ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Texas DT Byron Murphy:
“It feels as if most mock drafts are predicting edge rusher Dallas Turner will be the first defensive player drafted Thursday night. And maybe he will be. But there are some front office executives who believe defensive tackle Byron Murphy II has a realistic chance of seizing that honor. It's possible a defender might not be picked until Atlanta at No. 8 or Chicago at No. 9. Murphy could be a consideration for both teams. Murphy, who had five sacks last season, is talented, plays a coveted position and has gotten clean character reports.”
NFL Insider Albert Breer On Bears options at with #9 pick in the NFL Draft:
“A couple of friends of GM Ryan Poles said they think he’ll be looking to add talent around Caleb Williams. So if one of the top three receivers slide to Chicago, DJ Moore and Keenan Allen could get a running mate. If not? Maybe an offensive lineman or Texas 3-technique Byron Murphy II.”
In other Chicago Bears draft news, more details have emerged from Caleb Williams’ Top 30 visit in Chicago. Adam Schefter reports that instead of going to dinner with Ryan Poles, Matt Eberflus and Bears’ staffers, Williams met up with Cole Kmet, DJ Moore, TJ Edwards and more “team leaders” to show what they would be getting in Williams. It reportedly went well and the Bears are set to draft him with the #1 pick on Thursday night.

Adam Schefter On Caleb Williams’ Top 30 Dinner in Chicago:
“When Caleb Williams visited Chicago in early April, the Bears did something smart. Rather than have Williams go to dinner with their front office and coaches, they sent him to dinner with team leaders Cole Kmet, DJ Moore, T.J. Edwards and others. The thinking was, those are some of the team's most respected players, the players whom others listen to, and this group then would be able to tell the other players what they were getting in Williams, who is likely to be the No. 1 overall pick.”

F. He is not Aaron Donald
F, have too many other more pressing needs.
F- if any of the big receivers are there.
@@mb6381 edge rusher, center & left tackle are bigger needs than another receiver, but definitely don't need another defensive tackle.
F. Not what we’re looking for edge offensive line WR
No. You don't draft Dexter and Pickens last year and then use a top ten pick the following year on a replacement.
I agree
has it occurred to you dexter and pickens arent progressing fast enough
@@OnemanshowforeverThis isn’t that hard. Dexter and Pickens were early mid round picks right? You are taking those guys with HOPE that they overachieve based on their draft status. So far it looks like they are both producing at a comparable level to where they were picked. Dexter looks nice but he doesn’t seem to be overachieving. But looks like a nice quality average to maybe above avg starter in the league. Now you pair him with a barn burner like this guy…. And Pickens as a depth piece… now you start having the D-tackle position that might be. One of the better in the league which helps lighten the load for an already be the good secondary and linebacker core. And then the defense becomes great. It’s all push and pull man…. And you gotta have balance. Bears don’t need a wide receiver…. Jordan love doesn’t have half the talent as Caleb and he’s killing it with receivers nobody has ever heard of. And the Bears already have a top 6-8 receiving duo
@@norman8038exactly… Dexter looks nice but doesn’t look like he’s overachieving based on where he was selected. He looks like a nice maybe slightly above avg quality NFL starter. Someone to pair with a beast
Yes you do. Look at what the Eagles did on their Super Bowl run and other years of competing. They always had a nasty rotation of defensive linemen. Having solid depth at that position is so important in late games when your defensive line is still fresh and everyone can win against the opposing offensive linemen
The Bears could probably trade down to 12-15 and still get him, along with a 2nd round pick. If he's not there at 12-15, Laiatu Latu, Taliese Fuaga, or Olu Fushana might be.
If there's no trade available?
@@Cramdeon1969 If there's no trade available? Then I'd select Rome Odunze if he slips to 9. If Odunze is not available, then you can pick Murphy or best available.
Just pick a good receiver at 9 please the defence looks good
No keep adding to the defense. Receivers are more than fine this year. Or add an O lineman.
Right, Stop all this trade down for these irrelevant players. Get a blue chip WR at 9 for Caleb!!!
@@df2324 we already have two blue chip receivers
@@clarkgriswold5818 Allen is 32 and hasn’t played a full season due to injuries in years! Now, I’m not against selecting Murphy, but he could be had at 15. We definitely need one more solid receiver drafted. Luckily this year’s draft is loaded with them.

For me our defense was top 5 for the last half of the season so taking another defensive player at #9 is not a priority. If one of the three wide receivers is there at #9 that’s the pick, it has to be. If they are gone you go for the best OT to protect the rookie quarterback or if they feel that player is to high at #9 trade back and hopefully pick up some much needed draft picks. Remember we still have Carolina’s 2nd round pick next year which is pretty much a late 1st round pick to trade with and next years draft is full of defensive quality so for me go offence and give Caleb another weapon. I would love Odunze I think he is a superstar and with Keenan Allen likely to miss games due to his injury record and also the fact he may only be here a year that is the way I hope it goes
I like Murphy over the edges in this class. Id prefer trading back 4-5 spots and getting a 2nd round pick for center, tackle, safety or receiver.
why another safety, after already signing multiple free agents last month? TE3 is a bigger need.
@johnbrennan4449 Byard is a veteran. The other guy is a rotation player. If they could get the best free safety in the draft for a 2nd round pick, I would at least be willing to consider it.
@@dustingilstrap6838yeah no. Bears got 3 starting caliber safeties drafting one in the 2nd would make no sense
@theballerathlete The roster doesn't have many glaring holes outside of qb and d-line. With a roster like Chicago's, I'd much prefer taking the best player available. As opposed to trying to fill a hole and hoping a 2nd round pick is the answer. You could do alot worse than hoping a 2nd rounder will work, don't get me wrong. I'm just always on team best player available. I only prefer the trade back due to lack of draft capital. Otherwise I'd stay put and take best available at 9.
@@dustingilstrap6838 TE3 is definitely a glaring hole, but that can be filled @ #122 by TCU's Jared Wiley.

I will be at the draft! Harrison let us know where you will be so we can stop by and say what's up
That's awesome man! Thanks for watching! BEAR DOWN!
Ok, you convinced me. If the big 3 at WR are gone then I will be happy with Murphy.
Byron Murphy II is the best DT in this class and would be an amazing fit on the Bears' defense. BEAR DOWN and thanks for watching!
Only the Bears would draft a defensive player at 9 in one of the most talented offensive drafts I've ever seen!! You gotta draft one of those receivers or an offensive tackle to protect Caleb. We have already committed more to defense than offense.
It’s gonna be a trade back if they do doofus
The fact that the draft is so deep in offense is why you would draft defense at 9. Not saying I personally would.
Because we desperately need a disruptive DT, and he’s one of the best to come out in a while.
Only a bears fan would complain about getting the best defensive player in a deep draft… always complaining bout sun
Isn’t the point of having a franchise QB is that you don’t need a loaded offense?
No way. Where you read that sports mockery by Erik lambert? 😂
I always had trouble accepting Caleb and wasn't all the way there. But when you put him on that depth chart...that felt good
Hell yeah man. Caleb Williams will take the Bears places we cannot even imagine yet. Super excited. BEAR DOWN!
Odunze or Verse
Just saw another article about the Falcons tampering case. If they get hit and have to swap picks with the Vikings, that almost surely changes things in terms of player availability at 9. But yes, for me, it would be blue chip receiver or BM, in that order. Alt will be gone and I would not take the #2 tackle over Murphy. Another thing to consider is taking a 3 tech inside the top 10. Would that make sense contract management-wise?
One thing I don’t understand is how most mock draft are not like the actual draft. I feel like even if Rome is there just see the bears drafting someone else. Or the fact that the titans could be the one to trade back which could have alt fall or alt could get taken by the chargers
If Rome isn’t there, then go DT. Eberflus is a Rod Marinelli disciple and runs the same Tampa/Cover 2 defense that Lovie and Dungy ran. You don’t need great outside pass rush, you need inside pass rush from your under tackle. Set up Byron Murphy next to Dexter and Sweat and get a flyer on a DE later on. Walker isn’t a bad player and that’s a dominant front with Bullard and Pickens in the rotation. Think Tommie Harris, Mike Brown and Urlacher. It all start INSIDE out and not OUTSIDE in. Dexter is your new Tank Johnson, hopefully minus the guns and extra curricular bs.
(Yes this was copied and pasted from one of the other videos in this channel).
This feels like the weirdest year yet when it comes to the Bears…
Tats c trade we have to go with receiver or edge cool with dextor he flash well at the end of the year plus I trust a lot of poles draft picks
YES LETS GET THIS DRAFT OVER WITH READY FOR THIS TO BE DONE!
Let's go! BEAR DOWN! Gonna be an awesome NFL Draft!
Alt or trade down for jpj
Very good video and with your BIG BOARD !!! And some great comments below !!!
Alt wasn't one of the Bears' visits. Any idea why? Confirm they're passing on him?
They were able to get him on a local visit so it didn’t count against their 30
Great googly-moogly I would love Murphy at 9, I believe Dallas could be Chicago's pick, however still much love if its Verse.
Murphy is a trade back option, he is +5000 to go top 10 right now, it would be a reach
Build the trenches -
We committed a lot to the defense through the draft and free agency. We need offensive talent and it starts by building the line or drafting a receiver.
@@justinrakestraw4142 Absolutely...
We need a Center, Edge & DT. If there's a real WR/TE game changer at 9 do it! Also, Alt seems like a great prospect. A ballhawk safety can take the defense to elite😮
They don't need a center
We have 2 veterans who can play center. We have them for 2 years. Center position doesn’t need to be addressed until next year the earliest.
Im not against murphy at 9 could be had lower but he is a great prospect will be a damn good bear.
Murphy and Dexter would be AMAZING!
They have not had Byron Murphy III for a top 30 visit and have not gone to any of his workouts. I want the Bears to draft Murphy but sadly it's not going to happen.
If they trade back I’m all in
If Montez Sweat gets hurt, our pass rush is dead. Be smart here. Get an edge rusher
Agreed 100% I would trade back for additional picks and actually double down on edge!
#9 is too rich for MurphyII, if the Bears trade down it would be a tough call between him and Latu.
If the Bears stay at #9, it’ll only be to get Alt/Fashanu to protect Caleb’s blindside. Imagine Braxton Jones as our swing Tackle.
Fashanu isn’t the second best tackle! Pass on him at 9 for sure.
FILL IN THE BLANK! The Bears will draft _______ at #9
Who they will draft: Rome ODUNZE or olu fashanu
Who they should draft :Dallas Turner or JC latham
Odunze or hopefully trading back, doubtful Alt will be there at 9
Murphy if Odunze is gone.
The best player available
I see a trade back happening. an o-lineman feels likely to me
Bears draft offense and more offense. Marvin Harrison Jr and anybody else . Nobody can effect the Bears more than MHJr. Defense doesn't have to be great with a super offense. A super offense takes the pressure off the defense. Caleb Williams becomes an instant superstar.
Lfg boys! Bear down!
Dexter could definitely thrive at NT. Murphy and Dexter in the interior would be elite
I don't see the Bears taking Murphy because Poles used a 2nd and a 3rd last year on DT's and taking one in the 1st round this year would be admitting a mistake, make him look bad, and it wouldn't make sense to give up on Dexter after only 1 year.
Dexter is alright, Pickens is a backup. Murphy is a solid starter. It’s not a mistake, it’s an upgrade. The first 2 guys were second and third round picks, and we lost our starter to Arizona in FA. Dexter can play multiple positions on the dline too.
Yes please on Murphy…🙏🏻. Bears need depth on the defensive line. Tired of blowing 4th quarter leads. We are in the playoffs if the Bears wouldn’t have collapsed in a few close games last season.
What the hell are you watching. It’s was not the D line that collapsed but the interior offensive line. Primarily weak ass play from the center position that cost us games.
@@alvareza3 Im guessing you don’t watch football much? Theres literally more than a few blown games in 2023….Vikings game…lions game away…broncos…saints and browns were all blown by the defense in the 4th quarter. Bears had the lead or tied and couldn’t finish or stop anyone.
I would not like drafting Byron Murphy at #9. If Alt or Odunze or Verse is there I would take them ahead of Byron Murphy. Otherwise see if you can trade down to 12-14 range for a 2nd or 3rd and Take Verse/Powers-Jackson/Bryan Thomas and then look for Patrick Paul OT in 3rd round while picking up more talent with the extra pick.
We should just trade back and grab another pick if we’re gonna get Murphy or verse
Put Dexter opposite sweet and let Pickens an Murphy plug up the middle. 😅
Like this strategy a lot. Thanks for watching! BEAR DOWN!
If the Falcons get their pick taken from them and we move up, better take one of those 3 receivers or Joe Alt.
Forget receiver. Bears already have a top 6-8 receiving duo with Moore and Keenan and Kmet who’s a top 7-8 tight end. That’s more than enough for a QB like Caleb. Jordan love doesn’t have half the talent that Caleb has and he’s killing it with wide receivers nobody has ever heard of.
@@clarkgriswold5818 The top 3 Would all possibly be 1 if they were in different classes. Braxton Jones can hold his own. Get Caleb a weapon he can grow with and that could learn under two top receivers in the league. Allen’s future is unsure with the Bears. Allen would also be the prefect mentor for a receiver that way they don’t have to always depend on their natural ability to get open.
@@FreshOutDaToilet2012 all the position groups for the Bears are at least a B grade except the Offensive line which is a C- and the Defensive line which is a C+ at best and that’s only cuz Sweat brings that average up from a D+ or C- overall grade. You win super bowls by being balanced and above avg at all the position groups outside of maybe 1 group that lacks some. The receiver group right now is a strong B+… I understand Allen won’t be here for more than a year or two…. But check next years wide receiver class. Luther burden, tetairo McMillen out of Arizona is a beast and there’s a receiver at Alabama too that’s insane. Bears need to bring that offensive line or D line into the B category this year with Alt or a d tackle like this guy. Then your QB enhances the entire group to bring them over the top. Braxton jones is serviceable at best. Players like Braxton jones are backups on Super Bowl teams and great depth pieces. And Keenan Allen isn’t gonna mentor shit. These dudes there to get paid. They ain’t buddies.
@@clarkgriswold5818 Allen is 32 and hasn’t played a full season in years. If he goes down our receiver room immediately becomes mediocre at best with Scott, V Jone, and Pettis as backups! We need a stud young receiver! We can address the dline with pick 75 and 122. I think Poles did enough in FA this year in addressing the oline. We can still sign some d help with the 15 mill leftover after the draft picks are signed.
Next year we have 2 second round picks on top of our first. We can address center , edge, and whatever needs upgrading with those high draft picks.
@@attilasuto6013 again, even if Allen goes down…. We still have a better receiving core than Green Bay, and Jordan Love killed it with nobodies…. And love isn’t half as talented as Caleb is
This is probably the only pick they could make at 9 that would actually piss me off. WR, Edge, OT, or even a trade down would be better than this
We need a 3 tech, unless Eberflus is comfortable with Dexter. We lost our starter to Arizona in FA.
Xavier Legette could be the 4th best wide receiver in the draft.
I would still take Newton over Murphy. I like Murphy but Newton at least like 90% or more of Murphy but he’s played more than double the snaps. Newton’s body of work is unimpeachable where and Murphy I question how much he can handle. If you want Murphy I understand, but it feels like he would need to be on a heavy rotation to play like he did in college and is that really worth #9 if you think you could fall back some an get Newton plus someone else?
We just drafted a 2 DTs what happened to them?
Busts
@krnpowr what? Do you watch the games? They both started coming on strong towards the end, Florida had Dexter playing out of position in college and he was super Green

@@krnpowr no, Dexter improved tremendously, he’ll be a starter, Pickens still needs a little more time.
Not a chance I would want Murphy over Verse. Edge is need. Dexter, Pickens, and Biggs (and Cowart) will be fine with a good edge.
THANK YOU!!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE SMH
Grade B+ especially if the big three receivers are gone.
Murphy wouldn't be my favorite of all the options at 9. I like Johnny Newton better, quicker and more productive. Still, I'd prefer a top WR, the top LT, or one of the top 3 DEs.
B (unless Odunze is there and than a C-)
Rome or trade back with Indy at 15.
Johnny Newton clears Byron Murphy quite comfortably. Amazing the amnesia people get when a guy misses the combine while nursing an injury
J Newton is better than Murphy, why would anyone take Murphy at 9? You could trade back and he'll still be there, I'd give poles a D- if he takes Murphy at 9....
That the bears biggest issue, investing too much on the Defense and not enough on the offense, id rather them trade back and take someone on the OL, thomas or bowers if he's there.
I am 100% good with Murphy.
If top WRs and Alt are gone, then I am fine with Murphy. I would prefer him on a trade back.
At this point as long as we get one of the following I am good:
WRs- Harrrison, Nabers, Odunze
LT- Alt, Fashanu
DE- Verse, Turner, Latu
DT- Newton, Murphy II
Forget Latu and Fashanu. Those guys are mid to late first round talents, same with Newton!
If we trade down I really like Darius Robinson edge from Mizzou, he is a beast and a physical specimen!
I've been calling it. I really think we end up with Murphy. He screams Eberflus 3 tech.
need an edge, not another DT, after drafting both Gervon Dexter & Zacch Pickens last year.
@@johnbrennan4449 we need offensive linemen or wide receivers. WE HAVE COMMITTED ENOUGH TO THE DEFENSE!! WE NEED OFFENSIVE TALENT!!

3. DE2 (can't wait until #75)
4. LT2 (might be able to find one @ #75)
5. WR3 (#75 or #122 or anywhere in between)

@@attilasuto6013 yes, you are correct, Poles could wait until next year to address center, but he could also wait until next year to address left tackle or wide receiver, having faith in Braxton Jones/Larry Borom/Jake Curhan or Tyler Scott/Collin Johnson/Velus Jones/Dante Pettis.
Murphy highlights are ok he looks better at fullback .
If this happens and Rome is there it just screams the Bears archaic mindset of defense first in an offensive league. This is what happens when you go defensive minded at HC.
Let’s have this organization draft another hopeful franchise QB and then not give him every offensive weapon possible to help aid in their development. Because that has worked the past 100+ years.
It really feels like a cruse sometimes being a Bears fan.
Cmon now…Caleb has the best offense for a number 1 pick QB ever. DJ, Allen, Kmet, Everett, Swift, and Herbert is phenomenal for him to come into. They could still draft a receiver at 76 or even 122…or even wait until next year. It’s not their biggest need at all
Relax, they’ll address receiver, but might be in a later round. This receiver class is unbelievably deep! They can find a gem at pick 122! Maybe Tahj Washington from USC to play with Caleb again!
