The s2000 shift housing is built into the top of the transmission casting and a steel shift rod which is thiccer than the driveshaft rides along the top. Much harder for a cable shifter to compete because it's complex, this is evident even in Honda cable shifters ie RSX. I miss my s2k shifter every time i get in the 987, steering wheel sucks too lol Debating the numeric, but not sure I want to do the cables right now due to the amount of stuff/time that needs to come apart
Wow...that looks totally worth it. During my brief Porsche 987.2 ownership, I was so turned off by the shifter that I got a PDK. I never got used to not having a manual and sold the car.
I installed mine on my 2007 997 GT3 RS. installed the shifter and the cables. I love it. You can feel the teeth of the gear box the feed back is so raw. Personally I set it up on the longest throws. I prefer it that way as the shift is still shorter than stock but you need a lot less effort to shift. The cables were actually not that hard to do but a lift is preferable and a second set of hands to push and pull at the same time.
Great video Samed. Love it, $1100 and a day of time to get to 85% of what we love. It is sad that something like this in the Porky is compromised for weight or cost when it is the most direct connection to the driving experience other than the steering wheel and brakes.
@@Danbae69 Well to be fair it doesn’t make sense to comment on a brand. I like Honda I don’t like Honda… Honda make some best iconic cars, and some shitty ones. So dose Ferrari and every single brand. Comparing 997, 991 shifters with s2k, nope. I own 991.2 gt3 manual and s2000, any many other stick shift. S2k is shifting is ranking on the top.
@@et-on8el my dad has a friend who raced professionally and he told me that the feel of the honda shifter is better than porsche. Just bc porsche is a luxury vehicle, doesnt mean they make the best parts. Not even the s2k, honda civics breh their shifter is superior. Btw i fckn hate civics 😂 bc of the looks
Yes on S2000, and the Miata is also far superior. It’s just not something Porsche does well.

Honda and Mazda make better shifters. Fact of life. 🤷🏿♂️
I have driven Many cars and agree 💯. The S2000 Shifter is the absolute best shifting transmission Ever. An absolute joy to drive.
Nice work there, Numeric are the business!! Watch the owner of Numeric snap the Porsche factory cables here - ua-cam.com/video/1VGqeLc5i30/v-deo.html
Have you tried a 2018+ GT3 shifter? I think it is better than 997
What setting did you choose for the numeric? There are three settings you can choose from longer to shorter throws.
Not a clever guy to listen to ….
What he said was 100% true. S2000 has a known superior shifter and transmission feel, and it was designed in 1999.
@@et-on8el as much as i dislike honda, they do have the greatest shifter and porsche is right behind them.
