The problem is that setting up that system is extremely expensive for countries that are used to digging a ditch on the hill of a mountain and let the water just pool (as an example)
FYI, "drip irrigation" is not performed by dripping water on the open. That will waste the water through evaporation. The "drips" are actually done with underground hoses that has nanoscale pores placed under the plants root system. So the water will go directly near the roots and get absorbed by root immediately, leave little to evaporation.

But they were a small minority due to mass migrations of Arabs and others into the area during the Ottoman period. They need to make more innovations to desalination. Currently the brine that’s too hard to extract water from is just dumped in the sea. It’s not really a problem now but it can have negative impacts on the food supply (fishing) for Israel.

It sounds like the Israelis are the ideal people to teach the people of Uzbekistan how to bring back the Aral Sea. The Uzbekistanis diverted the rivers that supplied water to the Aral sea for cotton production and caused the Aral sea to dry up. A huge waste of resources. If you havent been to Israel since 1977 its definetly worth another visit. Most parts will be borderline unrecognizable there has been so much added to the country since then. My father who went in the early to mid 80's told me how certain areas in jerusalem that are now huge tourist destinations were nothing more than wasteland when he first visited. It's hard to even believe that in 1948 tel aviv was just a desert and now its a pretty big city.

The key was turning the water supply into a self supporting industry in which people pay for value. If it is free it will be wasted! A mayor should have to think about the cost of the water for his parks or he will flood them with "free" water.

Two years of above average rainfall don't make up for depleted natural water reservoirs. Also, if we save, we can revitalize some of our wetland ecosystems, get the Jordan and other streams to flow. @@burper-oe6tm
It’s the exception and not the routine unfortunately. Having a couple of years of good rainfalls doesn’t mean you solve the problem. Consuming water with care is the way to go for now unfortunately until hopefully a permanent solution can be found.

Israel has a plan to use the desalinated water to refill the Sea of Galilee and to build another tunnel from the sea to refill the Dead Sea (which is evaporating away.)

commifornia will never do it because of 3 reasons: 1. they have insane climate policies which will block actions such as sanitation 2. the state is filled with woke city folks who get their water by taking it from farmers and others who need it 3. there is not a real need for it (at least for the rulers which if you remember, California is a one party state, it won't have a change in leadership and definitely not in ideas)

producing 1 kg of meat does not consume so much more water. you need to take into account that the water consumed is mostly rain waiter. both drunk and used by the plants eaten (if we are talking about cows for example). the animals pee it and gets back in circle. it doesn't disappear. the remaining part is still more than a kg of corn, but can you really compare the nutritional content of a kg of meat and a kg of corn?
The water is also counted in agricultural byproducts like corn husks and stalks that humans cannot eat and those scraps are fed to cows to recycle it. All this about meat consuming too much water is heavily misleading. It's true on paper but in reality it's not a problem. Resource scarcity from production doesn't really happen. If the resource is capable of sustaining anything, humans will find a way to make it sustain more.
If you're referring to land area that could be destined to "better uses" , the fact is that you can't plant whatever you want wherever you want. On most land, only grass can grow easily. Cows mostly eat grass (in various forms). It'd be wasted land if it wasn't used for them

Desalination requires a lot of energy, which makes it too expensive for most poor countries. It also makes it somewhat polluting, as poor countries usually don't create energy from nuclear solar or wind plants. And of course, the distribution - which is relatively simple in a country so small, but not so in larger countries. As far as I'm aware, despite having water issues in the US - they're not planning a federal or even state-level pipeline system (but I might be wrong about that)
no it wouldn't... desalination is actually causing a lot of harm to the environment despite being extremely expensive - just imagine you have saltwater, you extract the water and the salt gets back into the sea increasing salt levels along the coast extremely

FYI, "drip irrigation" is not performed by dripping water on the open. That will waste the water through evaporation.
The "drips" are actually done with underground hoses that has nanoscale pores placed under the plants root system. So the water will go directly near the roots and get absorbed by root immediately, leave little to evaporation.

They need to make more innovations to desalination. Currently the brine that’s too hard to extract water from is just dumped in the sea. It’s not really a problem now but it can have negative impacts on the food supply (fishing) for Israel.

If you havent been to Israel since 1977 its definetly worth another visit. Most parts will be borderline unrecognizable there has been so much added to the country since then. My father who went in the early to mid 80's told me how certain areas in jerusalem that are now huge tourist destinations were nothing more than wasteland when he first visited. It's hard to even believe that in 1948 tel aviv was just a desert and now its a pretty big city.
And not to forget, they invented a machine to draw water out of air by means of deep condensation. They sell these machines now to the Gulf states.

It’s the exception and not the routine unfortunately. Having a couple of years of good rainfalls doesn’t mean you solve the problem. Consuming water with care is the way to go for now unfortunately until hopefully a permanent solution can be found.

Israel actually dedicates a certain percentage of the water to revive or to clean streams, small lakes and so on...
Israel has a plan to use the desalinated water to refill the Sea of Galilee and to build another tunnel from the sea to refill the Dead Sea (which is evaporating away.)

producing 1 kg of meat does not consume so much more water. you need to take into account that the water consumed is mostly rain waiter. both drunk and used by the plants eaten (if we are talking about cows for example). the animals pee it and gets back in circle. it doesn't disappear. the remaining part is still more than a kg of corn, but can you really compare the nutritional content of a kg of meat and a kg of corn?

The water is also counted in agricultural byproducts like corn husks and stalks that humans cannot eat and those scraps are fed to cows to recycle it. All this about meat consuming too much water is heavily misleading. It's true on paper but in reality it's not a problem. Resource scarcity from production doesn't really happen. If the resource is capable of sustaining anything, humans will find a way to make it sustain more.
If you're referring to land area that could be destined to "better uses" , the fact is that you can't plant whatever you want wherever you want. On most land, only grass can grow easily. Cows mostly eat grass (in various forms). It'd be wasted land if it wasn't used for them

From the little I have heard of South Africa and esp. Cape Town, I second the request for information--or at least the Israel/South Africa comparison comes to mind. But perhaps politics inhibits South Africa's water progress in a way it does not in Israel. Desalination requires a lot of energy, which makes it too expensive for most poor countries. It also makes it somewhat polluting, as poor countries usually don't create energy from nuclear solar or wind plants.
And of course, the distribution - which is relatively simple in a country so small, but not so in larger countries. As far as I'm aware, despite having water issues in the US - they're not planning a federal or even state-level pipeline system (but I might be wrong about that)
