      @@JJ-nh1in thanks! To be honest I was initially grossed out by it because of the reputation, but I started researching after my brother came out as a furry. Nothing leads to acceptance like education does, and it's truly impressive what this community creates. I've found most furries to be very wholesome people who just want to cosplay as cute animals.

    Watching the way she makes the arms on the suit just fills me with rage again at the teacher of the cosplay course I took, who managed to convince me that I didn't need a full DTD for my suit, just the legs because "oh they're the only ones with padding and making a full DTD would probably be too tiresome".
    But BECAUSE I didn't make a top part, I ended up with arms that I almost can't move at all, and once I'm done fixing a different part of the suit, I'm gonna have to fix those arms and it might lead to me having to add a new piece that'll have a visible seam because of of the short fur. Not to mention I was struggling a long time with patterning the top half anyway because I didn't have a DTD to base it on.
    So not making a full DTD only gave me MORE work in the end, not less! AND it made my fursuit worse than if I'd just gotten to do the right thing the first time
    TL;DR: *Make a FULL duck tape dummy when you do a fullsuit! Don't listen to anyone who tells you it'd be a waste of time! They're very very wrong!*

    • @TapperPlushMom
      @TapperPlushMom 3 роки тому +18

      Actually, the TL;DR is "Make a full duck tape dummy when you want to make a fursuit, whether you plan on making a fullsuit at that moment or not - you never know when you're gonna want to take those paws and grow a fullsuit for them."

    • @crikeycricket6616
      @crikeycricket6616 3 роки тому +13

      A cheat code for dtd's I've found is to do a full one but only do the torso and limbs on one side, I did this and just flipped the pattern pieces.
      NOTE: Can be confusing if you don't have a symmetrical character.

    • @TapperPlushMom
      @TapperPlushMom 2 роки тому +18

      @@crikeycricket6616 I like this idea, and I'll use it, but I have one suggestion to add to it: make sure you know which side is your dominant side, and have that be the side to duck-tape.
      The reason for this is actually kind of interesting. After a few rounds of my left wrist feeling utterly constricted by my sweatshirt sleeve, but my right wrist was perfectly fine, I measured them. My left wrist - my dominant side - is just barely bigger around than my right.
      Apparently, because of the sheer amount of use one puts into their dominant side, that side can be larger and/or more developed. The difference could be a single centimeter, but that centimeter can mean a lot.
      In conclusion, if you're only going to make half a dtd, tape the side that's larger. Having one side be a tiny bit loose is *way* better than having one side be too tight.

    "I don't trust my sewing machine not to eat it" I FELT that :') I started making plushies recently and my pieces are so small that I decided pretty early on that it's just better for my mental health to do most of my seams by hand

    • @Love4everFree
      @Love4everFree Рік тому +14

      There's a solution to this!!! If you have teeny tiny pieces you're afraid of getting sucked down into the machine especially at the beginning and end of a seam, grab some tear away stabilizer or coffee filter paper and place it under the pattern pieces. Doesn't need to line up with anything, in fact you kind of want it to NOT line up. Have enough of it on all sides of the needle and seam to keep things from getting pulled into the machine. Works WONDERS!!! Especially with slippy stretchy minky fabrics!

  • @triangleshiny

    if you're interested, you could look into pad stitching to avoid using hot glue around the wing area. it's a tailoring stitch for attaching interfacing to the fabric it's stiffening, used in things like coat lapels and suit collars and other areas that need a lot of reinforcement to stay stiff. done right, it's invisible from the good side even on non-piled fabrics. (this is not meant to be rude or condescending! it's just something that came to mind when you explained the wing reinforcement).
    also those belly plates look really good! i mean the whole suit does, but the idea with the velcro covering the zip is a really cool way of doing it.

      I mean from what I have seen its rarely condescending to suggest things you know that might help, I have a friend that does this and I'm always shocked by how much stuff she does do because she doesn't know about it.
      For example, she was making a head and I asked why she used hot glue instead of something like spray adhesive, figuring it melted the foam or left a smell or something, the answer? "What's spray adhesive?" Apparently she tried it and it works well, lol, the more you know.

    All the different points & elements made perfect sense and idk why some other makers don’t do that.

    15:26 I'm glad I didn't throw my tail pattern away because I had a stars on each side of his tail, and later used the same size star on his chest, which is great so I don't have to print it out again. And, his tail is 2 different colors (green on one side blue on the other) and I accidentally made the green facing the same way as the blue, so I had to redo it, and keeping the pattern helped me a lot

  • @breadlizard6459

    I loved this tutorial! I always enjoy your tutorials and suits! Very similar to how I do my bodysuits. I feel like the bodysuit is somewhat easier than the head, but they do take forever tho lol. Heads I feel have more detail work, but it depends on design complexity too.
    I do really think seam/marking placement is super important. Its like a strategy game from my experience. Basically, trying to have the smallest amount of seams possible, but also not skimping on markings or making sure the pattern lays flat.
    My recent suit I made was slim digi but I used leggings with foam attached to make the padding (covered the bare foam with lycra too). Also my feet aren't boots or zippable (yet, next suit I plan on zipped feet). I definitely wanna try this again with just thigh pillows and boots/zippers like you did. My boy I finished is kinda complex (spots in some places omg my poor hands) but not even close to Nanashi in this lol.
    I totally wanna try doing the method with the belly scales as I am remaking my main dragon sona's suit and he has belly plates/scales. I thought about doing something similar with batting and minky, but had no clue how to do a zipper on it. I think I am gonna use short fur (even though he has scales only) for him this time instead of fleece like Blaze 1.0. Also, I have always been curious about how you make your backpack wings go through the bodysuit. I also used the method for bias tape as at first I was like "uhm ok how do I do this" and Mugiwara's vid saved me lol.
    Sorry for such a long comment. I love giving feedback/disccussion on bigger videos!
