Flamuu’s actually a pretty chill guy on stream and his streams are very enjoyable,people call him toxic because he doesn’t stand for anyone’s bullshit and hates incompetence.He’s said himself that he’s more of a twitch channel than youtube channel thats why he doesn’t review ships much anymore.He cares about his community(and takes measures to inform and help those who ask) so i would really appreciate if we could all stop calling him toxic and ragebait as it doesn’t really prove anything and just causes more negativity in the community,I get if you don’t like flamuu,but that doesn’t mean you have to insult him.Finally all and all i dont think people should be going to other content creators channels to spout hate about another content creator,just appreciate and talk about the content creator you enjoy/watch.thank you

Got it 2 days ago. Having the heal (yes, it’s not a mino heal) makes you stay in games where you should’ve been dead. Having both DM and Salem, I think I have more fun with DM in randoms hunting dds and with Salem, having it for 2 days, I have nearly 100k xp just playing ranked. Yes, you don’t tank those high caliber bbs too much, but it’s super fun anyways. Getting close and nuking a Petro or anything with lower dpm is just amazing.

Thanks for starting this series! A bit of feedback with putting charts on the screen - it might be a little easier to digest if you limited the charts to a 'next nearest 2' style. Have the review ship in the middle, between better 2 above and worse 2 below. eg a ship rank 7th in a given metric:
...
5th: NEXT NEXT BETTER SHIP [bar graph]
6th: NEXT BETTER SHIP [bar graph]
7th: REVIEW SHIP [highlighted bar graph]
8th: NEXT WORSE SHIP[ bar graph]

or alternatively if it's important to give an indication of where it sits within the scale as a whole, perhaps replacing the first and last in the comparison to being the global best and worst. Same example but in this style would look like:

7th: REVIEW SHIP [highlighted bar graph]
8th NEXT WORSE SHIP [ bar graph]

Might help cut down on the amount of displayed information, whilst still providing a viewer enough information to give a decent comparison to the field (it's ranking, the raw figures and a comparison to it's closest rivals or best/worst in class). Hope it makes sense!

I too have Salem. Great ship. Something I didn't hear you mention is the insane shell type switch speed (with John Doe admittedly). Less than 1 sec (config below). And yes. The radar is a joke. But, the Hydro with Mod 1 (17k coal) puts your duration out at 132 sec. Which is 2 min 12 sec. Pretty helpful with annoying torps around. Anyway, I am running John doe: GTG, GF, CE, AR, HAS, SI, TGG, and OUTN. As for equip: DC mod1 (coal), Hydro mod1(coal), Aim sys mod1, Propul mod 1, Conceal mod1 and Main batt3. I will most likely get DM. I am through the Buff. But have been working RB. Something to remember about Salem vs DM, since it is coal, it comes with perm camo and thus the economic percs. As well as sharing captains with other premiums. Maybe a small thing, but a heavy Coal/Priem focus leads to long term benefits. Currently, I have 1.5 bill cred. Mainly due to Coal etc ships. I don't buy ships either. Just food for thought.

That Heal is a blessing in disguise when having a DPM fight with other Crusiers, Just pop one when the fight starts and you would minimize dmg taken by a huge factor, i play salem in a brawl this way and this method have saved me almost everytime !!!

My favorite secret to the Salem brawl is a ramming flag plus the heal being able to heal 100% of ramming damage. Allows you to get away with some stupid stuff.

Salem Vs DM, it comes down to your play style. If you really like to sit behind the islands and hide all game, get the DM. If you like to push up when the time is right and smash some ships, get the Salem. It allows you to be more aggressive.

Clanmate of mine has both DM and Salem and he says the same thing about the heal: it's not as impressive as it looks, and that makes the DM the better ship. It has more utility.

Got the Salem when she came out and was the only coal ship, so it was not even really a decision between ships to get her.
I don't have DM, but i think the heal is really nice in ranked, where 1v1 against cruisers happen more often and the distances are low enough to make use of that radar.
Overall I'm disappointed in every game i play, about how useless the heal is in most cases and yet everyone still says it's the British cruiser super heal on every reddit "what coal ship should I get?' post.

@@anidiot2818 Well the heal is great... if you wanna heal fire damage. I don't know the exact difference between this and for example the Mino heal, but Mino does heal a fair amount of AP dmg.
I play DM a fair bit, and I've wondered how much more survivability Salem really has, but I've never wanted to risk all that coal just to find out she wasn't worth it. 😄

This thing is fantastic. One of my first games was playing her in ranked. A Stalingrad and a Moskva decided to push into a cap that i was parked close to, showing me broadside. I then deleted both of them, with something like 15 + citadels. I unfortunately died quite quickly too, but within 3 or 4 Minutes or so i did 120k damage. That was the moment i was absolutely sold on this ship :D

The Salem was my first Coal ship. I enjoy playing it but I haven't figured out the angling nuances.... I get wiped usually. Doesn't stop me from playing it, though.... I have fun with it. Every once in a while I have a surprising game... that's what keeps me coming back to it

I've only had the ship a couple days now and so far only been able to play with Rando's and have been left defending against multiple ships. But Salem holds her own. Especially when hugging an island. Such a fun ship. And if you have a team that will back you up it will cause so many openings and push opportunities.

Moskva might be better if you already have Des mo, if you prefer more angling, crossfires and a bit of a longer ranged play style. If you like freisland you may also enjoy the forest Sherman which is coming out soon. It looks to be similar but with sap instead of AP.

Salem's different enough from legendary mod Des Moines to be worth it IMO. You trade the wiggle for the heal. I still prefer Des Moines to the utility it brings (hydro + radar) and it's ability to move around islands easier.

Interesting review, you need to do something about that Giant Wall O'Text (tm) at the 5:53 mark though, maybe with some kind of intro 10-15 seconds beforehand to the effect of 'sidenote GWOT incoming, pause if you want to read' and then leaving it up for 2-3 seconds instead of .5.

Hydro Salem > Radar Salem. As you say, the short range radar fools you into over-committing and getting yourself killed. With the hydro you can safely chase down DDs and delete them in seconds with your monster HE output.

I got Salem as a lucky drop from one of those Gibraltar containers and don't have the DM yet. Now I doubt I have to continue the grind? Yes I'm tanking far more than I'm known to and it often surprises the enemy because they don't change position assuming you die in time but you don't. But hell the radar range and firing range are a handicap. But once I get close enough this thing deals in any way 50k minimum no matter how badly you or your team fcked up. Very enjoyable overall.

Salem is a good ship because she's basically a Des Moines. However, because she is basically a Des Moines I think you are better off grinding for Des Moines and using the coal you get while grinding for a different ship with a different playstyle. Salem costs 150 days worth of resource containers and daily mission coal, less if you have the clan's upgraded coal port and a coupon. Still takes way longer than grinding the USN cruisers to tier 10.

another advantage of the Salem over the Des Moines is that the Salem has access to destroyer Damage con, which is a nice advantage in these nose to nose fights trying to knoch each other's guns out. Also the super heal prevents the need for healing flags, since you cant use the full potential of the super heal anyway.

Salem is definitely one of my favourite ships in the game. Yes, the radar on it isn't the greatest and you don't always get full use out of your heals, but the rate of fire and dpm alone definitely make up for it.

I dunked on a Marceau, Puerto Rico, and Napoli at the same time in my flank and still won. The superheal is a godsend when trying to brawl other ships. DM and Salem can even outgun BBs because of their extreme DPM potential.
I have a new found respect for the American Heavies. Now that I have played them, no way I am engaging in CQC with these guys because I know I can just get dunked on.

Salem is a niche ship, it shines when you are getting HE spammed, you literally can absorb the damage and heal at the same time.
I can see Salem will absorb a lot of secondary damage from Schlieffen and might kill schliefen.
Better get Des Moines, better sibling and has access to the best Unique Upgrade

i once fought Salem in my Minotaur when bowing in, the salem also did the same, we both tried to destroy each's other guns but i won XD, he broke my no.2 turret and i broke both of his bow guns, after that i just torped him lol

Ok, dumb question here, PQ talks about the HE pen and DPM, but he is shooting AP in almost all of this video... so AP is really the way to go, but you can burn down angled ships with HE correct? I got Salem out of crates this Christmas, and I do have to say I prefer DM over it to begin with. DM's far better in terms of utility, and now knowing that the heal isn't even as good as I thought it was (I thought it was similar to the Mino heal, if not the Goliath's) just tanks Salem further in my eyes. Honestly, I think legmod Des Moines is a far better investment than Salem ever is.

Hard to say as it all depends on your playstyle. I have both and have the D.M. I don't find the Napoli that exciting and I like the Salem but because I have the Des Moines, I could live without it. I don't have it but hear (from my clan mates) the Carnot is a pretty good cruiser with strong AP. All of this is very subjective as one person will tell you one thing and another something else. I really wish Wargaming allowed us to "rent" a ship for a day...or even a couple battles to see if we like it. You may want to wait to see what other coal ships they bring in this year. Best bet is to watch video's on the ships your interested in...however if you watch Potato Quality (or guys like him), they all look OP....LOL. Good luck on your decision.

I'm gonna give a bad critic of it, but while the format is perfect and the so are the graphs to explain the ships, the ships covered right now are ships we know (Salem, Marceau) of their capabilities.
Also another argument that could be made for people who want to buy it is well, she still exist up to this day (in pretty terrible shape, that I do admit, but still)

bris is a totally different playstyle then Salem or Mosk.
mosk and Salem are DPM alone ships
Bris you get 34244 torps to drop each side as well
