Awesome shoes first time seeing them. It looks so much more comfortable for the horses to wear. You are so gentle and patient with the horse while working. I enjoyed your video. Thank you!
Surely the horse would crush the light/battery when they step on it, and it couldn't be for mud, most likely stone/concrete only so it could activate the lights? If not, i want in on the business
I use these shoes in clear, and they're easy for me to put on. I like that they are more shock absorbing than steel. They also stay on better than steel since they are so light. I only use 2 nails on each side of the foot. Perhaps it not the recommended thing, but even my foot-scuffing mare keeps them on 6 weeks with no problem.
Interesting video, it would been nice to have lead with an explanation of what a ground control horseshoes are, what there used for. For those of us that don't know.
With it being so flexible towards the heel, is it having any problem when a horse is backing and catching it on terrain and ripping it off? I'm not so worried in an arena setting with soft sand and dirt, but I was thinking for trail riding it looks as if they were in water or gravel and backed up too quickly, the shoe would lift and allow debris to get caught?!?
In the 17 years of trail riding myself with Ground Control on my own horses, I haven't had anything like this happen and I ride over hard rock, through creeks, up and down hills, etc., so you don't have to worry about that happening. The shoes do flex a bit and you could put your finger at the back of the shoe and pull it down maybe a half inch with some pressure, but that's about it. The benefit of flexing is that if a horse paws at a fence, the shoes will flex and not bend permanently like on a metal shoe.
I like the concept but what about small rocks getting between the shoe and foot?it did flex down quite a bit in the back when he was cutting off the excess..what about slippery rocks in creeks?are they wet anti slip?
Ground Control Horseshoes are made of polyurethane, a special plastic like skate board wheels are made of. They DON'T slip, and in fact you can trot on asphalt too because they are also shock absorbing. Try that with a metal shoe!
Do you think that that would help an older horse? I have an older horse almost 30 years old. He is an Icelandic horse and slowing down having some trouble tripping. My farrier put pads on the front feet and that's helped a little bit also nice to not have to clean out the front feet. I just wondering if this might help even more.
Ground Control Horseshoes are made of durable polyurethane and offer traction, shock absorption and comfort for horses while trail riding, parades, carriage driving, showing, and other equine activities. They are also therapeutic, providing help to horses with lameness issues such as founder, navicular, ringbone, and laminitis. They are made in the USA in Boerne, Texas and have used on thousands of horses around the world in over 30 countries. www.plastichorseshoes.com
If you don't use the same holes in the shoes when you reset them, do you have to make new holes in the hoof as well? If you have to make new holes in the hoof, then wouldn't you end up with a butt load of holes in the hoof wall (that might impair the structural integrity of the hoof wall)? And how do you pick out the dirt that will undoubtably get caught under the shoe?
Very informative video and good filming technique in my opinion. Is it possible to set and mark the outside of the shoe but trim it before nailing ? I can see the advantages of setting and than trimming after nailing for a perfect fit but I was thinking of ways to shorten the time the horse is kept in a hoof stand. Some horses do not tolerate this very well. Like the idea of getting away from metal for those times when a horse throws a shoe.
We have a horse with moderate sensitive soles. We live in cold winter conditions and worry when shoes are pulled for winter and the horse is sent out on frozen ground. These shoes look like they would be a good option for this horse. But with winter conditions it also involves mud when it thaws. Would these shoes retain mud and debris?
Some mud would touch the exposed sole, yes. By design, the hoof is not entirely covered. This allows the sole to breathe. It’s always a good idea to have a dry area like a run in shed where the horse can get out of the mud so it’s not standing in it 100% of the time.
@@GroundControlHorseshoes Thanks for the reply. The horses have a dry barn to shelter in that is rubber matted so they are good there. It's the corral and path out to the pasture that gets muddy then freezes and makes for uneven footing. I went ahead and ordered a couple to try. I just pulled shoes this week and noticed the horse was walking in "gingerly" this morning. Thanks again
im fairly new to shoes as our horses have always gone bare; i wonder how these shoes allow the hoof to breathe? do they collect moisture, causing fungus and bactetria to grow? I am interested in these A LOT!!!
The shoes have two open areas on each side of the frog, so are can get to the hoof, unlike a pad, but still provides the protection and shock absorption.
How do I order? I have three horses to transition into this. 8yr gelding cow horse, and two stud colts that are started, and I think these are awesome.
The shoe fits tight against the hoof so stones don't get in there. If anything does manage to get in, the back of the shoe flexes and the open holes on the sides of the frog protector are angled and andy dirt or debris can get out easily. You can also pick the hoof with a hoof pick just like a barefoot horse.
Why was the horse dividing its weight between the back legs? That's why it was trying to take the foot out of that thing, to stand on that foot because the other was tired or something? I dont know anything, just got curious with it.
What does one shoe weigh, say a size 2? Can I get a sample? I have been after this kind of shoes for years. I would like to try them on my Standardbreds that commonly wear steel half rounds or swedge, or aluminum.
Yes, Ground Control Horseshoes have helped hundreds of foundered horses over the years. They are therapeutic by offering support like a heart bar shoe.
Kristy Watson I have one more question. What's the average life on the shoe like how long do they last, and I GPS the location of the store place from the website. If I bought my horse could y'all put them on if so how much is the charge?
No it's not dangerous to have a slightly flexible shoe. The back area will flex with the hoof so it's more natural to the horse. It doesn't bend in half.
Hello!im french, sorry for my poor english...I think its a real good idea!can we buy that in Ftance,is it expensive and how many time can the horse wear this ?Than k you :)
Ground Control Horseshoes have helped hundreds of horses with navicular to have more support. Because the shoes are also shock absorbing and flex with the hoof, they offer more comfort to the horse as well.
Is there a particular reason why this horse's owner chose to go with Ground Control shoes? I am also curious about any comments about positive or negative effects on horses that have a history of laminitis.
Maia Mendez No she's not in pain. If she was in any immediate pain you could definitely tell. She would most likely jerk her leg up, move to the side, or lash out at him. She's probably just tired of standing there... shoeing is a tedious process. He did a good job with her.
Isn't there a better way then using nails? My horse only needed to get trimmed twice a year, she had super hard hooves that shined without anything put on them, Then I had her shod. Now her feet crack all the time and I have to trim them constantly. Nothing else had changed, just the shoes. These are better then metal shoes and I love that they can be shaped to the hoof (colors are cool too), but still there are nails in the hoof. Obviously this wont happen with every horse, but mustangs and a few others I'd much much rather never got shod. Maybe there is a powerful glue that can be nipped off when it is outgrown?
I use regular and sliders on the back legs (which are my favorite) I know that sliders are thinner and longer but if compared to regular shoes is there any differences with shock absorption? (if there is any)
A farrier knows where to put the nails. It's just like your fingernail, that there are areas that are sensitive and areas that you can actually trim off. You don't nail to the sensitive parts of the hoof.
im sure they can be picked out easily. and how is drugging a horse to be shod or trimmed cruel? its cruel not to trim a horse, and they dont just drug every single horse lmao.
The shoe is nailed to the hoof so there isn't room for anything to get in between the shoe and the hoof except for the back area which is flexible and any dirt can flick out. Also the hoof can be picked out with a hoof pick just like a barefoot or other shod hoof.
Well I know for a fact that you have to have a modified clincher to get these to set properly.. you can get get lucky like him but shoe 6 days a week and I started using these couple months now and I've had to build two separate tools. Nail setter and clinch helper to reach into that channel and hold the head to get proper grip.!.!.
Schleich horseluver 2734 Where the nails are is in the outer wall of the hoof. It is rather like a thick fingernail. Usually if the hoof is healthy and the nails are placed correctly the horse won't even feel it. This is actually a really good idea, probably safer than a metal shoe if you get kicked...
i cant see this working well. my fist point is its going to be hard to nealy impossable to cleen the hoof out proppely. they should have been fully covered or just a rim like a normal shoe. normal steel shoes have worked for hunderads of years why change it now. if you want padding use pads under shoes they fully cover hoof provide padding and i have never found anything stuck under them. when the novalty has gone so will the shoes
Ground Control Horseshoes have been used on thousands of horses around the world for 17 years now. They are not a novelty, they work and are comfortable for the horses. You can clean the hoof with a normal hoof pick and any dirt that gets in can get out easily too because of the angles designed in the shoe. I personally have designed my shoe for helping horses so they have a better option than just a metal shoe that has been used for 2,000 years. Ground Control horseshoes are shock absorbing and give better traction too. Sorry you are unwilling to move ahead with technology.
Actually if you look at old fashioned steel shoes they used to be much much thicker and covered almost all of the hoof aside from the middle. Also as we continue to learn more and more about horse anatomy all the time, its becoming clearer that steel shoes might cause more harm than good as they do not allow the hoof to properly flex like it would naturally.
I think they are a great idea, I wish they had been around when I was showing, and eventing. The only thing I don’t like is what you are calling the Frog protection. I really believe that it would cause issues with children properly cleaning their hooves out. What about Natural shedding of the frog? Love the colors, Love, Love love the shock absorption.. hate the closed center.
