Type 1 diabetes: A tale of the pancreas under siege | Professor Sarah Richardson

- Type 1 diabetes happens when the immune system attacks the beta cells in your pancreas. But when it comes to how and why beta cells are destroyed, or what triggers this - we still don’t have all the answers.
Professor Sarah Richardson is studying a rare collection of pancreas samples to help piece together the puzzle. In this lecture, she explains how this new understanding could lead us to ways of preventing or curing type 1 diabetes in the future.
This is an edited version of the RD Lawrence Lecture presented at the Diabetes UK Professional Conference 2021. - Наука та технологія
thanks for the informative review
Nice lecture, thanks Dr
Amazing, keep up the brilliant work and thank you.
Brilliant stuff. Wish we could have more presentations like this.
Well presented Sarah!
Thankyou for the knowledge

Fascinating talk, especially considering the T1DE1 and T1DE2. I was diagnosed aged 30 very suddenly and have often wondered if late onset has a different pathology.
Thank you, I'm a biomed science student and my dissertation project is on the enzyme A20s' role in beta-cell protection from auto-immune insult. By watching this video, I now have a much better understanding of the mechanisms involved in immune targeted activity on the beta cells, and hopefully I can make a connection regarding the role of A20 enzyme, and the NF-kB pathway involved in beta cell defense.
@WilliamSherman-il9yy also working on a same concept but not for just T1DM but for other autoimmune diseases and cancer would really wanna have a session with you

Is there any chance of permanent cure of type 1 diabetes
Hi Swati. Thanks for your comment. Whilst there currently no cure, our scientists aiming to develop and test treatments for type 1 diabetes - called immunotherapies - that target the immune system to stop it destroying beta cells. @Katherine Foster Wanna really save lives? Stop spamming lethal lies like that!
No. Functional cure is a few years away, pathological ("real") cure even more.
OT: Reporting Katherine for child abuse before she actually kills someone with her voodoo mumbojumbo herbal "cures".
