  • How to build your very own beach wheels. Comparing to Wheeleez at a fourth of the cost! Credit for this idea goes to John Sims - check out his video "Homemade Wheeleez Beach Cart" - this is just my take on it. Enjoy and thanks for watching!

    I like what you did.
    I would like to make a suggestion if you don’t mind.
    I am going to do this also but instead of wood may I suggest going to Walmart and buying large HDPE cutting boards. The HDPE will last forever and not swell or warp.

    Awesome man! Building a set this weekend. Beats paying $90 bucks for the "commercial" beach wheels. Thanks for sharing.

    Hello great idea, one question.
    How do you prevent puncture?

    Sweet!!!! Had I done it over again, I would maybe use diamond plate aluminum for the 'hubs' in addition to long angled valve stems to keep from having to make a big hole. THANKS man!

      Hey, thanks for the idea, John! Really excited to use them again this summer.

      hi john- what an impressive series of videos/comments/discussion since your original many years ago! question- how did you deal with the sharp cut edge of the aluminum disc against the tube? and what is the width of the "rim" from one surface of plywood to the other? Thanks!

      @@DeepakGupta-pw3pr Thank you Deepak! I sanded the aluminum rounded so there were no sharp edges, and the width was 4 inches.

    I so going to do thìs. I wonder, the four PVC post, would it be better to move them out more to the inside of the tire to help it stay center?

    This video is AWESOME! But 1 Question.... Do you think they could support 300 pounds with two wheels?

    Joey ScottI have posted video 1 of 2 for my wheel build. I'll post the finished product at a later date. Check it out and let me know what you think. It's titled "Homemade Beach Wheels - Part 1"
    Thanks for taking the time to make a detailed video. It saved me a lot of money!

    How have they held up? Have you had to replace the inner tube?

  • @joestanford3981
    @joestanford3981 9 років тому +1

    Looking forward to video on how they work. Also, when you glued the PVC pipes on the inner wheel, didn't you make it non removable? Even if you take out the bolts the bulge and the glued pvc won't let it come apart.

      @buck91hunter  9 років тому +2

      Hey Joe, you're right! I actually realized this as well before glueing them together. I'm not too worried about it though because the idea is to not have to take them off unless of course they are punctured and need replacing. If that's the case, the tire would be deflated, leaving a gap in between the discs. Remove the bolts, and use a coping saw/hack saw to access and cut out the PVC. Yes, you would have to make another one, but it would be a quick and easy fix assuming you had some PVC left. So overall I'm not too worried, but it's definitely a good idea and something to consider! Thanks for the comment.

      buck91hunter One more thought. Any reason not to move the bolts further out so that the PVC on the bolts touch/support the tube?

    • @buck91hunter
      @buck91hunter  9 років тому +2

      That's also a good idea. I guess it would depend on the load as to whether or not that would be necessary, because with the 4.5" gap and the tire fully inflated the fit is extremely snug; however, if you are starting the build from scratch it definitely wouldn't hurt to have the bolts spaced out more to also act as a support for the tube. Another option would be to use a wider diameter PVC (1.5"-2"). Like I said, this is my first take/attempt at these so I'll probably learn more after I am able to test them out and suggest modifications if necessary in the next video. Thanks!

      Hey Joe, I just posted part 2. The wheels worked very well in the sand. Check it out and let me know what you think. I recommended your suggestions in the video.

    How are the wheels holding up? Have you been using it regularly this summer?
    In the Part 2 video, would it be accurate if I guessed you had about 100 lbs. loaded when you were pulling your cart on sand? Not sure if you have an exact number, but how heavy do you think the wheels could hold with the suggested improvements applied?

    Looks very cool, but here in the UK we have lots of clamshells on our beaches, so these would puncher very quickly.

      Nice attempt, but I'm betting that once any significant weight is placed on the axle, the tires will not be able to support and stay in place long enough to receive a puncture.

    so you didnt put any fillers in between the plywood?

    hi can you please make a video with what would happen if you put 2 wheelbarrel wheels together on 1 side and 2 on the other side or some smaller wheels.

    • @buck91hunter
      @buck91hunter  8 років тому

      Hi Jose,
      Thanks for the comment and sorry for the late response. I only have the two wheelbarrow tires at the moment so unfortunately I can't do that; however, I don't think that idea would be of much help. The purpose of these wheels is to be buoyant enough to glide over the sand with a heavy load. Unless you tried letting some air out of them, they would be too dense and drag through the sand which I've unfortunately experienced first hand. Good luck!

    Hear's a headsup on how i solved my flat tire problems, I had on hand, 2- 13" x 4"x 5/8"tubeless tires w/ 5/8" axle...i started by slightly over inflating both tires to insure their beads were seated, taking a 3/8" drill bit, just big enough for the insulation foam quill, drill a hole in the sidewall, then drill a 7/16" hole in the tread on top at 180deg from the 1st. Schrader valve shld be 90deg on the right or left ( leave valve in place or this won't work )Then insert insulation foam quill in bottom small hole & begin filling tire, fill until foam begins to exit top hole, stop filling then (it expands ), leave overnight to harden, takes about 2 1/2 cans per tire. tire must be upright w/ no weight on it. Use stainless steel axle if possible but an allthread from Lowe's will work, u''ll just be changing out more often stainless just makes life easier. I 've used the foam method on the front tires of my 60hp tractor, 3 riding lawn mowers & Harbor Freight hand dolly as well as Beach Cart, it was strictly from self preservation, for several yrs I was the "Tire Man" on my place, at any given time a piece of equipment has sporting a flat tire, I cldn't walk out the door with out coming face to face with another flat, I heard about this idea couple yrs ago, since then no flats. Harbor Freight has pneumatic tires on sale, 10" & rim for $5.95, (can't get cheaper that, man). Picking up a couple of these puppy's for $13, foaming & mounting them is a whole lot less time managing tire pressures & fixing flats, "0"flats mean a lot more fishing time, not taking anything away from ur creative wheels, I think they're great but I fish on beaches in the compacted sand zone between the waves breaking on shore & soft sand, I drive on this packed sand & I pull my cart on it too, the few times I've encountered loose sand has been no problem so I don't have a need for Wheelz or low pressure tires. Im just giving a headsup a solution to my problem. Good Luck!

      harbor freight also sells the inner tube for those 10" tires for $5 ... save the $4 cans of foam and all that work , at least it will save you in less flats for sure.

    beaches are full of shells and parking lots are even worse....I wonder how long they would hold up

    • @buck91hunter
      @buck91hunter  8 років тому

      Thanks for the comment. Yeah I agree that you definitely need to use caution; however, I used them for a full week rolling through the parking lot and through the sand (with shells) and they did great! I was very impressed with the durability and thickness of the rubber! From a cost perspective and with comparison to the Wheeleez, you could stand to replace one or two if you needed and still come out to about half to 2/3s of the cost.

      the wheeleez are crazy expensive....there is another wheel used, its a little less expensive, I'm sure you have seen them on the beach..same size as wheeleez only orange...I see a lot of guys using these now

      I found the wheels and wheel kits for the fish n mate carts, but still pricey. When I have time maybe I'll experiment and make a couple of these and see how much weight they will hold.
