@@TheHolyGhost777 not true; if you can't get underground, the advice is still to get as low as you possibly can, which does include ditches. The NOAA says if you can safely get lower than the level of the roadway, to leave your car and lie flat in that area while covering your head with your hands.

From the sounds of it, they weren't even completely sure which way it was coming from. So it's kind of hard to know which way to drive if that's the case.
Honestly, there was no reason to speed away. You can see the path it's taking and they aren't in it. It moved left to right far enough ahead of them that they were fine to stay put and where would they have gone anyways? They're probably driving home! They were safe because they weren't in the path and didn't drive into it.
Downed trees, down power lines - did you see the tree across a runoff road? People say .....get in a ditch.....but with power lines possibly down, that could be a very dangerous place.
Last year was a busy season too and we had an EF2 at Bush airport (IAH) here in Houston TX. We don't get as many in Houston cause Huntsville TX is the bottom of Tornado alley but when we do it's intense down here. I worked security for international flights and on my UA-cam channel are the videos from the EF2. Luckily we were next to concrete walls and we have break room and offices underground so that's where we went but some grounds crew almost didn't make it in time
I lived in Southern California for 38 years. I decided after the last EQ that I didn’t want to raise my two littles in The EQ capital of the US so I moved to AZ. I am now in SC about an hour from Charlotte and am not familiar with tornadoes but it seems that all of you that get hit by them KNOW you are in Tornado Alley. I am now living in a Mobile home where Tornadoes can happen. I’m aware of that. They don’t happen here a lot and are not usually big but I know what may happen. These are choices we make. It amazes me as to how many people act like they never heard of a Tornado in Tornado Alley. Please prepare yourself. Or Move. Things are only going to get worse according to the gospel so get your life straight as well. I am well aware of the situation I moved into. My Littles are grown and are both not living near me. Face your vehicle towards the wind. Less wind resistance plus the windshield is the strongest window in a vehicle. Just duck down in your seat with seatbelts on! Or just sit there praying to God while recording, that works too!🙄
I live off this road. There is no ditch to run into, they were stuck. That last corner she filmed is on the way to my house, it doesn't look at all like it did. All the trees are gone.
She's likely recording this in the hope that John gets the message afterwards? Why in tornado prone zones don't they have emergency tie down stations at intervals along key roads ? Anchored deeply with concrete? They could have permanent chains at these points for securing cars? You might need to modify vehicles to allow for anchoring. Yes it's expensive but you'd think they'd use road tolls & Insurance funds to establish these? Then drivers would have to carry blankets to shelter under inside of vehicles as a back up? It's better than sitting there.
Never forget, if a tornado looks like it’s coming directly at you, that means it’s actually moving away so you’re in the clear. Wait, I think I might have that gotten confused…
lol! Also, never forget, you should always try to stay still in your car with your head and arms up and out if you see a tornado. Hold your phone vertically in front of you for added screen protection. Don't attempt to move away from the storm or get out of your projecticle vehicle. Just relax and roll with it.

The only thing I'm really trained in is knowing how to call on the Lord Jesus Christ in times of trouble. Don't just sit there and film that's stupid..as you can see several vehicles have turned around..tornado travels 30..to 50mph go opposite direction 80mph..I have out ran 2 or three tornado just have to anticipate roughly direction and fly like hell on road that going in different way
Yep they had plenty of time to safely evacuate. You do have to do it immediately before you start to feel your car shaking or pressure changing, otherwise you could wind up in the suction which will be pulling against your vehicle making it impossible to keep your speed up. That's what happened to TwistX team. They were trying to outrun a bit too late but kept losing speed until it overtook them. There was another solo chaser right in front of them who experienced the slow down too, but was just far enough ahead that he made it to a point where he could jump out of his car and lie down in a ditch. His car windows were all blown but he survived without a scratch!
The very perplexing aspect to this is that the NWS is pretty accurate in forecasting where these storms will hit many hours prior to the event, yet people feel the need to run around in vehicles anyway. Yes, they can’t pinpoint where a Tornado will exactly hit, but you can’t stay off the roads for a few hours until storms pass?
Irritating how many folks still record in this limited odd fashion. Turning the camera sideways for a wider panoramic "landscape" view is so much better.

Southern tornadoes are the worst! You really can't see them until they are on top of you, and most are rain wrapped. Glad ya'll are OK.
