I subscribed a few years back because of a video where you repaired something. Don’t remember, but I just started coming back to your videos randomly and man, love it, dude!!! Been watching your videos non stop all day!!
Believe it or not I was at my local movie shop here in Toronto and the guy had just bought some laserdiscs from a customer and had them for sale. Problem is I can't really find any place that sells a decent laserdisc player here.
bobbypaycheque Same here down in SC, I was at my local GoodWill not too long back, and they had a pile of LaserDisc in with the Vinyl Albums, but no LaserDisc player. I think that's because a lot of early LD Players used gas Argon lasers rather then solid state laser, which burned out quicker, and the ones that are still in good working order, collectors, and home theater buffs tend to hold on too them tight. A real treat would be too find some of the last Pioneer LD Players made(Amazon has 2 for sale used at $600US Yikes!!!!), that could also play DVD, in progressive 480P with component cables.
I like these kinds of videos. We generally take our everyday surroundings for granted, but it can be hard to remember what they used to look like when they change, since people don't usually photograph or video anything but special occasions.
So great to see another hard-off video man! This video made my day, coming home from work and seeing this in my subs feed =) Looks as though there was some pretty cool stuff in there. That PC-9801 monitor was too cool, but I can understand why you wouldn't want to try biking home with that monster, lol. Loved seeing the bike ride down to the store as well, always nice to see videos out and about in Japan. A+ video my friend!
wow yeah it HAS been a while since we got some hard-off huh? Still bummed we don't have that chain here in the US! Definitely a cool store even for all the non-videogame stuff! Too bad about the PC-9801 though now that would've been a sweet system to own! But good to see that the stuff you DID get got home in one piece! Looking forward to seeing how the Pole Position turns out with the speakers. Awesome videos as always man.
What a neat and interesting video!! Thanks Luke! Hard off looks like one of those places that you hope resembles heaven!! Also I'm glad your brakes held on while you were filming. :P (do you remember when i suggested a "helmetcam" or "hatcam" hehehe it would be useful for so many situations)
Awesome video Luke, thanks for making the trip as I love seeing the Japanese country side, I'm doing my best to try, and one day at least take a 2 week vacation in Japan, with my g/f and her daughter :-).
Always love the Hard Off vids Luke. Such a shame that you found that NEC PC but couldn't get it home. I really hope you find a way of getting it - shame they don't do home delivery.
At 31:05 The Shawshank Redemption... awesome movie! Finding something you wanted that was large and not being able to easily transport it reminds me of getting halfway inside the jockey lot early one morning and finding a big heavy item I'd like to buy for cheap and realizing it is going to require a trip back to the car if I want to enjoy the rest of my browsing... always sucks, eh? Lol! Nice vid!
oh c´mon luke, i thought you would drift down that hill "initial-d style" :D great video none the less, japan really has some beautiful bicycle highways ^_^
Awesome video . I'd love to go through those ps1 and gameboy games . As I love playing even games that are heavy japanese speach and weird style games . :) .
Luke's Hard Off video!? It's like Christmas day :) I wished to be there for empty my bank account and helping you getting that PC-98 beast and the Star Wars Trilogy on Laserdisc that is beyond awesome!
Really nice detailed look through the store, the junk section was so cool. I hope you get a chance to go back for that PC-98 system and monitor. Laser discs - cool and boxed set versions too. I got a 2nd laser disc player recently that plays both sides of the disc. You really don't see any discs around here though.
That sniper air rifle does look so insane Luke! You can find those original Wii's now for between $30 to $40 but some people are so stuck on trying to sell them for $70 and up even though it is a last generation console.
Lukebro. Very cool video man! but for your own safety maybe you could duck tape your camera onto the steering or something :] hard off is like gamers paradise. nice nerdgasm on that specific old pc. haha
Very windy here at Shimane too. Haven't found any GOOD second hand stores, they are still asking something like 300 yen and more for even PS2 games and have nothing older than that.
Haha I find it really funny you were seriously considering taking that computer on your bike, but then when you reached those box sets you immediately said they were too heavy. I found a kick scooter to be very useful in Japan since you can put all your junk on it while you walk back with it.
Probably been said before but the music reminds me of the Tomato Convenience store in Shenmue. Also a bit like the music in British shops in the eighties.
You're trips to hard off luke all ways gives me envy :p Pricey wii&PS3 games huh, that's weird in the u.s there dropping in price.I know i got plans to pick up a (wii u) sooner or later. While the PS4 is out in the u.s now it's launch lineup of games just don't appeal to me.The PS4 can wait for now, beside there's plenty left i want for the PS3.By the way it's been years since i bought a game for the neo-geo cmvs, but i finally bought a copy of (nightmare in the dark) ^_^
Wow...laserdiscs for pretty cheap there! There is a store down the road from me that sells 'em, there are a few for a dollar...i think i'll just go buy up all the $1 ones to build up a collection....I have about 40 or 50 laserdiscs in my collection.....
for some reason this is the first video of a game store trip that I've watched of yours. excellent! you are like me I gravitate immediately and find more gratification in the "junk" sections keep up the good work, and tell me how much it would be to have you send me a super Famicom controller as well lol
How many miles is it from your home to Hard Off just curious Luke. And I saw my first Pokemon game Pokemon Yellow or Pocket Monsters Pikachu edition and in box I think that's rare to find in box and I saw Pokemon Pearl and that typing Pokemon game you saw is an educational game teaching you how to type. I would have a field day if Chicago had one here but what can you do if one isn't here.
hard off reminds me of a japanese version of the exchange up here in the midwest... of course hardoff is a lil bigger and has some cooler stuff but still surprisingly similar haha
Great video as always, Luke! The Japan tourism stuff and the Hard Off stuff are two of my favourite kinds of videos of yours, and this combines both! I'm curious, does Hard Off carry much in the way of cassettes and cassette players? I collect these, and I'm visiting Tokyo for a month next year, so I'd definitely like to pick some stuff up from Hard Off that isn't just games!
Luke-san, any junk PC Engine controllers? 23:26 God damn if I ever need a official Nintendo A/V cable I know where to go. 24:13 A LINK TO THE PAST MANUALS! Both volumes. The Gold books. Wow I could spend a lot of money there, and spend even more getting it shipped back to the US.
Thanks for shooting this video! Is Hard Off a small chain store? Or just a one of a kind place? Either way, that store would be right up my alley haha. Cheers Luke! ^>^
I subscribed a few years back because of a video where you repaired something. Don’t remember, but I just started coming back to your videos randomly and man, love it, dude!!! Been watching your videos non stop all day!!
I love these videos. these stores are so rad,, your so lucky to have those places!!!
Today I traveled back to 2013 Hard off vídeo, thank you for memories
i have that same exact star wars trilogy , and it's a delight to own. Good vid. Thanks again Luke.
Man, now I want to run a store like hard off. Looks like a good mix of stuff there. Thanks for the vid, Luke. I'll keep watching!
Very cool video. I love all this stuff and it's neat seeing it like being there. Thanks for posting.
Luke your videos are the best, been watching for quite a while over the years. Your videos are always so upbeat and interesting to watch!
love the intro...not only is it retro and awesome, but not 90 seconds long like others :)
Wow, a 99 gmc safari was that last thing I was expecting to see going around the corner at 03:22. Another awesome video luke!
Great video Luke, love the bike rides and the hard off vids so it was perfect together.
I love your bikeride videos. Thanks for sharing!
Love this wind blown biking about videos Luke. And of course a Hard Off video can't go wrong really. I feel your pain about the Nec PC.
Oh snap a hard off video yes Thankyou can't wait to see what treasure you find I so wish hard off was in Philly
Loads of laserDiscs!. Wish we had a shop like that in the UK.
Believe it or not I was at my local movie shop here in Toronto and the guy had just bought some laserdiscs from a customer and had them for sale. Problem is I can't really find any place that sells a decent laserdisc player here.

This was a joy to watch Luke pal :-) That hill was a beast ! As were the deals ! :-)
that's great to see you back in the hard off! thanks for the video, great stuff...
great video, u did a great job makin us feel like we were with u
This shop is the gamers paradise... great video as always!
Always really love your Hard Off series Luke!! That place is so great!!
Thank you, great video Luke! I was one of the people asking for another hard off video hahaha.
I like these kinds of videos.
We generally take our everyday surroundings for granted, but it can be hard to remember what they used to look like when they change, since people don't usually photograph or video anything but special occasions.

Enjoyed the trip thanks for taking us along
love youre bike luke, hope you ride it more often :) great clip!
Thanks a lot for this video, for a second I feel like I was there! You will need to get one of those Panasonic bicycles with electric assistance :D

Sigh
Liquido Suave Ok?
Always love the Hard Off vids Luke. Such a shame that you found that NEC PC but couldn't get it home. I really hope you find a way of getting it - shame they don't do home delivery.
Imagine working in that place and have to listen to that music all day.
I wouldn't mind, quit relaxing.
Jordan Lyons You would quit relaxing alright. :)
I have a new understanding for people committing suicide.
This spring you should make sure to film those trees when they have cherry blossoms.
At 31:05 The Shawshank Redemption... awesome movie! Hardoff!! Has it been a year already? I made freakin' popcorn for this!
Btw thanks for sharing, luke. Very interesting video.
Thanks for sharing Luke :-)
Btw all those broken X360's look familiar :-)
This store is amazing, wish we had these.
Wow, some awesome laserdisc titles there for super cheap!!!
Really cool! I wish games collecting was as easy in Sweden as in Japan...
Lukebro. Very cool video man! but for your own safety maybe you could duck tape your camera onto the steering or something :] hard off is like gamers paradise. nice nerdgasm on that specific old pc. haha
Holy crap, Gaolion and the box is in good shape
"Lets jump on this and ride some of that :)"
Thanks for the trip! I'm gonna head to my local Cash Converters tomorrow now. Not quite as good but hey :)
Aww, can't you get a taxi back with it Luke? :D
Yay! My favorite series return.
thanks for making the trip luke!
Luke, you SHOULD have picked up that Star Wars set. That goes for around $100 or more in that condition alone!
looks like they have gotten pricey...love the toys...lol
You should do more bicycle videos.I really enjoy these ^__^
Very windy here at Shimane too. Haven't found any GOOD second hand stores, they are still asking something like 300 yen and more for even PS2 games and have nothing older than that.
The stash of retro stuff always make me want to go live in japan, seriously. I could build a house with all those famicom as bricks
those ultra man figures are freaking awesome!
Luke. That Star Wars box set was like $250 dollars back in the day. I still have mine in mint condition as well as two working LD players ;-)
Man I wish we had stores like this in the UK. This was awesome. I swear about 90% of the shops near me are clothes shops. :/
greetings from istanbul luke, global enjoyement of your videos.
Oh snap a hard off video yes you made my day Thankyou

I just wanna buy the whole store !
Probably been said before but the music reminds me of the Tomato Convenience store in Shenmue. Also a bit like the music in British shops in the eighties.
Awesome Video luke!
Hard Off is an awesome place. Wish we had one here.
I would be so poor if i lived in Japan :p nice video as always.
Love your cool big earring.!
Man I wanna go to that Hard Off store soooo much :D
You're trips to hard off luke all ways gives me envy :p Pricey wii&PS3 games huh, that's weird in the u.s there dropping in price.I know i got plans to pick up a (wii u) sooner or later. While the PS4 is out in the u.s now it's launch lineup of games just don't appeal to me.The PS4 can wait for now, beside there's plenty left i want for the PS3.By the way it's been years since i bought a game for the neo-geo cmvs, but i finally bought a copy of (nightmare in the dark) ^_^
Fantastic!!!
That music being on a constant loop must end up doing your head in if you worked there. Imagine, hour after hour...
That Star Wars laser disc set... I think Mark at CGR did a review of that in one of his non-game reviews.
I think I just watched you pass up a chrono trigger manual in one of those bins.
I'd love to get my hands on those laser discs.
It hurts to see the abundance of Laserdiscs sitting there, they are so rare around me
I squealed like a school gurl when I saw the 1/100 MG Strike Freedom Full Burst model kit.
First thing I see in the shop: Metroid Other M. Nice!
Edit: And there is Phantasy Star Online! I like this shop.
Very cheap NEO-GEO CDs!!!! Another great vid "pirate" Luke! XD HARD-OFF ROCKS!
I'm sooooo envious of shops like this !! here in europe the only way I can get retro gaming stuff is from auction sites which pretty overpriced...
That was a nice deal on the rockman X3, shoulda picked it up for ebay.
Nice trip !
Wow...laserdiscs for pretty cheap there! There is a store down the road from me that sells 'em, there are a few for a dollar...i think i'll just go buy up all the $1 ones to build up a collection....I have about 40 or 50 laserdiscs in my collection.....

Nice adventure : ) Any Hard-Off stores around Osaka?
that IQ ps1 i think is the same one i am remembering, being sought after
Love the laserdiscs. Own the Star Wars Episode 1 on laserdisc ( One of the rarest laserdiscs that exists ).
So nostalgic. Will we get another Off Vid?
I started to shout outloud when you got to that monitor lol " I will toss it on my back Luke!, lets run it to your house!"
AWESOME! another hard off video!!! :) Nice 1 Luke!

hard off reminds me of a japanese version of the exchange up here in the midwest... of course hardoff is a lil bigger and has some cooler stuff but still surprisingly similar haha
the exchange only has multimedia though no bicycles or refrigeration equipment lmao
Great video as always, Luke! The Japan tourism stuff and the Hard Off stuff are two of my favourite kinds of videos of yours, and this combines both! I collect these, and I'm visiting Tokyo for a month next year, so I'd definitely like to pick some stuff up from Hard Off that isn't just games!
It's interesting that they allow you to record in their stores. You could never do that in the states, store owners freak out about it.
Its been a long time since ive seen a Hard off video :)
Thanks for shooting this video! Is Hard Off a small chain store? Or just a one of a kind place? Either way, that store would be right up my alley haha. Cheers Luke! ^>^
