  • Time Team archaeologists have dug up the best preserved medieval village in Britain. The distinctive grass-covered remains of the deserted medieval village of Ulnaby are a landmark in the Durham countryside, and although they've been photographed, surveyed, and written about, they've never been dug. What can Ulnaby and other lost villages like it tell us about normal life in Medieval Britain?

I love that the people are into digging up history in their own backyards and willingly seek out the experts to find out what is down there. One of many things I love about England, so many centuries of history!

It’s so wild that previous centuries are basically swallowed up whole by the earth and we just blithely live right on top of them!

This video transported me back to medieval England and brought daily life in a village to life. The excavations at Alby Hall Farm were fascinating, especially the unexpected discoveries like the Tudor mansion. It's amazing to think about the people who lived there centuries ago.

If you're interested, AL has the Moundville site. It was established in 1000 I think. It was the biggest city north of Mexico for a while there too. I think it was the site of one of the most powerful cities in what would become the US! I've wanted to visit but haven't made it that far yet. 🙂

The plague bacteria can only survive at best a year and that’s if it’s airborne. It is susceptible to drying out and uv light.

Awesome! I'll be interested to see if the store bought peppers breed true or if they are hybrid. Even if they are hybrid, they will still produce. Might be very similar to the parent or they might be very different. Either way they will be a lot of fun.
