  • DAX Optimizer is a tool that performs a deep, static analysis of your DAX code, to identify possible performance bottlenecks and provide prioritized suggestions to fix the code starting on the more impactful areas.
The tool is the result of years of research and development, it was unveiled in June 2023 and has been in public preview since October 2023 - now we are very close to the general availability and almost feature complete!
We will explore the tool with Marco Russo, who participated in the development since the beginning and can provide any kind of insights about how to get the best from DAX Optimizer.
    GUEST BIO (Marco Russo) 👤

Looks like this tool only Analyzes the DAX and tells what are the issues, but not certainly optimizes it automatically. To me, the price is quite high for just analyzing it. At the end, I still need to fix DAX myself. I wish there are cheaper options. But I appreciate the efforts went into making this tool.

I understand that the expectations may differ, but if you think that the product isn't worth the price, it makes sense you don't use it.
Reaching this level of accuracy required years of investment. Fixing the code automatically would be possible in a limited number of cases; there are too many assumptions that should be made to make sure that the code replacement works. Believe me, we studied this accurately, and we could fix a few cases automatically, but it wouldn't be fair to sell a service that fixes measures in just 10% of the cases.
We prefer full transparency: this tool helps a developer. Our idea is that the cost is worth the gain in productivity. We might be wrong, of course. Time will tell.
      Thank you for your comment!

If you use a monthly subscription, you can pay 70 $ and have 5 models with 20 runs for that one month?

My suggestion is to start with the service subscription. You can also share it between the two developers (you should assign it to a group - we still haven't documented it, but it's already available; wait a few weeks for the full documentation).
