It has been said that a story always needs to create a sympathy or at least an understanding for the vilian before the bad act occurs, or the audience won't care what happens to him/her. Though parts of film well done and well acted, I think this was the film's flaw.
retread of the Double Indemnity setup but very tight scripting, almost too tight at the top. the suspense nearly killed me, watching the perfect crime unravel.
Double Indemnity also features an insurance man gone bad but the resemblance ends there: A murder and false claim not a heist, and in this movie there's no femme fatale.
I assume you all know the plot, so here's what's wrong. Julian Symons wrote a set of rules for the pure detective novel and the first one was that the investigator should never be the guilty party - murder or just robbery. I don't think Mark Stevens thought about that.
I have to admit, the moment the movie exposed Charlie as the ring leader, I was bummed out and had a hard time watching he rest of it. Maby the should've waited until later in the movie to expose him. But it was a great flick!

I have never seen anyone PULL the plunger on a hypo, unless it was already in a bottle of medicine, just before giving an injection, unless the "doc" was planning to inject air into the person, in which case the person will probably die from clots or whatever that bolt of air in the vein causes. I didn't see any little medicine bottles attached to the syringes, and since the doc used 3 needles, he was hygienically proper so I doubt the men would die...but I'm not that far into the movie yet.

Sunk, all because Lombard insisted on exercising his 2nd amendment rights. Good film. Felicia Farr looked fine as a blonde...although she was no femme fatale. The wife was lethally boring though.
Mark Stevens was the KING of film noir.
