You didn't know it was cutting edge because it was not cutting edge. Everything in this video is in use nearly everywhere in the world. The methods described in this video are extremely expensive, but doable because of heavy subsidy and external funding. Some economies and industries are subsidized by government, both domestic and external, like in this particular case. That just goes to show that with a strong political will and support, even a country with a harsh desert environment can be transformed into a productive agricultural land.
Admittedly, Israel is a special case, though. Forming the political will to create expensive desalination plants, for example, is a bit easier when your neighbors aren't exactly thrilled that you're in their neighborhood & have actually fought wars against you. It makes you realize in stark terms that some forms of self-sufficiency are absolutely imperative. The Israeli arms industry is Exhibit A in this regard.

I'm sure the US could benefit from this, especially with water levels being what they are here, what's taking the country so long to adapt these processes?
Israel has about the same population and size as New Jersey, policies that took Israel over 2 decades(fully recycling plants+desalination plants +high tech maintenance of pipes)and maintenance is different as Israel has only limited number of pipes, few plants that can supply very urbanized close by populations, all of this is much less effective and much more expensive in the US.

Captivating history, the white-sand beaches, the beautiful Mediterranean and cosmopolitan Tel Aviv with a delightfully warm and pleasant climate, unlike chilly London or Paris. 2. Israel may take advantage of increased C02 concentrations to further improve crop production. 3. I am always amazed by the many date-palm plantations around the Dead Sea, in soil that appears to be nothing more than sand, and probably salty sand at that. I heard that Israel is #1 in date production. 4. This may sound silly, but Israeli toilets consume a lot of water. I can't help but be amazed at how much this has even changed since summer of 1977 when I spent the summer working on a kibbutz. Our kibbutz had oranges, apples, cotton, chickens & cows, whereas a friend of mine was up in the north where they grew bananas. At the time they were still using herbicides so we would have to cut the skins off tomatos and cucumbers before eathing them, after washing them throughly. Just the change in 40 years is amazing.

Instead of shade cloth, they'd likely gain more from agrivoltaics, gaining shade from elevated solar panels.
The thing about plants is that they need the sun to grow. Shade clothes reduce the amount of energy coming from the sun, but not block it completely. Solar panels will not do the same
@@bitharothkoff Agrivoltaics panels are usually installed with a motor so they can change the angle and regulate how much sunlight gets through. the other option is bifacial panels that let part of the light through.
@@vitancernjacsubotic3811 cool, I didn't know that existed. Now that I think about it I think I saw a field covered with these

I worked in irrigation in israel for a few years. Didn't know it was cutting edge
You didn't know it was cutting edge because it was not cutting edge. Everything in this video is in use nearly everywhere in the world. The deciding factor on which technique to use by farmers is purely a financial one, and whether it's subsidized or not, and what the market can bear for the crops. The methods described in this video are extremely expensive, but doable because of heavy subsidy and external funding. Some economies and industries are subsidized by government, both domestic and external, like in this particular case. Mega grants are constantly donated from external donors for supporting various Israeli industries, and this is one of them
Small country with bad geography factor but Have very smart people that can fix it

The Negev will one day be a green space that will supply the whole of isreal with most of its agricultural and farming needs.
The isrealis are also experts at water management with the Sea of Galilee project providing most of isreals needs up to present day. Desalination is also a technique widely used as well.
Combined with modern farming and horticultural advances isreal is at the forefront of these fields.
It’s amazing because they were sold “bad land” with no oil and turned it into such a lush prosperous place.
This seems incredible! I would've loved to visit Israel to see how they do it on first hand, if there wasn't a war going on. Revolutionary and quite important initiative due to rising tempratures. These kind of projects will keep middle east a livable region, and not a total deserty wasteland, if it wasn't for constant bloodshed of course. I hope this system will remain sustainable and won't affect the food prices much. I'd like to see it is being applied in other countries too.

Most of the agriculture in Israel isn't in the desert areas and most of the desert is still desert. These are just some marginal areas

I visited Israel and was amazed by the people and how warm and innovative they are! I don’t think most people realize the country is surrounded by very tribal and violent neighbors, and yet the Israelis managed to decolonize the country from the Brits and Ottomans, and make the land thrive. The Jewish and Christian history there is ancient and fascinating!
Imagine what these innovations will do for weed crops. At some point this stuff will get so effective that the plants will just smoke themselves.
First time didn't learn anything from infographics because i work for drip irrigation industry
@@yakov95000 Surely it could be started locally in areas that need it, no? Is the American National agricultural policy that homogenized in such a vast stretch of land and climates?
@@yakov95000 Ok, but this technology would work just fine in the Southwestern US without the need for desalinated water... the important thing is to require drip irrigation and the sensors to know where the water needs to be the most.
