- Police have arrested the reigning “Mrs World” on charges of assault over an on-stage fracas in which she pulled the crown off the head of the new “Mrs Sri Lanka”.

Caroline Jurie yanked the crown off Pushpika de Silva minutes after she was declared “Mrs Sri Lanka 2020” during a gala in Colombo on April 4. Jurie declared that Pushpika de Silva was ineligible as the winner because she was divorced, and forcibly removed her crown. De Silva needed hospital treatment after the incident, seen by stunned spectators in a packed venue as well as a live social media audience.
To qualify for the title, contestants must be married. De Silva is estranged from her husband, but they are still legally married. The local franchise holder for the pageant, Chandimal Jayasinghe, said they were “deeply disturbed and sincerely regret” the behaviour of Jurie and the told the media the crown would be returned to De Silva

Not only did they embarrassed the winner but they also embarrassed the runner up with false hope on winning the crown
They didn’t embarrass her, she embarrassed herself. She was so happy to get that crown on her head, got emotional, celebrating knowing fully well that she didn’t really win anything. She embarrassed herself for not standing up for that woman when she was attacked like that on stage. She was more than happy to accept that crown.

I don't agree with you. She went there to win & she's a runner up. Meaning she gets the title if something happens to the one that won or if she broke some rule. She didn't do anything wrong. The one who took removed the crown was at fault for me. I dont know what rules they have, but if they had such a rule they should have discussed it sooner or even at that point doing it with a nicer, more civilized manner. Not like she is taking revenge.

A divorcee separated or estranged woman is as much a Mrs as a happily married woman. They should be able to live with their head up high no matter what their personal circumstances are. @@sukithadissanayake4048 Mrs. World should have refused to crown her, made the cheating public, reported it to the international organisers, mentioned exactly what was happening behind the scenes on satage. There was literally 5 different and better ways she could have gone about this, than crowning her, then humiliating her by calling her a divorcee who didnt deserve the crown and the then forcing it off the winner. Regardless of what was happening behind the scenes, she shot herself in the foot with her behaviour on stage. This was embarrassing for her, and now she's an embarrassment to the country.

@@spookynugget9930 she was first awarded the title and then the crown was taken back as they assumed she's divorced while the eligibility is 'being married'...so the runner up was instead crowned... however it was later discovered that there had been a misunderstanding and the winner is actually not divorced as it was presumed earlier so the crown, returned back to her!
