I'm new to utube, so this might be a little late!! That is exactly how to let the carpet relax for that stretch! Latex in the gap, finally someone else who does this, that's how I was taught. I latex all transitions. Seen some of your other videos! Try double stripping your power walls and see if that saves you some time and wear n tear on the old body! Thanks and good luck!
Great technique. 👍 You may have mentioned seam sealer used like this in another video that I haven't seen yet. It's fantastic that you showed that because I doubt that one out of every 150 installers would do that even though they should. I've also noticed since I started watching you that you use a carpet trimmer to trim the edge along the tile. I have never thought of using a trimmer in that method. I built my own little tool for doing that but it's much slower.
I would never use seam sealer/latex in the channel like that. Never had too, never will. Drop of the spray or double sided ON the gripper rods (tackstrip) and tuck plenty into the channel. Think of the next guy having to uplift that mess of latex and saxony welded to the edge of the tiles!
Enjoy your videos, from one installer to another. I’m a firm believer of that you can learn something from everyone. I’ll use this method or get my steamer because that works absolute wonders!
As stated in a previous comment, from one installer to another, great video man. I’ve been installing for 11 years now and have never seen or considered loosening it up like that. Can’t wait to test it out myself. Also like the idea of some latex in the gulley. Great work!
FloorsbySouthernboys without the stretchers that would be a costly mistake. It was short to start with after using the stretcher you had to much😂 plus I like the trick of easing the carpet first before giving it the full stretch.
Sometimes your carpet will come 12‘1“ or 12‘2“ and sometimes it will come 11‘11“ or 11‘10“, never really know until you get the product, better safe than sorry if you’re not experience at Carpet seaming and just go with a 15‘ x 12‘6“
Gold Coast Flooring | Carpet & Tile Care Yeah that’s quite a stretch for just a 6 foot room there and get her that much of a stretch and a 6 foot that’s pretty dramatic if you ask me
Gold Coast Flooring | Carpet & Tile Care so I thought it was a great opportunity to do this video because it really shows how much you can stretch if you just use this method
the frugal landlord Never from the power structure, I have kicked A hole in it with the kicker, but I have never damaged the carpet with the powers stretchers
So you're the guy that uses a gallon of pad glue on pad & probably a thousand staples in pad on wood sub floors along with all the tile seam sealed when I'm doing a tear out!!!! @ 6:20 dont pull strings cut them lol... just kidding I really like the videos! If you havent already it would be nice if you could do a video on the correct way to glue or tack down pad! When I do tear outs I dont know what is going through the installers minds on what they are trying to accomplish! I was trained glue around the tack strip and tape the seams in most cases...sometimes I'll tear out a 3×5 closet that someone used enough pad glue for a whole room in! Also if you have knowledge on double stick gluing pad down before gluing the carpet on top of it!!! Installers are using multi purpose!!!!! Do most installers not know to use a releasable adhesive on the pad?! If you are educated on this I think a lot of people would benefit from you demonstrating it for them! A releasable adhesive on the pad on a double stick glue down makes the tear out & floor prep for the next installer just a little bit easier!
They use the multi-purpose because it is much cheaper than the takifier, as we call it in Blighty. Release adhesive is about three times the price. The fitter is not worried about the uplift at the end of the carpets life, he/she presumes they will not be lifting it. Well, they hope they won't! (I know this is three years after the event of this post)
@@FloorsbySouthernboys I'm buzzing today my stretchers have been delivered its a set of crain swivel-lock came from the states and I have to say the quality is 10/10 can't wait to see how my fitting looks when I start using them. @@FloorsbySouthernboys my pleasure dude you've taught me so much its crazy!! Plus I'm proud to say that I'm the only fitter in my area that has a set of stretchers.
Jonathon Lisinski That prevents one of the most common repairs there is, putting latex in the goalie next to tile or closet tracks or anything low profile will prevent it from ever raveling or coming loose, and it holds extremely well I have several videos on showing how well that holds

Please dont use it! Unless the tile is super thin in which you can use z bar! It sucks for the next installer or if carpet has to be re stretched & for those who say my installs dont need re stretched maybe not but if there was a stain in the carpet where pad may have to be replaced before it is cleaned you may run into a problem...I'm not a huge fan of z bar or seam sealing ceramic tile but I will say I have done it too lol...but this guy making these videos is very knowledgeable! I've seen UA-cam videos that make me shake my head! This guy is dead on with every video I've seen! No need to look anything else up if its something this guy has already covered! Always try to learn & better yourself & I watched quite a few of his videos he is the best I seen on any videos put out there
@@troyfowler6862 I know this is an old video and that your comment is old but people keep reading these anyway. I found that the same sealer if the carpet is tucked into it solidly and with a much tighter Gap and the one shown here, the sealer when the carpet is pounded in embeds/absorbs in the backing, it really doesn't actually stick to the floor all that much. It does keep the carpet from rattling but it also helps it hold it shape in the gully so that can't relax upwards and start to unravel. I removed the job once that I had installed years earlier and the sealer absorbed so well that I had to look closely to see if I had actually put sealer in there. It really didn't stick much at all to the substrate, it absorbed into the backing. If you ever had to stretch the carpet that direction you would probably stretch enough to trim off that sealed edge anyway.

we used to insist our installers vacuum when they were finished with a job, customers loved it, plus you can trim your seems when your done.
Steve Bryan it is much more professional to vacuum , I agree
Can I stretch carpet up to 1’ in ?
Yes
On the topic of stretching. If my room is 12X14 will a 12’ roll be wide enough to cover the room? Or will I have to get the 15’ roll?
15 feet wide

tack strip to us in the uk sir is called gripper rod. 😉
