Your mastery of the drums is very impressive. You made that small drum set sound so huge. Bravo. As to mishaps during a performance, I suffered a mishap onstage while opening a show. I play tenor saxophone. My job was to play the song Solitude and get off the stage, disassemble my saxophone and pass it to the actress who was using it as a prop. The night before, an actress who had to play my saxophone, whom I taught her to play one song (The Lion Sleeps Tonight), damaged the reed and it had to be changed. After an hour of saturation, I was ready to go. But, I made a miscalculation and I struggled. The audience laughed and thought it was part of the show. My training in acting told me to roll with it and never let the audience know that I was in trouble. Never let them see you bleed, as they say. I walked out so pissed off, I wasn’t thinking straight. I played again, the next night and it was a lot better. Lesson learned. I wish you much continued success on your musical journey.😎👍🎷✌️
9:22 : "The Immigrant Song" chorus - brass version, interpolating the ending of the "Theme from Shaft?" And I love the "non-traditional percussion" portion of the show, where you are on the other side of the kit. You're probably one of the ideal crew members that the cruise lines appreciate a little more than those who constantly complain! (And yes - being able to read notes makes you invaluable!)

Come on internet idiot please enlighten us with your drum skills .Please upload your drumming videos!!!
Yes. You are correct. He is adequate enough to get by in multiple genres. Isn't good enough to be a signed musician in any one of them. As for my playing, I'm a total Neanderthal heavy metal drummer. I've been in enough bands and on enough albums were I have nothing to prove anyone. I never claimed to be good in multiple genres. I stick with what I do best.
Mucho Gusto He is absolutely good enough to be endorsed, signed and successful. Many inferior drummers have gotten away with much more. His rhythm is on point, he can read music, his dynamics are solid, he can improvise, chops are clean and he has an ear for/plays to the music. You really can’t ask for more than that in a drummer. Not to mention he appears to be about 24-26 years old, tops. He’s well in his prime and has an apparent enthusiasm that would lead me to believe he’s pushing his ability further all the time. I understand it’s your opinion but I strongly, and respectfully, disagree.
many drummers can't play even a single thing cause being on a vessel and living there kills their motivation. but you are so positive that nothing can beat you. being on the sea is not easy.
The guests in the crowd at 16:15 were amazing. Thanks for this video. It sure is cool seeing behind the scenes from a cone like me :) Keep up the videos and good luck in your contracts!

I used to want this gig when i studied at a music college and thought i'd do it after my non music degree. I don't know how you'd possible get back to a standard like this after 5 years away from playing stuff like this. So impressive.
Hi David, I from Turkey. Your drumming is top notch, your fills are great and your technic is flawless. Any suggestion to a new drummer? Which paterns to study?
Once upon a time I swore up and down that I was going to be a drummer on a cruise ship...then I found out you have to know how to sight read😟. So now I'm going to live vicariously through these videos. Keep them coming!😃
Stick 15 minutes of sight reading into your daily routine, to start. You'll eventually get hooked. If you don't have a daily routine, do that, to start. It just takes repetition, and opens up many avenues in gigs, your musicianship, and creativity. It won't take long for the basics. If you've ever played something like Rockband, you're partially there.
David, Thank You! My wife and I have been on over twenty cruises and I have always been amazed at well the ship's bands play. Your two vids on how it goes on are fantastic! And while I always applauded the ships band, I will do so even more with a better understanding of what it takes to do what they do. 👍👍👍
I did 5 years on cruise ships, all on P&O based out of UK except one contract for Princess, and this video just brought back all those memories and I have experienced all the things you spoke of in your video. One thing is very clear though, you're a very skilled drummer and worthy to get any pro gig. Excellent playing indeed mate. Greetings from Wales.
*edit. Just seen a more recent video of you touring US with a band Towa Bird. Goes to show that Cruise Ships aren't where great musicians go where they can't hack in in the real world (not my views, but I have heard other people say that) Good on ya, best of wishes for the future.

The best drummer I've ever seen not kidding
You might have yourself a side gig as a film editor! I’m digging the videos.
This guy is amazing. As someone who (after watching this, the best I can describe it as) attempts to play the drums, I was just blown away by everything in this video
This is great! Putting a human touch on music. Awesome!! Thank you for sharing. Cheers!!
i am always amazed at the cruise ship bands. Total pros 🙌🏻
hey David just found your channel today. I worked in the entertainment industry for 19 years working on live plays and shows and I have to say you are a great drummer and performer please stick with it and consider broadway I think your the right type...
Brother ive been playing drums for almost 50years and i play all different types BUT you are unbelievable!!! Your an amazing drummer and i know for a fact most drummers are good at only one type of music but your good at them all,i was totally impressed, you should be playing with the really big names in music!!!
How is it possible that this guy is not endorsed???
He can play a lot of styles but just mediocre at best in each and doesn't really excel in any of them.
@@muchogusto9957 ..I'm a jazz drummer and clearly see he has good chops in most genres of music like any session musician has .. Even at his own admission David is not comfortable in the jazz arena but can adequately play jazz to get him through. ..
Let's see you upload your amazing drum skills .. neanderthal!!
Can we get some links to your stuff maestro?
I have done many many cruises and always impressed with how professional you guys are. Not easy with the boredom that happens.
16:09 Man!!! I really dig it
Maaaaaan. This drummer is phenomenal.
I really loved this video . Outstanding drumming man
That song that started at 14:30 has a killer beat, you were on my man! Great videos!
What a train wreck that guitar player was.....
I like how the bass player turned around so he could grin to his heart's content without the audience seeing it :D
Yes...that singer is a disaster
More like a shipwreck, am I right?
"Guy who tried to play the guitar."
Fixed it for you :)
I think he must own the ship
many drummers can't play even a single thing cause being on a vessel and living there kills their motivation. but you are so positive that nothing can beat you. being on the sea is not easy.
The guests in the crowd at 16:15 were amazing. Thanks for this video. It sure is cool seeing behind the scenes from a cone like me :) Keep up the videos and good luck in your contracts!
Such positive energy. Thank you for sharing.
If you ever are in chicago and wanna do some session drumming, i'd love to have you play on some tunes! You got massive chops and great energy!
You master most of all genres. Great skills. Well done. You certanly will not run out of jobs. Thanks for sharing.
5:00 minute mark: “Longest cymbal swell ever” award 😂 (was that 24 bars of swell? Holy good lord lol) (PS- I know you played what was written, but it was funny to watch that.... you’re playing is amazing BTW)
Wow if every night is like this I bet you'll never get bored. New music every night...
Once upon a time I swore up and down that I was going to be a drummer on a cruise ship...then I found out you have to know how to sight read😟. So now I'm going to live vicariously through these videos. Keep them coming!😃
Of course you have to know how to sight read...
Don't be a dork , start learning.
Learning to sight read doesnt take long to develop
Stick 15 minutes of sight reading into your daily routine, to start. You'll eventually get hooked.
If you don't have a daily routine, do that, to start.
It just takes repetition, and opens up many avenues in gigs, your musicianship, and creativity. It won't take long for the basics. If you've ever played something like Rockband, you're partially there.
So learn to sight read music. You can read English text, so we know you can learn to read. Do it and follow your dream.
You definitely inspire me to get back to reading. The versatility you bring to the table is incredible!! Thanks for sharing!!
lots of respect to you man.. its NOT an easy job what you do... and you do it with energy and groove.. r e s p e c t form a fellow veteran drummer.
David, Thank You! My wife and I have been on over twenty cruises and I have always been amazed at well the ship's bands play. Your two vids on how it goes on are fantastic! And while I always applauded the ships band, I will do so even more with a better understanding of what it takes to do what they do. 👍👍👍
9:57 is that stevie wonder?
I was scrolling to ask that. Probably an impersonator as I don't think Stevie has fell to doing cruise ships.
WOW!!!!!!!! That solo was BANGIN!!!!!!
12:08 Audio engineer runs down the stairs and punches you in the face XD
this is probably my favourite drum video on UA-cam. still unmatched.
very impressive. I always wanted to work on a cruise ship as a guitar player. 21 Hrs to my self.
Goes to show that Cruise Ships aren't where great musicians go where they can't hack in in the real world (not my views, but I have heard other people say that)
Good on ya, best of wishes for the future.
Wow man you're a real pro.
Chops, no fear to entertain and having fun while doing it.... respect!
Stumpled upon this video swimming through drumming videos! David, you just got yourself another fan! Great humor and great drumming!
