Yeah, stuff on that scale you really want to let the FD know about in advance (wasn't there a "What now?" "Call the police?" before they lit it?), they'd be happy to send a crew to watch/use it for training/keep you safe if you're a semi-reputable production studio. Although they might take issue with burning a car, that's ... really bad for the environment, in addition to the safety issues. Congrats on violating a bunch of federal laws, I guess?
Maybe the absolute end of the outro could use it. For example: one asks the other (including guests) Q: why bother with _____? A: Cause I'm a Modern Rogue!™
Yo, quick shoutout to whoever does research and puts the correct info on screen. I feel like ive genuinely learned something whenever i pause to read it
You know, after all these years of trying, I'm starting to question the decision to give these guys access to thermite, but just to make sure, let's give them a few more years...
Tip if you are making this: get a metal drum (for big batches a 5 or 20 gallon sealable drum for example, for small tests a coffee or nut can with a TIGHT seal lid should work) and set it on a rolling rig (you can make one out of a few canned food cans and some metal or wood rods and 2x4s) use your hands (or attach a crank handle, if you have a small controllable motor you can power this but low speed control is a MUST) and SLOWLY spin the drum, it should mix the powder evenly, you want to hear a Little bit of it falling from the upward spinning side. Mix as long as you have time for before the experiment. Leave about 1 hr post-mixing before opening the drum, this will let the inside cloud fully precipitate onto the batch. The set up is very similar to a rock polishing set up, however do not use one of those as they spin at a speed Far too fast and would likely leak dust
@@eldorados_lost_searcher actually not far off, although they had much lower control on their parts and much more volatile machinery, however, for better or worse, powder mixing has not really changed all that much over the last few hundred years. Well short of some of the super advanced micropowder mixing that uses all sorts of high end electrical systems to static mix, but thats a Whole lesson in vacuums, power grids, and safety measures
I remember when Brian put on the gloves to cook that steak, my only thought was "those aren't the kind of gloves you want for this", they just look too tight fitting to me
I really thought it was going to be like a completely vertical lightsaber and go completely through the safe. I remember in AIT we were taught to use these grenades to melt the enemy's engine blocks, I just can't remember if they were thermite or white phosphorus. Ironically enough, the MREs they ate were the same ones I had during my service!
hahaha the sparkler trick is something i used to do with friends as a young teenager. The only difference was that we filled up kinder eggs, duct taped them and used one last sparkler as a fuse
I'm only 1:40 in but so far nobody's mentioned that it's probably not a good idea to eat food infused with a bunch of thermite vapors and smoke Based on the prison ramen I'm thinking that might not be coming at all
There are class specific extinguishers (Class D) that are made specifically for use on combustible metals like magnesium or titanium, instead of a phosphate based extinguisher agent it uses sodium chloride Stay safe y’all! Keep up the incredible work 👍
I want y'all to do a video in the same vein as your pipes, whiskey, tea, and cigar videos but for red wine. It's been an somewhat unapproachable topic for me.
They didn't even mix it evenly. A un even mix can actually make the thermite to explode They were just lucky that the mix did start "burning " at all. And not killing themselves. Where is the safety guy?
Good trick I discovered by accident is to wrap small amount of thermite in aluminum foil. put it in a fire and wait until it is very hot, then tap it with a long stick
There are coffee cans that have bottoms that you twist to activate a thermite reaction inside a metal tube in the can, it heats up the coffee and the coffee keeps the metal container for the reaction from melting.
Waiting in anticipation for a DIY thermal lance how-to video. Attacking the hinge is somewhat pointless on decent safes with correct design. The locking mechanism actuates live bolts, however the are typically a set of dead/static bolts or a plate/bar behind the hinge that swings in behind the rebate/inner frame when the door is closed. These prevent the door from being pulled out when the hinge is removed provided the live bolts are engaged.
I swear… one day I’m going to see a title that’s just “we lit 1000lbs of thermite on top of our workshop to see what would happen” with a picture of you two in handcuffs… I’m impressed you could buy 80 pounds worth and not get put on a list, that we know of… anyway I feel as a long time viewer it is very important to say this for new viewers, believe it or not they are actually more tame than they were 6 years ago… though with this last incident I’m questioning that assessment, suprised no one reset the injury counter
Did you guys do like 3 Google searches on how to use Thermite ??🤨. This is all wrong 🤦♂️. You got through the top eventually, but you could’ve got the hinge pin 1st try if you did it right.
you goobers, the pin and hinge were so resistant because they're EXTRA THICC and so could absorb and distribute a lot more thermal energy without melting, where the walls of the safe are far thinner metal and much easier to bring to melt
This video feels like community service after they torched the car. They were probably cooking dinner for the fire department. Still amazing and informative tho!
To extinguish a metal fire, the only best option is letting it burn out no matter the size. You'll use several times less water by using it to keep everything around cool and damp, making fire lines and waiting that it runs out of fuel, fire fighters use foam in electric car fires mostly to keep the road from melting and the rest of the potential fuel off-limits, the batteries will have to burn out entirely before the fire can peter out. The fire is too hot and it can't be choked, if it's small enough you can try and break it off so you separate the fire from some of the fuel and let it burn faster, but you risk spreading the fire around, if not lighting yourself on fire.
... It's just a fire safe, I imagine a crow bar weeks be enough to open it. They're meant to protect your stuff from fire, not thieves. Way to attack at where the enemy is strongest
Been a subscriber for years but I gotta say this video's title is the kind you stumble upon the internet, click on it just for the laughs and gets you into the FBI watchlist
as someone who concentrated sparkler powder to make fountains and melt batman i can tell you it will light your wrist on fire when you try to light it and i'll have to run to my neighbor's pool and dip my flaming arm in it that thing burnt down to the bones
not wearing gloves is safer than wearing gloves that are not raided for the heat because the ones that are not rated for the heat will melt to your hands and call third degree burns please ease get some proper fire rated gloves
when I heard "rounding errors" and chemistry, I instantly thought "this could get real fun real quick!" I also comfort others by declaring, "I'm a safe cracker!".
Those sentry safes are such garbage. The cheap sheet metal on the outside is the only protection. Get past that and it's drywall and a plastic liner. Even the cheapest cash box is better because the safe lock has plastic gear that last just long enough for the warranty to expire.
any fire that can burn hot enough can melt steel beams. Fun Fact!: while jet fuel caused the fire to grow as large as it did on 9/11, the real heat came from the reems and reems of paper on the storage floors. paper catches at 480f, but once lit and with enough fuel can burn at almost 1500f. while not hot enough to "melt" the steel, it was far above the heat needed to soften even the most hardened industrial metal. a combination of the steel softening, along with the initial impact and the corners cut in the safety standards for the twin towers (single long steel supports instead of multiple interlaced supports that would take up more room and so give less office space) lead to the collapse we saw on 9/11 source: i'm so fucking obsessed with 9/11. everything from the towers to the situation on the ground and the impact it has on us and global culture to this day
You can also use thermite to melt a car and meet your local fire department. Make sure you cosplay a dad for the post apocalypse.
Lmao

You know what BECAUSE I AM A MODERN ROGUE!!!
Grilled cheese or perhaps get away bad guys is a fair contender.

Sounds like how they used to mix gunpowder.

The most "practical" use for thermite is to weld together large masses of iron/steel, like railroad tracks.
Another use is endangering you and destroying a car
I really thought it was going to be like a completely vertical lightsaber and go completely through the safe. Well, thermite really only releases aluminium oxide as vapours, which isn’t great for your health, but probably won’t kill you

I find it funny how this comes out after the last thermite video.

I know that I'm THAT person.
There are coffee cans that have bottoms that you twist to activate a thermite reaction inside a metal tube in the can, it heats up the coffee and the coffee keeps the metal container for the reaction from melting.
mix 50/50 sulfur and magnesium but only a tiny bit and it will kick off instantly
ideally wouldn't the fire proofing of the safe make it better to melt through because it would stop you from melting what you are trying to steal
why do i feel this video got put out right after the car thermite video just so the cops ask less questions
LMAO u guys went from having a red pan to a white pan 😂😂

Regarding cooking with this. This level of flame might work with a wok for making something like fried rice or stir fry. Uncle Roger would approve.

Man they melted that car with like 80lbs of thermite, and now this video of "practical uses for thermite" ,how much thermite did Brian buy🤣🤣
120 lbs if I remember correctly. Now they have to find a use for 40 lbs 😂
wow.. Came from whisky tribe.. I am going trough your catalog tonight while sipping on my Ardbeg..! thank you for the entertainment guys
Awesome! Thank you!
Now this is Modern Rogue!! I love it!
Try adding some zinc powder id guess about the same amount as 1 part to add to the 8+3 iron/aluminum, stand back a few feet, and use a small amount.
What does the zinc powder do?

I would like this t-shirt please.
