got to love hard off's, dragged my arse from shinjuku out to the one that had moved in one of your other video's, best few hours i spent shopping my whole trip. The junk section is amazing for parts, everything i bought was mint & working - just incomplete. Took two baskets full of stuff for like £50. excellent!!!!
That green Game Boy isn't too common a find... I guess the closest thing to HO we have here are goodwill and big lots. Sort of a combination between the two, but looks to be more upscale than either.
I would probably be there all day flipping through the games and pulling system and controller boxes.. Sometimes I want to yell through the screen and say "Hey Luke! NOOO stop at that container, let's check some of that out." It seems their pricing methods are really all over because some things seem like a really good deal, and other things are in line what you would find anywhere, just a way better selection. GREAT video as always!
Ahhh, that music.... The sweet sound of Japanese angels descending from heaven in their unending chorus, bestowing upon earth the benevolent gift of Super Hard Off. Thank the gods you're there to share the love with us Luke. Nice pick-ups, by the way. :)
Every time I watch your thrift hunt videos (which are always exciting BTW) NeoGeo is almost always brought up. Would be nice to find one huh? On the bright side at least you found those NEO arcade style fight stick controllers.
Man, a Neo Geo, plus you saw that PC Engine with the PC CD, I wish I could go to these places, or even we even had something remotely similar here in the states that'd be awesome. I'd have a hay day if I went to any of these places, I could grab me some Wonderswan games and then maybe get a Famicom and some more Super Fami games, oh I would end up spending far too much money, not that it would be any different from what I do now. XD Anyway, I can't wait to see what you've picked up Luke.
Damn a Famicom Disc system sounds good. I finally found a Famicom and its on the way to my house right now. I love when you do these shopping videos. Too bad they are so strict about that camera.
Here's a question I always wondered: can you mix and match controllers for Saturns or do they have to match as far as the colours of the system/controller? Just wondering
Does anyone know what was actually written on the blue crates? Did it just say something like "controllers", "games" and such or was it something else?
I love these hard-off videos, it's like a nerd-gasm with the games, consoles and controllers! Shame they have become stricter about using a camera instore, I assume you were stopped once with the camera before? :P
First off, a Neo Geo down the street here in Vegas costs $500. It comes with two games. Would love to know how much you got the Geo for. ALso, I just have to say, I think the sexiest game console design ever HAS to go to the Super Famicom....What a beautiful machine it was!
I wish there was a store like Hard Off around here in the states, but then again maybe it's a good thing there isn't because I would spend so much money there.
You turned up a PC Engine CD a Core GraFX and a copy of Final Fantasy V... I would be broke in minutes if I entered that store... Here in Australia (in Canberra at least) a Nintendo 64 would go for 150 bucks... For just the controller, cables and the system... If you can find one...
@gdub12345 It's a local store here in Norway. Or rather, in my town. It's aimed at students and people with not a whole lot of money. So you could basically buy a stick of gum or go there and get entire sets of dinner plates etc. :) Every town should have one.
While they are not that easy to come by hear in the U.S., you might want find a place that sells broadcast monitors. Most of them can do both pal and ntsc and some of them allow you to output rgb. Other option would be capture card through pc but you would face the delay issue.
Luke, print out a media badge and laminate it.. that way you can tell them your a reporter doing a news story for great deals on video games and you will mention to everyone to shop Hard Off! No more camera worries man.
*Sigh*... Japan sounds like a retro gamer's paradise, 25 dollars for a PC Engine with a CD-ROM drive attachment, over here in the UK a PC-Engine with no cables or games cost's about 60 pounds (almost 90 dollars), and you have to pay Import tax on top of that just to get it into the country. The UK is a terrible place for retro collecting.
+Daniel M feel your pain man had a look to to see how much it'd be to import a msx2 or sharp 68000 and almost cried, poop and puked at the same time after see the cost.
@segacd32xz All we have here in the states are places like GameStop and EB Games. The entire game selection at my local GameStop store would only fill a quarter to maybe half of just one shelf in this place.
why can't i find cheap game stuff in minnesota? all the old school game shops i live by overvalue the games so you cant get them dirt cheap. i love going to garage sales and getting cheap games. i bought earthbound for the snes for 2 bucks at a garage sale, they are selling it for 90 at the local game store i go to. what a rip.

Thanks for showing the reel-to-reel tape decks. Cool beans!!!
We're those LaserDiscs you walked past, or LPs? LOL!
STAY AWESOME!
Gah, that place rocks. Puts all the stores here in the US to shame, haha. Great video!
at 2:30 I was shouting LOOK AN XRGB-2!
That green Game Boy isn't too common a find...
I guess the closest thing to HO we have here are goodwill and big lots. Sort of a combination between the two, but looks to be more upscale than either.
a neo geo...awsome pick up...and i would kill for one of those reel to reel tape decks...i got one now, but 2 would be awsome
I truly enjoyed this video. That looks like a really groovy store. I'd kill if there was a place like that in my city.
That 7 string Ibanez at the start is sooooooooooo sweet!
8:39 LOL!!!!! Shamisen remixxxxxxx
Good scores, especially the clear SS controller for 4 bucks! (and the Neo, which is just naturally awesome.)
I would probably be there all day flipping through the games and pulling system and controller boxes.. Sometimes I want to yell through the screen and say "Hey Luke! NOOO stop at that container, let's check some of that out."

GREAT video as always!
Wish we had this store here. Looks amazing.

Nice pick-ups, by the way. :)
That Neo Geo AES is a great find! I SOOOO wish we had these stores in the US!
I've been looking for a NeoGeo over in the states for forever. Been to pawn shops, flea markets. Nobody has one.
Every time I watch your thrift hunt videos (which are always exciting BTW) NeoGeo is almost always brought up. Would be nice to find one huh? On the bright side at least you found those NEO arcade style fight stick controllers.
so is all the stuff in the blue bins broken in some way? also how much would a normal one of lets say a famicom would cost
@Destruktive That sounds great, what store is this and where in the u.k. is it located? Sounds like a sweet job!
Man, a Neo Geo, plus you saw that PC Engine with the PC CD, I wish I could go to these places, or even we even had something remotely similar here in the states that'd be awesome. My god...that's a lot of FDS systems. Do they have the RAM carts with them? And the Super Famicoms...Jesus shit. I need to go to Japan...
Here's a question I always wondered: can you mix and match controllers for Saturns or do they have to match as far as the colours of the system/controller? Just wondering
i bet ppl think ure mental walking round a shop with a cam talking to yourself.. lol.. Respect from England and keep the the awsome work!!
My eyes popped out of my head at that Neo Geo! One hell of a find but how much was it?
You better snatch up that AES. How much was it by the way?? Nice find!
Does anyone know what was actually written on the blue crates? Did it just say something like "controllers", "games" and such or was it something else?
I love these hard-off videos, it's like a nerd-gasm with the games, consoles and controllers!

wow,great store..
Man I am so jealous of the fact you have a store like this...
First off, a Neo Geo down the street here in Vegas costs $500. It comes with two games. Would love to know how much you got the Geo for. ALso, I just have to say, I think the sexiest game console design ever HAS to go to the Super Famicom....What a beautiful machine it was!

What do you need a digital video converter for?
I miss Hard Off so much!! I used to go to multiple every weekend, you never know what you are going to find.
Me and you are the only ones still commenting after 11 years lol
Luke! how much did you pay for the NEO GEO AES?
Was that a St. Louis Cardinals hat when you walked in?
Love the PC Engine MrSupercat i have three of them in my collection....Duo-R,Coregrafx II and a Briefcase unit still need a Supergrafx however.
I wish there was a store like Hard Off around here in the states, but then again maybe it's a good thing there isn't because I would spend so much money there.
Goddamn Japan is awesome. I wanna live there but I can't imagine being able to be fluent with the language.
Great video Luke!
Hard off is officially the greatest store in the history of mankind.
Dont even try to argue.
By the time I'll ever be able to get to a Hard Off, Luke will have driven their prices up insanely high lol.
Love these vids man.

I actually have a Canopus, and you picked at a few of them... too spendy?
Damn you LUKE! Why must you make us all jealous?!!!

Luke, if I came to Japan would you show me around a bit?
i lived in japan for three years couldnt find a neo geo at hard off
Theres a really nice free converter called Any Video Converter. You can download for free online.
I would kill to be able to find a Core GraFX or a PC Engine that cheap in the UK
Do you have a square button famicom?
Sounds just like the music you get in the shops in Shenmue. XD
4:39 -> is that a limited edition formel1 PS1???
dude there were only ten of them made, they were given away as a price!
Are some of the games broken in hard off?
Ahhh NeoGeo! Wish I could go somewhere and see one :(
You turned up a PC Engine CD a Core GraFX and a copy of Final Fantasy V...

Umm... Luke? Is hardoff like a store brand name, or is it a general term for a type of store? because I've never seen one here in california...
Dammit I wish I had a store like that around here.
I need to visit japan
now i wish i lived in japan.... this store looks like heaven!
you need to make a whole series of videos of just one tour.
You'd never see anything like this set-up in the states. Probably too afraid crap would get stolen.
5:20 = PRICELESS "neogeo AES im pickin this up"
Man...Neo Geos and PC Engines are 2 of the sexiest looking consoles IMO.
wow that place is amazing !
was that an X'EYE at 8:43?
i so want to go to japan, il bring the shop home with me lol
While they are not that easy to come by hear in the U.S., you might want find a place that sells broadcast monitors. Most of them can do both pal and ntsc and some of them allow you to output rgb. Other option would be capture card through pc but you would face the delay issue.

Luke, print out a media badge and laminate it.. that way you can tell them your a reporter doing a news story for great deals on video games and you will mention to everyone to shop Hard Off! No more camera worries man.
Yes. Japan is very expensive to live in. Hell, a studio apartment rents for about a thousand bucks a month!
around 5:37, was that a Sega Pico at the top??? wow. but srsly LOOK AT ALL THAT. thats it (goes to look for plane tickets to Japan)
Did I just see an XRBG I want one of those so bad!
It would be awesome if they had Hard-Offs in the states...
it was his destiny to find that neo geo lol
Loved this video 14 years ago but ouch that shaky Iow frame rate video today… lol
how could they leave those awsome game systems in a pile that might break them and make us sad
i would kill for a store like that in canada
*Sigh*... alas this video is 7 years old, those prices are just a pipe dream now at hard off.
I agree. I really hope i will see that guy on youtube after he gets over this...
greats on the neo geo luke!
Japanese stores are weird. I always felt like I was in some kind of bizarre flea market or something when I went into one.
@segacd32xz All we have here in the states are places like GameStop and EB Games. The entire game selection at my local GameStop store would only fill a quarter to maybe half of just one shelf in this place.
awesome, really love the hardoff vids
Neo-Geo AES for 9000¥ ??? Holy crap man, you got an amazing deal!!!
watching your vids make me wish I was in Japan right now
why can't i find cheap game stuff in minnesota? all the old school game shops i live by overvalue the games so you cant get them dirt cheap. i love going to garage sales and getting cheap games. i bought earthbound for the snes for 2 bucks at a garage sale, they are selling it for 90 at the local game store i go to. what a rip.
luke when i ever go to japan, we are so going shoppin!
Yeah, i wish i could get a Neo Geo, but they are kinda expensive (and so are the games!)
I have to admit, I did prefer Book Off to Hard Off; The Hard Off in Toyama was mostly a repository for junk.
Why in the world am I not able to see when this video was uploaded? Oh brother.
We might have more stores like this in the USA if people would donate most of their still-working junk rather than just throwing it out...
lol i like the music in the background...
pc engine cd for 20 bucks ?
Here in france you can't find it under 150 euro !
