxo13 wdym
@@noone-mx1bo some classes in middle school like languages, higher level math (algebra and on), and health can be taken in middle school and count towards hs. but if you weren’t told that it counts for hs credits then don’t worry
@@mariamxo13 oh ok thx!!
did you submit your SAT and ACT or just one? we have nearly identical scores on both haha so I'm trying to decide what to do (my 1500 SAT is a bit higher than my 32 ACT so idk)
woah same stats here. I'm thinking of sending the SAT (1500) because I worked harder for it T-T and it does seem to be higher than the ACT (93% vs 89%)
Nice
Guys, please help
I'm 23, if I'm going to a college next year will my high school activities and awards be considered? Or i need something from the last 4 years only?
Congratulations!! I'm not too sure, but I would think they would be taken into account
