In the U.S., police are upping their presence, arresting protesters and dismantling encampments as House Speaker Mike Johnson calls on President Biden to send in the National Guard. Neetu Garcha has the latest on the ever-expanding campus protests in tonight’s top story.
Up north, Canadian consumers fed up with the high cost of groceries are gearing up to send a message with their wallets. A planned boycott of Loblaw and its affiliated stores is gaining traction, while a petition calling for an investigation into the company for alleged profiteering is nearing 100,000 signatures. Abigail Bimman reports on the frustration and the planned action.

It's ok when you live in a city!!!! Our Walmart is not superstore...so no meat section.. minimum produce..no variety...and only other food store is Loblaw independent...they really gouge us in the northern Ontario
@@parentrap i live 2 hours away from any major center. The "local store" is expensive so i drive the 2 hours every 5 weeks or so and get 6 weeks worth of groceries at much cheaper prices. So not too hard even for us retired persons with a single monthly income.

A federal government announcement that it will give as much as $12 million to help Loblaw Companies Ltd, to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions is creating a backlash online.
The announcement sparked an uproar on social media, with commenters expressing frustration about Ottawa handing out money to a large, profitable corporation. Opposition politicians also took to the internet to call out the federal Liberals for their subsidy.
The federal government announced on Monday it will provide up to $12 million to help the grocery chain convert refrigeration systems in about 370 stores. The money will come from the government’s Low Carbon Economy Fund and is expected to help the company cut its carbon footprint by about 23 per cent.
Loblaw reported a profit of $754 million attributable to common shareholders in 2018, and is backed by some of Canada’s wealthiest people. The company’s largest shareholder is Galen Weston, whose has an estimated net worth of US$7.4 billion.

They didn't realize the inhumanity and that Israeli forces were capable of killing that many children, and then withholding aid and allowing people to starve. I give them credit for having an open mind and allowing their hearts to grow

People need to understand, most of the inflation is due to irresponsible government spending. For sure, oligopolies has an effect as well. But, year after year of reckless spending and bad fiscal and monetary policy is mostly to blame. But, politicians know that if they dish out tons of cash, we all take the bait, and re-elect them, not realizing the effects on inflation. They know, as a population, we'll take the short term gain, despite the long term pain that arises afterwards. The politicians also know that we'll direct our anger at the wrong people. So, they laugh at us and the grocery stores while they put up this facade of scolding them and use them as scapegoats.
