This is a species of myriophyllum. Parrots feather is a common name for plants from this genus. There are some kinds that are invasive and some that are native to the us. It changes dramatically when it grows emersed so it is may be confusing to identify. It's hard for me to be certain from the shots in the video but I think it's myriophyllum spicatum.
I think it's milfoil, which is related to horn wort so it's hard to tell. Parrots feather is definitely a different plant than the milfoil I have had experience with. Maybe I have them mixed up but that definitely looks like milfoil to me. Milfoil also grows in huge patches like I saw in the collecting video.
I've got that same type of plant I think... and i have identified it as parrot feather.. my hornwort won't have any roots from stem and what I think is the parrot feather will have roots coming of the stem. So i am not entirely sure either, but its just my observation on what it is. I will have to shoot a video to let you see.
I'm sure you figured it out long ago but that's 100% millfoil. Looks just like the stuff I have which I got from our lake. Eurasian milfoil that invaded
Definitely a milfoil species. The eurasian variety is invasive, and there are native american milfoil species. I just read today that you can count the needles on one side of a leaf. Eurasian Milfoil has 12 or more needles PER SIDE of the leaf. American have less. Seems legit...
From my personal experience most local aquatic plants dont last due to melt...........es[pecially Anarchis. Parrots Feather is a decent one t Immersed or Emmersed make a huge differene in longevity.hough.
I didnt have luck with it at first at all, but I recently collected more and its booming. I know that elodea canadensis hates warm water, so try it unheated

Parrots feather grows up in still bodies of water but in fast flowing water it stays under water.
A still lake is where I got it.
Thanks for the education :)

I use that word heterophyllous at least 5 times a day.
Super cool stuff I want some haha 👍✌️
Do the fish eat on it ? Im still looking for a good water/floating plant.
I'm assuming they'll destroy it, but we'll see.
@@DanHiteshew-oneandonly Please let me know.. The water lettuce rotted and stunk ? Maybe too much light ? Not enough nutrients ?
@@FreeSwimmer Not sure. Mine always "melted" when I tried water lettuce.
i'm going out again today to get more plants, so we'll see how it goes.
@@DanHiteshew-oneandonly Im thinking Frogbit ?
@@FreeSwimmer Sure. Why not?
Hornwort is definitely rigid like it almost hurts to touch....
Just plant some of it outside the water and it should give you what t looks like when it grows
Milfoil, parrots feather or feather fern, is blueish like a blue spruce. Hornwort is more green with reddish tint,
The fact that those silver dollars haven't ravaged those plants yet intrigue me!
Me too.
Good video. 📺👍😎

This stuff grows up at my cabin and it’s not hornwort cause that grows up there too and I have enough to know
It grows like 20 feet tall from the lake floor
Yeah, it comes way up out of the darkness below, which is pretty deep in clear(ish) water.
Dan Hiteshew exactly

I tried the acachris before when I was new and excited by everything, and new had luck with it either. It always melted.

@@donovanjones8838 I got it from water well into the 90s. It was like bath water. (another reason I wasn't worried about Ick)
Anarchis leaves will shed in your tank making it look like Broccoli Soup............upi`ll see! :)
Same for your hygrophila, it too is heterophyllus.
Cute painted nails
Just one. Lol
@@DanHiteshew-oneandonly you should paint them all. it looks good on you. ;)
@@mikekirk4837 Lol Thanks.
