A fantastic video of a WONDERFUL place - Akritas. Where did you get the photos from? They are hard to come by, so thank-you for showing them to the world. Greetings and many thanks from Australia!!
@@mellake7052 A couple of weeks ago, the road to Florina from Pisoderi was closed for work so you are forced to drive through Boufi (Akritas). It was my first time exploring the village. The highlight is the old primary school, which has been restored, has the following plaque that reads in Greek and English. The English inscription is below: PRIMARY SCHOOL OF BOUFI (AKRITAS) The school was built during the Turkish occupation, in the period 1908-1910. The expenses and work for the construction of the building belong exclusively to the residents of the village. From 1910-1912 the lessons were held in the Bulgarian language, as the village had joined the Bulgarian Excarchia. From 1912-1995 it functioned as a Greeky Primary School. It is worth noting that in the 1920's and 1930's the school had 500-600 students. The building has two floors. It is 11m high, 26m long, 16m wide, 416 sq.m. and a volume of 4,576 m2. It has 8 large and 4 smaller rooms, as well as a basement which functioned as a kitchen and cafeteria for the students. The building was classified as preserved by the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace (Government Gazette 801/D'/21.11.2000) because: a) it is an excellent neoclassical building of the early 20th century , b) it is a typical example of urban neoclassicism and one of the largest and most important neoclassical buildings in the prefecture, c) typology of the floor plan, the morphology of the building, as well as the aesthetics of its facades make it a very important neoclassical building whose value exceeds its area.
