Fantastic series with Lloyd Bridges & written by Rod Serling. Loved Lloyd Bridges in Sea Hunt - I was a little kid in a small town in Florida. Didn’t know about this western but saw plenty of great ones The Texan, The Tall Man, etc. of course Gunsmoke & Have Gun Will Travel, Rifleman. This series would have been a favorite.

This is 30 minitues western tv in top form. no doubt. The loner was broadcasted in japan too, but somehow underrated over here. Glad to see it again ,with the excellent title music. Thanks again.

Another made for TV series never seen. This with Lloyd Bridges and written by Rod Serling! Grew up watching Twilight Zone and Sea Hunt!
There was a time this country was like this. People would help others and those who were the recipients repaid that kindness by becoming productive members of the community.
Nowadays they just want more. If they don't get it, they leave.

This came out in 65', reflecting the time , the economy was okay and people still had life long jobs like at the Steel mills and car plants , also the draft and the war took most of the young adults , so crime was down some , now there is too many people and people are living longer and we are running out of everything . Rod Serling was a man with a vision and tried to do it with the Twilight Zone and burnt him out . There is a few videos on here interviewing him .

Dan Reese : If you were alive then, you misremember the times. Kennedy, Jack & Bobby assassinated along with Dr King. LA Rebellion in 1964 burned for two weeks, destroyed two square miles of Watts, never rebuilt. Thousands arrested, hundreds killed. Riots, burning, looting in every major city in 1966, 1967, 1968, 1972, 1974. Anti-war protests whose activists became university professors, setting the stage for today's "Antifa." These Westerns were nostalgia for "simpler times," which never existed. Post-war American
      westward expansion was
an explosive, violent time, although more people in the West died of starvation than from any other cause.

Michael Fleming is correct. The welfare state didn't exist before the 1960s. Mutual-aid societies populated the country for 2 centuries and because of that spirit no one ever starved in the fledgling nation known as the USA.

Big-time Lloyd Bridges fan here. I really don't remember this show as a kid (we probably watched Uncle or something like that) but this is a pretty cool show. You can tell Serling had a hand in it - the story and script both had high production values. Too bad it didn't last longer so I would have had a crack at watching it first-run. Now I have to go to Walmart and find the DVD set for this series!

It was an interesting choice for lead actor by Rod Serling. Bridges became somewhat a loner himself for a short time after he became a “friendly witness” for the government and ratted on his fellow actors and friends. I forgave him and still enjoy his work. Rest in peace, Mr. Bridges.

+Richard K So he testified for the government against a Communist front group, there's nothing wrong with that. I'm sick of hearing people parrot pro-Soviet propaganda.
Communism is responsible for the deaths of more people in the last 100 years than any other political system and it's a disgrace to our country to hear it defended in any way. Perhaps you should talk to people whose families were murdered by those godless thugs before you defend it.

Cynicism happened, America is dumbing down, and everyone in Hollywood believes in either things that blow up or things with a built-in audience so it could be redone and, in some cases, destroyed. (Green Hornet, anyone?). It's all about the money now.

Years ago I had an elderly friend who came from Latvia as a boy around the time of World War 2. He was Jewish and his family had a local department store. Many stories of early Twentieth Century life including stories about Prohibition and New York in the 30s and 40s. Like Hyman, he also loved America. Once I asked him if he still had relatives in Latvia. He sadly replied that they were all killed by the Nazis.
