The comments in this thread are how I learned that he passed - nearly an entire year after the fact. I sat with him at the bar in a dirty little club in Philadelphia called Kung Fu Necktie and shot the shit with him for a while before he performed. Having grown up listening to his profound, seemingly religious, lyrics, I was surprised at how plain, blue-collar, and religiously unaffiliated he was. I asked him questions about what it’s like to be a “rock star,” and his general remark was along the lines of, “I’ve had a great time. I got laid a lot. It’s a horrible way to make money, and there are a lot of challenges and roadblocks, but I wouldn’t change a thing overall.” He was a likable guy, and not at all the hifalutin philosopher or theologian I expected him to be. It was like hanging out with that fat guy or the mailman from Cheers. I’m sorry to hear this news - and yet another reminder of my own fading youth.
Haunting epilogue from a singer who guided me through my youth, gave me strength as an adult, and continued to move me as I hit middle age. RIP Eric Wagner.
@Gerry Roberts, yup. When I put the CD on this spring I listened to it front to back with headphones on and was transported to my childhood room…just like it was 1986, then to my university daze in the early 90s, and finally, to looking at my two boys with tears in my eyes after hearing “I am Jon” for the first time. Haunting.
The world has lost a legend! His voice and music resonates throughout the years. He left a long legacy of great memories and music you can rest your weary head Eric! Thanks for the music man. Rest in peace 🙏 there will never be enyone like him again.
Left me speechless....Eric Wagner and Bruce Franklin impacted my life in a profound way back in the '80s, always considered Trouble the best metal band ever. Even the dudes from Metallica referred to them as heavy influencers on their own music. Their Lyrics and Riffs really pushed an emotional wave like no other.
One of the best song writers, performers and vocalist the USA has ever produced. I cried on hearing of his passing. Tears flowed again on listening to and watching this video..can't wait to have this lp on my turntable.
Doom metal, and us in particular, owe Eric a HUGE debt of gratitude for carrying the torch for U.S. doom back when Pentagram were still obscure and thrash, speed and hair metal were the orders of the day... RIP Eric...
I sadly re-discovered my love of Eric Wagner's music with Trouble--and then discovered The Skull, Blackfinger and even Lid--after hearing of his passing. Really looking forward to hearing the whole album. Does anyone know if the first Blackfinger will get re-released any time soon? It appears to be next to impossible to find now.
I just got done listening to a bootleg of Eric made at a small club he played at in Chicago right before he died. It's so good to hear some fresh brand new Eric Wagner. I can't wait till the rest of the album comes out in March. The Lord of Doom strikes again. 😎
This song is the nostrodomas of his future.he wrote it all .all of us and KIM and the Chicago DOOM Crue already miss you the Legacy will live on.now He is with Barry jamming out 🤘😇🤘
Looking forward to the release, but doesn't sound all that much different from Trouble and The Skull. I dig it, but the press release made mention that Eric was stretching his legs on this. Hoping the rest of the album showcases his voice more than familiar ground. Also, it was Dave Grohl's Probot project that re-ignited my love of Eric's voice and that led me to The Skull. Unfortunate that he left this world entirely too soon.
I love eric wagner,my fave metal singer, trouble is amazing

Those lyrics are incredible, his voice is amazing and the world is worse without him in it
World is troubled
Those lyrics are infantile, his voice is grating, and the world is better without him in it. I fixed it for you.
I'll miss him more than any other
Agreed. I've listened to Trouble's debut more than any other album. Him being gone is truly sad.

I’m crushed and the voice in my head was silenced. Another sad moment is that there is only 38 comments
Love it and a fitting song to his memory....ill be supporting this release.
Can't wait to get the full Album. So sad that he's gone.

I cried when he said “ maybe tomorrow I will love me again “. I couldn’t help it. I used to see these guys all the time in Chicago. Many memories.
Great song, great voice, great riff. 🔥🤘🔥

Man imma miss this dude. Got to see one of his last performances and have a chat with him a few days before he passed.

Huge respect to one of the greatest!!! He will be painfully missed, a true doom giant, one of the very best of the genre!

Try his "Highdeas Vol.1". Mostly just Eric and his guitar. Unfortunately there will be no Vol. II. ua-cam.com/video/fWZjEw88XWs/v-deo.html
