A hip-hop legend in his own right, Lord Jamar stopped by VladTV for another unforgettable interview discussing contemporary issues in the culture. This time around, DJ Vlad and Lord Jamar dissect Jay-Z's newest album, 4:44 and the backlash it has received. Vlad crowns HOV as one of the first to ever rap about generational wealth in the hip-hop community as he and Lord Jamar discuss the now infamous "money phone" and ways in which the black community can accumulate wealth. djvlad great interview keep interviews with lord jamar
Master P been talking about generational wealth for years, smh.

soulja soulja tell me how u do it..r.i.p soulja slim
I love P but dont be comparing his rapping to JayZ my nigga, thats crazy talk
make em say ughh!!!
Kalief Hampton he talking bout subject matter genius you dont need to write a rhyme to do that stop reaching
"Get my daughter this college plan.......so she wont need no man" - Christopher Wallace
Do ya homework Vlad
Jordan Clemons I get what you're saying but it's not really the same thing....salute tho
Jordan Clemons vlad don't kno shit about hip-hop. He do research before the interview. He says it alot. he listens to punk rock
It is though. Vlad only highlights what essentially is wrong in rap and hiphop music, this isnt any different imo. What I got from that Big line was more than just being a father trying to raise an independent woman, because of the bars that came after it....."Stay far from timid, only make moves with ya heart in it..... and live the phrase sky's the limit"
Prodigy: YBE-Young Black Entrepreneur! Classic inspiration.
R.I.P Prodigy.
You wanna know what's better than throwing away money at a strip club.....? Credit 😂
Biggie and Nas have both made records talking about generational wealth. Here are a few examples.
Biggie: Sky's The Limit (verse 3)
Nas Ft Kelis: Not Going Back (verse 2)
"Put money in my moms hand. Get my daughter this college plan, so she don't need no man."
- Biggie, Sky's The Limit - 1997
Generational wealth is not a new rap concept.
Wu tang too
"...how many Biggie's rhymes gonna come out your fat lips..." - Nas, Ether 2001
True but jay z really focused on the topic
Yeah thats the 1st thing i was thinking.
Raysaun Jones #Wrong it’s college plan
I had this playing in the car while driving my white 75 yr old father to the store- he was lovin it, jamar had him crackin up.
If Jay-z said holding money to your ear is stupid. Listen. He been living life in financial success since 1996. He been having the best of anything can buy for years. He knows what he's talking about. Secondly, on some rap ish. He's a veteran rapper. So if he called you out on the money to your ear thing be greatful. #1 he cought his radar.
#2 he respects you as an artist.
#3 he got enough love for you to correct you because he sees something in you and wants you to be better.
Andre 3000 rapped about generational wealth in "Hollywood Divorce"
Jamal Robinson 1 of the Greatest Collabartion of all time
Lord Jamar Got me thinking on that 'Financial Freedom' vs "Freedom in the mind"
Exactly! All due respect to the repliers of this segment of the interview speaking on generational wealth. However, one point they all missed and /or did not touch base on and that is, we really dont own anything! Especially as black/brown people! Why ? Well for one thing, unlike other groups/races, they have International Backing, Black folks do not!!!! We are not worldly respected especially in the great USA. So as Jamar said, there's a certain point financially you will reach and you will be cut off! Think about Michael Jackson, Bill Cosby, other black entrepreneurs whose deaths til this day are ruled suspicious! Tulsa, Oklahoma and Rosewood, Florida! Rosewood wasn't just about the white womans lie, it was also a trigger/excuse to destroy a black built town doing better than a poor white town( Untold Story) . So we as black people have to be grounded about this generational wealth effort yet illusion! In basic terms, there is no such thing as FINANCIAL FREEDOM!
Generational wealth was mentioned in Hip Hop before...
Quote "My seeds run with his seeds marry his seeds that's how we keep Wu-Tang money all up in the family" -Ghostface Killa
Nipsey hussle preach about ownership of business .
freedom comes in the mind let's go
Nobody talks to e40 he been talking family and generational weath for 20 yrs
The only *TRUE* freedom we will ever have on earth is spiritual freedom, with everything else we are slaves
200% agreed musicman! That's a point that I address all the time! Unfortunately, most of our people become very offended and defensive when those words are stated! I'm with you all the way with that!
People saying Jay Z is doing this because it's a trend or is copying Nas.
1. LIG wasn't the first grown man rap album. The Fix, Be, etc came before it.
2. Jay been talking about stuff like this since RD (Streets school us to spend our money foolish) He coined black excellence on WTT.
Besides Jay told y'all. "Don't fall me youngin, follow my moves"
He may've been rapping about ignorant shit but he came into the game independent. Jay has always lived the things he's rapping on 4:44
Totally agree. There's no such thing as ownership. Cool interview.
Let's keep it funky; There are people talking real shit on albums in modern day; FACTS. Jay-Z is just getting the higher credit because his words reach more people. Just because he's the first rapper you heard it say it because he said it on a mainstream scale doesn't mean he was the first to say it.
yup...i agree..reaching more people...But thats makes its even mo funky bc now 'the message' is actually reaching more people
chy hayes, my point being that Jay-Z is already getting recognition like he's the first to start talking about this when he really just the first to speak to this many at once. Props still due but not as much as what I've been seeing. Let's not call the new bread brand the first piece of bread ever.
Thats whats up ...
DatGreatness at least he's using his position to inspire unlike the garbage that's overly promoted nowadays
you just said funky lol take that L
Vlad please just keep doing shit with Jamar these are classic every time
I love Lord Jamar!
Lord Jamar = TRUTH
Lord Jamar, I am so joyed that you're on this earth. I really enjoy your discussions with Vlad. I have watched many of them, and I can only say I wish I could sit down and soak up more of your thought process. You truly are a wise man. That said rest assured that at 22 years old, as an Puerto Rican African American, I can assure you not all millennials have dropped the ball and are fully aware of what we need to do to unite our people. We simply need more time...
That's not freedom, freedom is in the mind let's go. -Lord Jamar- Very powerful.
Message!!!🤣🤣🤣
DEFINITELY a lot to think about and pull from in this interview! You can't not mess with this interview!
Great information! Thanks Lord Jamar
"Do you listen to music or do you just skim through it" - JAY-Z
Jay is the first rapper to talk about generational wealth, who is actually going to reach a BILLION! That is historic in Hip Hop!

amen, Lord Jamar!
Always felt that way about "financial freedom"
Lord Jamar is so REAL its funny
Jay-Z isn't to first talk about generational wealth. Andre 3000 spoke on generational wealth in his verse on Hollywood Divorce.
The OG spoke and most still won't understand
Love this👌
We fuck with Lord Jamar
I'm from the south and we put Jay music in a category of old Jay-Z or new Jay-Z. "I don't pop molly, I rock Tom Ford." Jay is not wrong for that line
💖 Lord Jamar😏
Its one thing to talk about generational wealth and its another thing to see it being done . Jay Z is just putting words to the actions we've already seen him do. The painting thing was interesting bc I heard about people talking negative about him buying it but in his album he explained why.
Preach 💰💰💰💰💰
you naw aaammsaayyiin....never gets old
Financial freedom is not bullshit... i respect lord jamar but he should read powernomics by Dr claud Anderson
Who dat
Preach Jamar preach!!! Freedom comes from the mind! Satan is the system, he is not flesh!! Jamar was talkin that talk ✊🏾
SUPER FACTS!!!
🤣 @ 0:06 Lord Jamar with the "yas bitch" face.
Without cultural, spiritual and international connection amongst the black race, currency/money will not do us any good in the long run! Unfortunately, we really do not OVERSTAND this!
That shirt nice cold af
Vlad always gotta mention him and his stocks...
Financial freedom gives you the time and space to become free in the mind

Fuccin love LJ! Freedom is in the mind! Fuccin beautiful💯
Lord Jamar is speaking some real shit!
The way Jay-Z put it, it confronts the common culture more directly than when other rappers have talked about generational wealth. That's what Jamar was lookin' for there.
salute to my 5% brother peace god peace...
Lord Jamar your thinking of Wu Tang Clan. They definitely have a couple songs with lyrics talking about giving wealth to their kids."My seeds, marry your seeds....keep Wu Tang money all up in the family." Theres other ones too
This guy speaks sense
We got to build dynasties
vlad must have never heard Outkast's "Hollywood Divorce." Andre 3k baby
Free is a lining with the universe
the day I see warrant buffet do the money phone ill sign up for that shit.
Get Jamar and Jay Morrison together to discuss financial freedom
He right im at work listening lol
That is a 2-ton JEWEL Lord Jamar dropped about "ownership". Ya'll REALLY need to do the knowledge on that fa sho!
Wu tang said "my seeds, growing his seeds, marry his seeds, that's how we keep wu tang money all up in the family" they said first
Nas said “and If i should die, I know all of my albums support her” speaking on his daughter
Vlad Jay is not the first rapper to talk about generational wealth wtf is wrong with you. Clearly you've never heard of Nas ..
I thought Nas killed Jay a longtime ago
The Realist Jewels!
"Yanna Mean?" - Lord Jamar
"We touching mad people" AYO.
Mind freedom is first but u gotta get money free as well money ain't happiness but not paying the bills is torture
Love this nigga man
Jay Z is not the first rapper to speak about generational wealth and leaving something for your children to have a foundation to build on. Come on man. Tupac been speaking on that shit since he was 19 years old but y'all didn't want to hear him!!!
I get it though. I guess someone has to say it to this new generation if their parents aren't.
Hardest line ever
Ya'll on the GRAM (instagram, telegram) holding money to your EAR theres a DISCONNECT we dont CALL that money over here damn...
"Get my daughter this college plan so she don't need no man" -Biggie
You nata mean!!
The end of this interview is ridiculous. Free is in the mind. but you can be free in your mind and locked up in fail, on the streets or unemployed. Financial freedom is merely being able to live within your means and unforeseen circumstances. You leave your house and you car doesn't start, you lose your job, a tree falls on your roof, you break your legs... having the ECONOMIC stability to survive the unexpected should be everyone's goal. Jamar out here using 1922 as a reference for 2017. There are areas in america RIGHT NOW with high black middle to upper-class populations whom are all wealth. People are literally moving there to be around such people. If you have a defeated mindset you prepare for a life of loss.
Money isn't the answer for everything- but if you live in a capitalist system it is the answer to a lot of things! AND it will make your life a lot easier- if you aren't a slave to commercialism. Jamar gives too many excuses for people to remain ignorant of how they can better themselves and their children.
I see your point however what Jamar is adding is that you have to have an inner balance first! Mental, Spiritual! Physical is last because again all this including the point you're making can come and go at ANYTIME!
That's not ignorance! Actually, because of this principle not being practiced, we(blacks) have and are becoming our worst enemy regardless of so-called status &wealth! What do you think?
again, speaking nothing but TRUTH
Salute to da book phone
TRUE.
The most seminal joint since the Message by Grand Master Flash (look it up young un') is Brother Ali's Uncle Sam Goddamn. Hip hop in it's pure form.
True
Vlad giving that to jay z. Generational wealth. NO. Jay z not the first. Plus Nas give a lot of his credits to his daughter. Which is a bigger statement of generational wealth. Man Vlad stay hating on Nas.
Jay z was wasting money in the late 89s early 90s like the rest of us...he jus learning at 56... hopefully u'll learn at 23
Lord j shoulda kept the dreds.
Larry Jones better late than never... The real issue is why is rappers in the 20s not saying the same thing that Jay Z is saying they're telling you to mix Molly and Percocet....
More emcees with a high position in the game should see this album as an example instead of all the criticism (which is usually a defense mechanism or reflection of guilt )
