Thank you so much! I finally passed the RICA three years after failing my first attempt. I took all three subtests at the same time and passed all three because of your videos. I watched them every day and took great notes. Thank you again! Could not have done it without your help. You are helping so many people!
Hey girl I’m in the same boat. How did you study if you don’t mind me asking? I failed 3 times and it’s taken me 3 years to try to pass. And still no luck yet.
Congratulations! I am very happy for your success. I am glad that you liked the resources and that it was helpful in your endeavor. Be proud of yourself first, because all of the credit belongs to you. My very best regards, Chris B.
Wanted to let you know I passed the RICA on the first try. I used your videos and other resources. Thank you so much for your previous videos. To everybody watching, please watch his videos, they help so much!🙌🏾 Good luck to everyone taking the new format!
CONGRATS Neanna! I am very happy for your success, and I am glad that your hard work paid off! I wish you the very best of success and thank you so much for your kind words! Regards, Chris B.
Thank you so much for the time you put into making these videos! I passed all 3 subsets on the first try, and I credit your videos with helping me do that. Truly, thank you!!!
Thank you so much for posting these videos! Just got my results today and I passed all three. Couldn’t have done it without ALL of your helpful videos. You are APPRECIATED!!!
I passed the new redesigned RICA this year, the last subset I found out today, I passed this past month. I couldn't have done it without your videos and resources. I literally have memorized the summary of reading development model and memorized what activities to use for the different needs a child might present. I feel empowered that when I have a student, I can identify their needs and I know of lessons that will help address those needs. Thank you so much!
WAY TO GO EDGAR! I am very happy for you! YOU deserve all of the credit. You studied, you worked hard, and you took the test. All the success is yours. I wish you the very best and happy holidays! CONGRATS!!!!
Hi Dr. Boosalis! I have been watching your RICA videos for years prepping for the exam. I wanted to send many thank yous for providing this resource FREE! I took my exam this week and felt prepared! I was almost excited (ha!) to take the exam and get it over with really, but also because I felt ready... While I anxiously await my results, I just wanted to thank you for your time and dedication with these exam resources! You do such a wonderful job of explaining the concepts. It is as if you were meant to teach! Thank you so so much! I wish you all the best!
I wanted to let you know that I passed RICA on the first try. I passed with 3's and 4's in all the Subtest. All your videos and resources were helpful thank you. Your videos helped so much to have a clear understanding on the topics. Thank you so much. Good luck to everyone who is going to take the RICA
I just wanted to say thank you so much for taking the time to create these videos. They are the most helpful resource I have found as of yet, and I have even paid for other prep courses that weren't informative whatsoever. Your videos are great and your sense of humor helped me get through this laborious process! I really learned a lot. Thank you!
Thank you very, very much! We just adopted a ten year old cat, and she has expensive tastes in treats and toys - we will.spens the $10 on her. I am happy the resource was useful to you. Be proud of your well-earned success!
I just found your videos! I am taking the first RICA subtest on Sunday and the others in June. Thank you so much! I am feeling extremely encouraged seeing everyone else use your videos to pass!
Finally passed all 3 sections!!! Got results on part 2 tonight!! Thanks for all that you do definitely could not have passed without your videos and help for me taking it in 3 parts way easier and less stressful!!!
I am SO happy for you, Lee - congrats, Congrats, CONGRATS! Thank you for shedding some light on the new structure of the test and your experience with it. I am also ecstatic to know that the videos are still helpful, though the structure has changed. My very best regards, and be proud of your success!!
Passed them first try it's 100% due to these videos! I just went through the whoel playlist and then went back over the ones that were a little foggy for me the first time. I had the Ready for Rica book with me but realized it was completely unnecessary (and not near as helpful) with the vids. All were helpful but I have to highlight the practice test and the written response and case studies. Just following the procedures and the lines of reasoning you laid out were invaluable. Thanks for the great help!
Congrats Colin! I am so happy for your success! I am very glad that the resource was useful to you, and that you hard work paid off. It is wonderful that you succeeded on all three subtests, and I commend you for doing so. I wish you the best of success and welcome you to our profession! Chris B.
Just wanted to come back and say I got my results yesterday and I passed all three the first time I took them! Thank you so much Professor, you are amazing!
I am so happy for you, Marina! I am glad that the content is still useful on the newly-designed version! I am thrilled that you were able to pass all three on the first attempt! That is due to your hard work and study! My very best regards, Chris B.
I have been watching your videos for 6 months afraid to take it, but when I realized I had to, I registered and took it in 6 days. I passed on the first try with all 4s in the MC and 3s on the written responses and took them all on one day! OMG!!! THANK YOU!!
I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!! CONGRATS TRIOLA! Your success is momentous. You studied hard, prepared, faced down a fear, and succeeded. I am proud of you for doing so. Welcome to our profession - you e a r n e d it!!!!
Hello! I wanted to thank you for your videos and the time and effort you spent on them. I used your videos to study for the RICA and I passed them all on my first try! So thank you so much:)
I am here to tell you that because of your amazing and insightful videos, I passed all three subtests of the new RICA on my first try and scored 3's and 4's on the written responses. I cannot thank you enough, and from one educator to another, your humor and honesty was a breath of fresh air throughout all the study videos. Thank you, thank you!!
CONGRATS ON YOUR SUCCESS! I also appreciate your kind words very much, and I am happy that the resource continues to be useful to educators and future educators who face these tests. I wish you the very best of success! My very best regards, Chris B.
I had to come back and tell you that I followed everything you said and watched your videos over and over again and I passed. I wouldn’t of been able to do it with out you. I am so thankful for you !!!
I am so happy for you, Lorena. I am glad that you have the test behind you. All of the credit belongs to you - be proud of yourself and your success! My best regards and welcome to our profession!
Dr. Boosalis, thank you SO much for these videos! I received my passing scores this month! Your videos were so helpful in knowing how to apply concepts from study books to the tests. You also do a wonderful of explaining things in more detail than the books are able to. THANK YOU! Seriously, these videos were a huge help.
Dr. Boosalis! I just got the results from the RICA for all subtests and passed. I want to thank you for your humor, guidance, and generous service to all aspiring educators. You're a gentleman, a scholar, and a true saint to all SPED teachers. Happy New Year and, again, thank you!
I am so happy for you, and I am humbled by your very generous comments. Know that you did ther work and you earned every bit of the success. Take care and thank you again. You are very kind. Chris B.
Passed all 3 sections of the RICA on the first try (super proud as I am an English Learner myself). I couldn’t of done it without your videos. Thank you soooo much!!
JOCELYN!!! YAY! I am SUPER PROUD of you too! You studied hard, and your effort paid off. I am so glad that the resource is helpful to you and to others - but all credit goes to you. Congrats again!!
Just coming by to express my immense gratitude for your RICA videos! I was able to pass all subtests on my first try! Studying your videos was a huge help, thank you thank you for all you post.
THAT IS FANTASTIC! Passing on the first attempt is wonderful, and I am so happy that you did so on the newly-designed test! I am glad that the resource is still useful to students, and I wish you the very best of success into the future!
Hi! I just wanted to come and say thank you for all the work you put into the RICA prep videos! I just got my scores back and found out I passed all three subtests! Not only did I pass, but I got fours on all of the free response sections. I don’t think I would’ve done as well if it weren’t for your videos! Thank you thank you thank you!
Congrats, Hanna! I am very happy for your success. Thank you for your kind words, too, though please take all of the credit. Your hard work is what made the real difference. I am just happy that the videos are still helpful to students after all these years. My very best regards for your continued success in our field! Chris B.
Hi Doc, you have helped me pass the CSET's and the RICA on the first try! Believe me, I never thought I'd do this well but your videos/lectures helped me. I studied for 7 weeks about 2 hours a day and it really paid off! Thank you for helping so many of us. Please keep doing what you do:)
Hi Mary Sue - CONGRATS, CONGRATS, CONGRATS! I am very happy that the resource was helpful to you! Please take all of the credit, as you did all of the work! And thank you again for the coffees! We are showering our furry friends with healthful treats and love!
Hi, just want to mention I paid for all three subtest at once. The subtests are given to you in order and are not allowed to skip around. Thank your support.
Just got home from taking the new style test after failing the first one by 5 points (215/220 needed) and I wasn't rushed at all. Maybe I got lucky(ier) and got easier multiple choice questions this time around, but the three distinct subtests was fine. I too watched all your written response vids for all domains and it helped a lot with activity ideas and keyword dropping. In the event I failed one of them I'll do it online next time and comment how that works out.
I hope that everything works out for you! I am glad that the new arrangement wasn't a hinderance. Yes, please let me know how you did - and my fingers are crossed that you find success / success finds you!
Subscribed! I have to pass you on! Everyone should pass you on that knows about your videos, and BTW, the RICA is a sham without your explanations. Why are our colleges not speaking about you? Anyways had to let you know how much we appreciate the attention to detail in your videos. Everyone here should subscribe as well, you deserve it. Take care.
That is very, very kind of you. What I had in mind was that instructors could use the videos and materials for free, so that they could return to the true nature of reading-methods courses. It's probably my fault that more instructors are not using the site, simply because I have no idea how to advertise it nor ask others to promote it. I don't Facebook, Twit, or what-have-you, so that is another limitation of mine. Anyway, thank you again for your kind words. Everone does the best that they can. I do hope that the materials will continue to help students as long as there is a RICA around. My best regards, Chris B.
Took the new test a week ago -- yes it was smokey from the fires, and I had a dry cough the whole time as they did not allow water bottles. When I learned of the new test, I postponed until the first week of the new test. My recollections in no particular order. 1. The 3 tests are independent and each timed separately. You cannot flip back and forth between the tests. 2. Each part costs $57 each, for a total of $171, so I took all three at once. I was a repeat taker, having taken it prior to Covid. 3. On every question, if you wanted to skip it, you had to indicate you would review later -- a mouse click for each question -- and when I went back it was not that simple to go back and click on each question again -- was difficult to just fill in answers at the last minute. 4. I was allowed to take notes and keep them for all 3 tests. I changed my strategy as I read the rules. I did the 3 sections in order. 5. I am glad I took computer glasses because the screen was high, and was difficult to read looking up. 5. The multiple guess questions seemed harder than last time and more involved. I stopped halfway through the M.G. questions to head to the written questions. I did not manage my time well, and got too involved on the first question. The second question, I just hit the suggested word count. I did make some notes during the MG questions. 6. Test 2 I managed my time better. I was able to get through all the MG questions, and had adequate time for the written portions, but used all my time. The computer cut off my period on my last sentence. Note: the keyboard was not as easy as my laptop key board for the "touch" and therefore found myself pounding a little like on an old Underwood. 7. Test 3. Went through MG like butter through hot butter,. I had not looked ahead because it looked like I would have to mark each individual question as a return later question, and that would take time. I wasn't prepared for the instructions on the "return later" but I did not see a quick way to mark them all, "return later" without going through one at a time. I had a good amount of time to outline the answers to the written questions. I exceeded the minimum words but did not exceed the suggested maximum. Did not have any spare time. One issue is they have a timer, and you can take the timer off the screen, which I did and now wish I had not -- too hard to figure out how to get it back. Otherwise you are dependent on a "30 minutes left", and "15 minutes left" warning, or something like that. I felt awful about the test as I drove home. Went to bed at 10 pm and work up at 10 am. Started to feel better about the test. I wish I had spent some more time studying the teacher assessment marks made while the child is reading. I had some weird marks and had a hard time quickly figuring them out. A few more days I felt better. I felt the MG were longer and more involved than before, and therefore took longer . I did not recognize any of the written problems. Results this week. That's all folks. Thank you Dr. C for what you do so well and for your generosity. I award you the AAGG award.
This is incredibly helpful, Roger. Thank you so much for the info. I know that other candidates will benefit from your experience and your suggestions. I hope that everything works out in your favor. Thank you again for sharing your what the new exam is like!
I have now taken the RICA for the 4th time my best score on old one was 216/220 I just got my results for Part 1 and Part 3 Case study and multiple guess and Word Analysis and other short answer question and multiple guess. I took the 3 separately for me was way easier to focus. I just got my results for Part 1 and Part 3 I passed both 4 stars on written portions they combine them together for scoring with plus signs and the multiple guess also scored with plus signs. I got 3 plus signs for multiple guess sections. I focused rewatched your videos for appropriate sections and I never would have made it without you!!! I'll get Part 2 results on Sept 1st!!!! Thanks for helping us all understand.
Also forgot they score each separate test 220 to pass combining the essays together and the multiple guess get scored as well with the plus signs! I highly recommend taking them separately much easier for me to focus and not have to stress for 4 hrs!
LEE! Thank you for the update!! I am so glad that you were successful on Parts 1 and 3, and my fingers and toes are crossed for Part 2 to be all stars!!
Took Subset 1 yesterday. I felt I barely had time to complete the test. I moved around a bit. Then after a few m.c questions I did Assignment 2 the Assignment 1 then finished m.c looking for any info I could use on the short answer questions. Sure enough there were some small useful things embedded in the m.c questions.
Hi Nekisha - Please see this playlist, as it address only the short, medium, and long essay questions: ua-cam.com/play/PLqtE950p5U03zAqyLcAneFbiS0kbarv2b.html I hope that it helps!
LINKS TO PLAYLISTS - UA-cam seems to be eating them, so I'm using Tiny URL. If you encounter problems, please let me know. tinyurl.com/ricalinks You might want to copy and paste the link below into your browser as a work around. github.com/cboosalis/ricalinks/blob/main/README.md
I just failed. I passed subtest 3 awhile back but I just can’t get past 1 and 2. Subtest 2 I missed by 2 points. I requested a rescore. Have you ever heard that working for anyone? I gave it a shot.
First, sorry for the troubles. You can pass this thing - just stay in the game. Here are the handouts that I use in the videos: github.com/cboosalis/ricalinks/blob/main/README.md. Also, it is easier if you watch the videos from the playlists on the first page. I do think having a rescore is worth it, but I have not heard of any scores being changed - it just has not come up. Apologies for the late response. I've had family stuff arise with my mom who is 96.
Hi! I am going to begin studying for the RICA exams and I have heard that this prep is super helpful! I am wondering, is this prep alone enough to pass the RICA or should I also consider using another RICA test prep with it? I have read the comments and people seem to find your videos really helpful in passing but I am wondering if your videos cover pretty much everything on the tests. Thanks for your time and for your videos in helping us achieve our goals :) Cristina
Hi Cristina - I would advise you to use as many resources as possible to prepare for the test, including everything from your methods courses, study groups with fellow students, other peoples' books, etc. I would not recommend relying on only one resource for anything. I wish that I could guarantee that this resource will lead to success, but I cannot. Students do say that the videos are helpful, so that's why I keep it going.
@@distanceprep Thank you! In viewing your video for the overview of reading instruction, I noticed that a lot of the content is similar to the CSET subtest 1 - specifically for the reading, language, literature of the CSET. This makes me feel more confident in taking the test, would you agree that the content is quite similar? Thanks for your time!
Hey Professor B, your UA-cam tutorials came HIGHLY recommended by many! They definitely helped me to get a better grasp on the material than any other. Just took the first subtest and I believe I passed, but was wondering as you had mentioned about the previous format... Are they still "throwing out" some of the multiple-choice questions?
Great question. I am not sure. I read through this document, but I didn't see any mention of the "toss outs." www.ctc.ca.gov/docs/default-source/commission/agendas/2018-02/2018-02-4e.pdf The CTC was upfront about how many multiple choice questions would be given v. how many would actually count on the old version, but I don't see any mention of what does and does not count on the new version: www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/Content/StudyGuide/CA_RICA_SG_obj_RC003.htm.
@@distanceprep Just took the 3rd subtest with the case study, which in my opinion seemed the less challenging of the three overall. I can't say I'm certain I passed all three, but I feel like there's a good chance I did. Will let you know in three weeks. Either way, I really appreciated your dry wit/sarcastic notes (particular shoutout as a yoga teacher to the writing of ONE looking like OM 😭. Do you really practice??) Reminds me of my good friend from Minne. Cheers, -L
@@4Lorenay Thank you so much, Loren, for your kind words. I really appreciate them. Heh - I am completely out of shape. Worse, I have discovered that COVID - 19 meant adding nineteen pounds that I did not need. Maybe I'll start yoga and a diet again sometime, but my sweat pants still fit - so, for the time being, this might become a New Year's Resolution. I wish you the best of success, and I hope that everything goes as well as it should. Regards, Chris B.
What videos of yours would be best to study for each subtest? I know you mention it in this video, but I was just wondering if you had concrete list! These videos have been a game changer. Thank you for these!
Hi Deborah. First, thank you for the compliment. That is very kind to hear. Second, I have not mapped them out but I would say that the the reading instruction videos form foundations to fluency, spelling, and ELs are appropriate for subtest one; vocabulary through comprehension for subtest two; and the "only essay" videos are good for all three subtests. subtest three is mainly the case study, so I have a playlist on just writing case studies. Here are the playlists that I reverence. Reading Instruction Lectures ua-cam.com/play/PLF37AD70E260F17FB.html RICA Short Answers ua-cam.com/play/PLqtE950p5U00JkXFbzUkloBHtFeMCT7KW.html RICA Case Studies ua-cam.com/play/PLqtE950p5U021f4sfABXQpi26ZNuWuAqH.html RICA Multiple Choice Analyses and Essays ua-cam.com/play/PLqtE950p5U03B3etj5iih1xl3XsakvXCm.html Hope that helps, Chris B.
Hi Heidi, I would recommend the first nine for subtest one, along with the videos related to essay writing for the foundations of reading: Short Answer Writing ua-cam.com/play/PLqtE950p5U00JkXFbzUkloBHtFeMCT7KW.html Eventually, you will want to watch this set for the Case Studies on Subtest III. Case Study Writing ua-cam.com/play/PLqtE950p5U021f4sfABXQpi26ZNuWuAqH.html Best of success!
Good question. I think that time will tell, and so will a years' worth of test scores and candidates' success on the subtests. That's as far ahead as I can see at this time.
It is way easier!!! I struggled with the 4 hr exam 3 times could not pass. Watch all of his videos and I would only focus on each section at a time. I took them on different days. Also I think if you happen to use a similar strategy you won't get dinged because they are separate tests.
Paragraphs primarily though I have seen examples from Pearson that allow for steps if it is a lesson planning question. I cover essay writing in separate videos. This playlist should help. ua-cam.com/play/PLqtE950p5U03zAqyLcAneFbiS0kbarv2b.html
THAT is a great question. The answer to your question is most likely buried in the minutes of the CTC meeting. I am intrigued, so I will take a look. Old RICA was 70 questions with 10 toss outs. CSET Multiple Subjects there were 26 questions in a content area and 3 time wasters (1 on subtest 3). Based on the number of questions on the redesigned RICA, I would think that 4 - 5 questions are probably time wasters. That is pure speculation on my part.
On the RICA policy page, under Session Length, there is a link: If you register to take more than one subtest in a single session at a CBT test center, you will be presented with one subtest at a time. Subtests are individually timed and are administered in consecutive order beginning with Subtest 1. After you complete a subtest, you will not be able to return to a subtest. www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/TestView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/CA_RICA_Written_TestPage.html
I empathize with your position, and I would really like to see the validation results for the redesign - but I don't know if even that document would tell me why these time limits were selected. Note that a few candidates have indicated that the new format is doable, and even better in some ways. Time management is essential, which is needless to say, but cannot be emphasized enough. I believe that you will succeed. I really do.
Hi Kaylapse - I really feel bad when students study and do not pass, and I am sure that you are not the only one who has been in this boat. Most people do fine the resource helpful, but nothing is perfect. I can offer some suggestions to you in general since I am not sure what subtest or subtests you took. 1. Write down what you remember about the test, the questions, and the essays. You cannot share this information with me or anyone else, but that is a good place to start when reviewing the material. If you can remember any areas that were confusing or unanswerable, even better - those areas would be a great starting point. 2. Look at your score report carefully. You are looking for the number of stars in each category. I have not seen a recent iteration of the new score reports, but there should be some indication of the areas of the domains that need attention. 3. Ask your credential program faculty for help. I think that it is really the responsibility of your credential program to assist you with test prep, support, etc. My resource is no substitute for a reading-methods coursework or fieldwork in the classroom. 4. Wait until June 2025. RICA is disappearing after that date. A new video assessment will replace it. The announcement is on the link below, along with additional preparation materials if you choose to take the test again. That link is at the bottom of the page. www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/TestView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/CA_RICA_Written_TestPage.html Note, too, that there is also an existing video option already. If you are in a placement now or have access to a K-5 classroom, then maybe you would benefit from that option. I do not have any information about that option, but maybe your reading methodology teacher knows someone who has been successful with the current video option. I do hope that you succeed the very next time, no matter what direction that you choose for the next attempt. I wish you the best of success and the best of luck in your future endeavors. Regards, Chris B. Ph.D.
Hi Gabby, I don't see spelling on the list of criteria on the rubric here: www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/Content/StudyGuide/CA_RICA_SG_CRI_RC003_3.htm. Beyond that, I cannot say for sure. To be on the safe side, I would just begin memorizing phrases for each paragraph, like: The student demonstrates needs in the following three areas: phonological awareness, encoding, and decoding. In short, I would try to be as error free as possible. Maybe someone who has taken the test on the computer can tell us if there is spell check (I doubt it).

I passed each of the RICAs on the first try. Your videos were extremely instructional and helpful, thank you so much!
Congratulations! I am very happy for your success. I am glad that you liked the resources and that it was helpful in your endeavor. Be proud of yourself first, because all of the credit belongs to you. My very best regards, Chris B.

Congratulations! What other resources did you use? Also did you use any books?
First of all congratulations on passing the RICA! what other resources did you use??
Thank you so much for the time you put into making these videos! I passed all 3 subsets on the first try, and I credit your videos with helping me do that. Truly, thank you!!!
Proud of and happy for you!!
Thank you so much for posting these videos! Just got my results today and I passed all three. Couldn’t have done it without ALL of your helpful videos. You are APPRECIATED!!!
I highly recommend this channel. This is the only resource I used to prep for the RICA, and I just passed all 3 subtests on the first try.
CONGRATS!! I am glad that the resource helped and that your hard work paid off!!
Thank you for posting all of the videos, they were extremely helpful and I recommend them to everyone I know.
So nice of you! Thank you!
Hi Dr.
Fingers crossed that everything works out in your favor!! Please send an update. My very best wishes!
I wanted to let you know that I passed RICA on the first try. I passed with 3's and 4's in all the Subtest. All your videos and resources were helpful thank you. Your videos helped so much to have a clear understanding on the topics. Thank you so much. Good luck to everyone who is going to take the RICA
I am so, so happy for you!! Be proud of yourself and the success that you earned!
I just wanted to say thank you so much for taking the time to create these videos. They are the most helpful resource I have found as of yet, and I have even paid for other prep courses that weren't informative whatsoever. Your videos are great and your sense of humor helped me get through this laborious process! I really learned a lot. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
I passed my 3 subtests and got 4/4 on my performance indices for ALL domains! Thank you!
Thank you very, very much! We just adopted a ten year old cat, and she has expensive tastes in treats and toys - we will.spens the $10 on her. I am happy the resource was useful to you. Be proud of your well-earned success!
What other resources did you use?
I just found your videos! I am taking the first RICA subtest on Sunday and the others in June. Thank you so much! I am feeling extremely encouraged seeing everyone else use your videos to pass!
I wish you the very best of success!!
Hi, and congrats on passing!! Did you use another test prep to study for the RICA?
You are very welcome! Remember that you did the work and the studying. I am glad that it paid off for you! Great work!!
Congrats! Thank you so much for kind words! I am so glad that your hard work and study paid off! My best regards, Chris B.
Dr.
Passed all my subtests thanks to you!
It is all due to your hard work. I cannot take any credit. So, Congrats! Proud of you!
Chris B.
Which videos helped you the most?
Thank you for making the subtest playlists
Glad you like them!
Congrats! Did you also use another test prep service to study for the RICA?
Hi, just want to mention I paid for all three subtest at once. The subtests are given to you in order and are not allowed to skip around. Thank your support.
I also wanted to mention time does not roll over.
Thank you for letting people know, since the website doesn't say much or since I last checked.
All your videos are so helpful. Thanks !
Glad to hear that!
Thank you Professor 👍
You are very welcome!
Hi Nekisha - Please see this playlist, as it address only the short, medium, and long essay questions: ua-cam.com/play/PLqtE950p5U03zAqyLcAneFbiS0kbarv2b.html
I hope that it helps!
Thank you so much !!!!!
You're welcome!
Passed subtest 1 this month! 2 more to go!
CONGRATS!!! CONGRATS!! CONGRATS!!! I wish you the best of success on II and III. You CAN do it!!
Thank you for your amazing video. I did well in the constructed response and case study. Would you happen to have any tips for Multiple Choice?

Thanks for your time and for your videos in helping us achieve our goals :)
Cristina
Based on the domain and content areas, there is a degree of overlap.
I read through this document, but I didn't see any mention of the "toss outs." www.ctc.ca.gov/docs/default-source/commission/agendas/2018-02/2018-02-4e.pdf
The CTC was upfront about how many multiple choice questions would be given v. how many would actually count on the old version, but I don't see any mention of what does and does not count on the new version: www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/Content/StudyGuide/CA_RICA_SG_obj_RC003.htm.

Hello! I am taking the rica test next week for the first time! May I ask for any slides that you use for your lecture?
I am sorry for the late reply. github.com/cboosalis/ricalinks/blob/main/README.md
Which videos from your playlist would you recommend I watch that will be helpful to know towards Subtest 1 (Word analysis and fluency) ?
Hi Heidi,
I would recommend the first nine for subtest one, along with the videos related to essay writing for the foundations of reading:
Short Answer Writing
ua-cam.com/play/PLqtE950p5U00JkXFbzUkloBHtFeMCT7KW.html
Eventually, you will want to watch this set for the Case Studies on Subtest III.

Hi Professor, I was wondering, you mentioned the MTEL exam, is that something you recommend to review for the CA RICA exam?
Yes, absolutely. The MTEL reading questions are typical of Pearson test questions.
@@distanceprep Thank you so much. There is just so much to study for the first subtest.
Hi
I'm preparing for the RICA subtest 1. Please send me the link for the videos that focus only on subtest 1.
Thank you

These lessons from 1866 are remarkably useful. ia904709.us.archive.org/31/items/rica-1866-teaching-phonics/RICA%201866%20Teaching%20Phonics.pdf
Do you think it will be more difficult with more multiple choice questions or it may be easier since the tests are separate?
Good question. I think that time will tell, and so will a years' worth of test scores and candidates' success on the subtests. That's as far ahead as I can see at this time.
It is way easier!!! I struggled with the 4 hr exam 3 times could not pass. Watch all of his videos and I would only focus on each section at a time. I took them on different days. Also I think if you happen to use a similar strategy you won't get dinged because they are separate tests.
Thank you for sharing your experience!!
Would you recommend to use paragraphs for the constructed responses? Or how would I format it?
Paragraphs primarily though I have seen examples from Pearson that allow for steps if it is a lesson planning question. I cover essay writing in separate videos. This playlist should help. ua-cam.com/play/PLqtE950p5U03zAqyLcAneFbiS0kbarv2b.html
Hello! I'm not sure if this question was already asked/answered but did you share how many questions were time wasters?
TIA!
Thank you for your response!
You said, "Domain 1" but I think you meant to say Subtest 1. "In Domain 1 is on Word Analysis and Fluency..."
Yes. Apologies for my slip up.
Anyone know if you're able to jump around from subtest to subtest if taking all 3 subtest's in one sitting?
On the RICA policy page, under Session Length, there is a link: If you register to take more than one subtest in a single session at a CBT test center, you will be presented with one subtest at a time. Subtests are individually timed and are administered in consecutive order beginning with Subtest 1. After you complete a subtest, you will not be able to return to a subtest.
www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/TestView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/CA_RICA_Written_TestPage.html
I hope that the above is useful to you.
subtest 1 and 2 are for 70 minutes only.
Wow. They say 75 minutes on the page (1 hr 15 minutes). www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/TestView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/CA_RICA_Written_TestPage.html
Why do they limit the time to an hour and fifteen minutes? That seems really tight (and frankly, unnecessary).
Watched these video and study religiously for weeks, found out that I didn’t pass. Am I the only one? Any tips?
That link is at the bottom of the page.
www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/TestView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/CA_RICA_Written_TestPage.html
Note, too, that there is also an existing video option already.
Regards,
Chris B. Ph.D.
@@distanceprep thank you so much for the tips! I do find your videos so helpful and continue to use them to study!!
If I spell words incorrect will they deduct my points?
Hi, I passed all 3 tests using your videos. Thank you so very much for making these. 🤍
on the first try as well!
