this is what i love about ateez when they cover a song they don't just replicate the original; they add their own unique twists and make the song their own. (not saying they're doing it better than the original, og is og.) when i first heard this i was like woah why are we going so fast but I came to love how they change up the entire feel of the song.
Ateez's cover of this classic Bruno Mars song is really great, the rhythm is more compact, and the style elements of Kpop are mixed, which gives this song a brand-new atmosphere, which is a very successful re-creation. I like your reaction to this song very much, and you will pay attention to the details that most people will not pay attention to, especially the sentence "come girl" by Yeosang. Although it only sings two words, it is easy to be ignored by most people, but his low rich voice has the finishing touch effect on the atmosphere to be expressed in the whole song. This is one of the best covers in kpop. Instead of just replicating the song, they made the song their own style especially by adding their own verse. Jongho's vocals were insane in this and I really loved hongjoong's verse. Yeosang just came for everyone with his "C'mon girl". I lost my mind over that. I am happy that we got hear some vocals from san and yunho as well but also a bit sad that again wooyoung and yeosang were just given one line(yeosang also had an adlib). I wish we could have heard their vocals more. Sometimes I can understand the lack of lines for some members- like for this cover I get the lines being a little unbalanced. But sometimes it just feels like line distribution could've easily been a bit more balanced but the producers didn't even try. Like for example- their song illusion. Illusion has 4 choruses (the song starts with the chorus) out of which the first is sung by yeosang and wooyoung and the rest 3 by mingi and seonghwa. Now I know that mingi's chorus is iconic but since he already has a rap verse, they could have given yeosang another chorus or two more chorus and mingi for the final chorus as switch up to a more energetic one. Wave is also similar. Mingi has a verse and 3 chorus(hakuna matata). Mingi's hakuna matata is ICONIC but atleast one of them could've been given to Yeosang. I remember that during one of the performances where mingi was not present (I don't know if it was during his hiatus or due to some other reason) and Yeosang sang all the hakuna matata's while performing wave and he sounded great. This is Fever 2 era. Based on all of the hair colors, this was filmed during the same week(ish) as the Kingdom stage, Awakening of Summer so yeah, Mingi was on hiatus. They were so busy during the Kingdom era!! If you haven’t already checked out their Stay cover, I would recommend you do that one next. They performed that during Fever 3 era so Mingi was back.

The original songs is slower. It has more of a old school 70s' vibe. They made it faster which made this version like a brand new song for me.
