This is probably the most comprehensive video on root maintenance for different situations & stages of tree growth I have watched to date. Big thanks.

Jelle, your tip about drilling a horizontal hole for the wire is great, and nice to see your thoughtful touch with your friend's tree pot choice. I can't believe that in the first few days of March, I was able to repot outside today and not even have to wear a jacket. We usually have several feet of snow on the ground.

Good point. I think the 4 trees I worked on combined have cost me less than 100 euro's. This hobby does not have to be overly expensive.

That is a really good point about burying the younger trees deeper for better root development - something I often forget! Another well thought out and presented video Jelle :)

Just in time. I’m getting ready to repot several small maples I got from a nursery and you helped me see what I’m doing right and what I’m doing wrong. Thanks for another good video.

Hi Jelle, I love the the first tree you did the Lilac it is a very good natural style. I like your idea of making a hole under the roots on this one to hide the wire but still do its job of holding the tree in place. Great video for the beginners showing how to repot individual trees and working on the roofs. I have a lot of repotting my trees to do over the next couple of weeks.

Great variety of repotting tips and tricks! It's true, everyone does it differently... Some leave the old soil, some remove it, some wash the roots bare...

Thank you for such a thorough demonstration of various approaches. I love your 3 wire tie down approach and used it on severalmaples I repotted last year until the roots stabilized in the pot. I have to get going on repotting. Its been really cold but the buds are "green lining" so I best get hustling. Glad to have watched this first. Thanks.

Thank you for this well-described repotting video Jelle! I never appreciated how differently one handles refined bonsais compared to those in development. Very glad I saw this at the start of my repotting season.
How to you handle the aggressive roots of field grown trees when you start on the refinement path?

🤔 OK, so my seedlings could be potted a bit deeper. Well, I have got a lot of spgahnum moss around the roots, so I will keep it as it is for now. During the summer I will be checking it and the next year I will repot it better. Thank you.

I live in an apartment and fortunately have a huge patio which allows me too many trees. Unfortunately some of them are budding out but not sure if it will be safe to repot as I don’t have a greenhouse to protect them.

Very nice video Jelle. But what is the lilac, I mean what variety is it? is it S. 'Palibin' perhaps.I have to wait a few weeks still before I can repot, have still snow and ice on the ground, but all I need for repotting has been bought.

I have read that Little princess naturally grows out sideways and has a weak crown and so it is recommended not to hard prune the apex. Do you have any experience of this? I have what I hope is going to be a quite nice Little princess with good radial roots but I am a bit scared to reduce it in height. Any advice?

I have heard you mention that your trees spend the winter outside in the garden. What is your growing zone? I am always afraid my bonsai have been made too fragile to survive our very cold, very long winters. What is the deciding factor risking it?
