I feel like when they are within the same album (at least with both Aquarius and Visions), it's a little different because they are concept albums that tell a story so recurring themes and motifs have a purpose outside of "hey that's a reference"
2:30 bruh that transition was s m o o t h Edit: and then again at 2:56 AND 3:23 BRUH EDIT 2: premonition and visions are very alike, I knew that, but THIS alike (also in tempo and instrumentation) I never noticed haha.
Great work, that little lightning round where all the cockroaches showed up got a laugh out of me! By the way, you might've also missed that one part of the solo in Portals being reprised in the solo of Carousel.
@@ronin_zyglrox Maybe I missed it if it's in here (or maybe this is a bit of a stretch), but would you consider the intro to the Architect and the Sect to be a reprise/reference?
"Sempiternal Beings" contains a direct quote from "Puzzle Box"! ua-cam.com/video/jJULV7fvqzI/v-deo.html 3:08, "Stoned by her gaze" ua-cam.com/video/2oCD4Wk1bwo/v-deo.html 0:32, "navigate through my cave" I also think Visions has many more than you found; I know of at least a few, but that album is so motivic, you could probably find a reasonable way to link every song. Thanks for the video! I didn't catch at least half of these and will definitely need to revisit :)
This is super cool video! Even though most of these references are easy to notice at first listens when you have listened to Haken as much as I have you kind a forget most of these
Fantastic. There are a few more for sure. My favorite is one where the band even transitions from Drowning in the Flood to Celestial Elixir in the Aquamedley. My favorite transition ever from the circus goofiness to Drowning in the Flood at 10 : 45 in Celestial Elixir.
A bit too late, but let me be nerdy a bit too here^^ Great Video! I really missed a few and i love their references. If you ever make an update video, you also missed this: 1985 - Around 6:26, listen to the solo MC The sect - Whats this at the end? :p
@@terr4c0 bro, we are on a 15+ minute video of coincidences. That's just the most obvious one on fauna I didn't have to look for. If you want to talk about themes then we can talk about themes. Elephants never forget, the part where the guy is introducing elephant man. That's obviously a stylistic reference to Cockroach King and likely a reference to their style from their EP(before the remaster crystalize), gives a bit of the vibe from Celestial Elixir. They sound similar not the same. This stylistic choice is different from using the same melody and rhythm just the notes are longer such as palace in the clouds. It can't be compared to multiple stylistic choices the band has made in the past but it can be tied to a very specific melody in very specific songs.
@@Deathyman Not so related but that intro to The Elephant Man is pretty much a direct reference to Gentle Giant's singing style, Proclamation: ua-cam.com/video/CKPmXcWXHTU/v-deo.html and Cogs in Cogs: ua-cam.com/video/WF-bLBMqIHY/v-deo.html to name a few. Not to mention Haken's style (and many others) are quite inspired by them. Good listens, would recommend👍
Poor title. Those are much more than "references". It's call music motifs, to pontuate themes, the same whey movie themes play when characters appears.
Prog being prog love it

Clear/Only Stars melody is 100% the same as "Where I end you begin" from Host and MC
Dude this is awesome. I love when bands reference themselves. Hope this blows up.

@@alphecca446 i think they are definitely very similar and I almost included them in the video, but im not sure if it is an intentional reference
i knew they referenced a lot in their albums, but this is showing me even more than i'd ever noticed! amazing work!!

Glad to see that Fauna has some references. It seems to have moved away from a lot of the typical prog metal -isms
This is super cool video! Even though most of these references are easy to notice at first listens when you have listened to Haken as much as I have you kind a forget most of these
This is great, my favorite is probably the Initiate chorus at the end of The Architect. But you missed Crystallised 14:57 and MC IV: The Sect 1:40
I was looking for this comment
In fact 1:20 on MCC IV onwards is pretty much a Shepherd's Tone, same thing in Crystallised
YES MAN YESSSSS
I've been having to tab through all these songs to show people manually. You're the real MVP
you are a hero for making this

Good to see people talking about my favourite band. And yeah, I really love concept albums.
Eyes of Ebony mentions climbing a mountain, likely a reference to their 3rd album
Nice idea for a video though!
This is such a great video! Top-tier content!
Thank you Sir! Love your videos!
Haken é incrível ❤
This made me realize that my life is a lie. How could I miss so many of these…
Do The Dear Hunter next!

crystallized has a reference to the point of no return i think also!
Man, I loved Fauna, but I miss the concept of their oldest albums.
I love this so much!
Thank you algorithm!!
Fuck i love Haken
This is crazy!
These should be called "bringing home the haken"
7:36 I actually don't agree with this one. It´s more akin to the starting riff of Cockroach King than Shapeshifter.
What do you mean no references in Fauna? Island in the Clouds around 3:50. All i can hear is "Stiiiiiilllll IIIIIIII waaaiiiiiit."
That's a coincidence. Composers always have similar melodies, it's part of their identity.

@@zippityzoop2576 Of course. Only Cockroach Kings, Vector and Virus have that intention.

I would think of Eyes of Ebony and The Last Lullaby
for sureeee
Interesting that they chose to not have any references on Fauna
king gizzard and the lizard wizard please lol
I'm pretty sure the last riff in Veil is referenced in the beginning of MC II
the circus music interlude in TPoNR is in CE
What about every time King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard referenced their discography?
how many times do i have to reuse the same riff for it to become a leitmotif instead of lazyness?
It isn't reusing the same riff if it continually changes and evolves the uses and contexts within which it is placed.

it is all dependent on how its used, its not copy pasted in this context

I'm aware of what a motif is. As you can see it's in the description
one of the worst music ever written
