    I own the BMPCC and Kern Switar 10 mm too. I should make beautiful pics like this here.

    Gorgeous. This video sold me on this lens 100%. I really want the whole switar line. The vignetting is really the only issue at all. How did you up the grain on those corners?

      It's a bunch of soft circular power windows in DaVinci Resolve with gain applied in each.

      I can grantee you all Kern-Paillard Switar's looks so damn good with bmpcc, best lenses I ever used for my bmpcc

    I love love love this set up. Would love to hear more about the lens and adapter. I got a cheap m43 adapter and my Reflex 10mm retrofocus lens doesn't infinity focus...does this? I would be very much interested in trying this combo for a section of our documentary we are doing.

    There is a company in the UK that makes adapter to 52mm filter holders, should you want to use NDs, etc. (can't remember the name but could look it up)

      Hi, if you ever find this adapter name, i would be really interested. However it will certainly need at least 2 adapters 'cause Switar/Yvar 10mm, 16mm, 25mm, 50mm, 75mm 100mm and 150mm does not share the same rear thread size !

      @@hugodelsart9966 Totally. That's why they build them on order.

    I get that diffusion effect at full aperture on the 26mm RX, do you get the same with your RX 10mm?

    Hi ...beautiful clear footage... very engaging cinematography. So no cropping? just applying a circular mask and increasing gain outside the mask area? Also - was this on infinity focus the whole time? Thanks !

    • @OlliNiemitalo
      @OlliNiemitalo  6 років тому

      Hi Cypher. That's right about no cropping, and I used a few soft circular masks to get the right gain curve vs. radius. I focused dynamically while filming.

      nice... thanks Olli. Thats quite good dynamic focusing!

    Hi, did you do any sharpness boosting in post? The footage has a vintage feel but with a modern clarity--I love it!

    • @OlliNiemitalo
      @OlliNiemitalo  7 років тому

      No sharpening. Thanks!

      Sorry to bother you again! I just wanted to ask before I buy: Which version of this lens do you have? I've seen two versions, one is longer and has pegs sticking out to adjust the focus and aperture...the other is shorter with no pegs. Thanks so much for your time and take care!

      No pegs in this one. I actually ended up buying another lens like this for 146 €. :D

    Messages copied from previous version:
    Steven Sclafan:
    "Excellent look. The Switar is so sharp. Do you remember what ISO you had the camera set to? 400? 800?"
    Olli Niemitalo:
    "ISO 200 and shutter angle was 11.25 deg in the outdoors scenes"
    Steven Sclafani:
    "Thanks for getting back to me. ISO 200 looks good. I've never gone lower than 400. Outdoors I'll use an ND filter, but after seeing your footage, I need to experiment with 200."
    Olli Niemitalo:
    "I just read that one should always shoot at ISO 800, as the sensor is natively ISO 800. Compared to that, ISO 200 and ISO 400 do not reduce noise in proportion to highest recorded highlights, but instead have lower dynamic range than ISO 800 and get burned highlights easier if you compensate by using a larger aperture or by increasing shutter angle. What a disappointment."
    Steven Sclafani:
    "Yeah, on this camera lower ISOs can be misleading. You're not getting optimal low noise performance by being at 200. It's not a deal breaker though. I find 800 with an ND filter works well, and honestly 400 still has plenty of dynamic range. Looking forward to more of your footage."

    would you recomend this lens for the bmpcc?

    • @OlliNiemitalo
      @OlliNiemitalo  7 років тому

      Yes I would, I liked it a lot. You need to use post-processing to get vignetting under control. It was not a problem for me. You may or may not like the "circular blur" (2:04 in the video). There is also the AR version that may be sharper than H16 RX, on BMPCC.

      Thank you for the quick answer! I'm literally about to buy it right now.
      It looks plenty sharp! and I really like the circular blur

      The only practical sharpness problem is trying to focus to infinity with larger apertures, then corners and center won't be fully in focus at the same time, in my experience.
