She's usually way too whiny, but I liked her a lot in this show. She gives the guy who tries to assault her a knee in the ___. You know what I mean. She stands up for herself.
Second viewing for me. This is an outstanding classic; story, film noir lighting/cinematography, drama, period props, (e.g. Ford convertible) sets, locations, and moral/spiritual lessons. Thank you VMS.
20:28 The sun does not rise over the ocean in San Francisco or anywhere along the West Coast. It rises in the east.😂 1:15:00 harbors between SF & Monterey: Pilar point (Half moon bay) & Santa Cruz. Good thing I know the area. Lol I love that this was filmed in my hometown. Shelly Winters is one of my all time fav actresses. I enjoyed this film, thanks!
It did rise over the land to the east of the boat at 20:28. I guess you've never seen that, but I've seen it while facing east from out on the water on the west coast, and at Lake Winnipeg, and Lake Superior. It looks just like what they showed here.
Indeed! McNally usually played the villian. So good at it! But in this one and in "Criss Cross" he played cops. And in "No Way Out" he played a kind hearted actor. Quite a versatile actor!
@@jubalcalif9100 Other Stephen McNally "good guy" roles in 1950s movies are Sheriff Munson in A BULLET IS WAITING (1954), Mike Brand in HELL'S FIVE HOURS (1958), and Marshal Frank Emmett in THE FIEND WHO WALKED THE WEST (1958 - a Western remake of KISS OF DEATH).
Other movies released in 1951 in which the cast principals of THE RAGING TIDE are in the cast are as follows: George Sherman (director): TOMAHAWK, TARGET UNKNOWN, and THE GOLDEN HORDE (He directed all three.) Shelley Winters (Connie Thatcher): A PLACE IN THE SUN (for which she was nominated for Best Actress), HE RAN ALL THE WAY (excellent film!), and BEHAVE YOURSELF! Richard Conte (Bruno Felkin): UNDER THE GUN and HOLLYWOOD STORY (excellent film!) Stephen McNally (Lt. Kelsey): AIR CADET, APACHE DRUMS, IRON MAN, and THE LADY PAYS OFF (excellent film!) Charles Bickford (Hamil Linder): JIM THORPE -- ALL-AMERICAN and ELOPEMENT Alex Nicol (Carl Linder): TOMAHAWK, TARGET UNKNOWN, and AIR CADET John McIntire (Corky Mullins): UNDER THE GUN, YOU'RE IN THE NAVY NOW, THAT'S MY BOY, and WESTWARD THE WOMEN (excellent film!) Tito Vuolo (Barney Schriona): THE MATING SEASON (excellent film!), THE ENFORCER (also an excellent film, well worth watching!), UP FRONT, THE GREAT CARUSO, SATURDAY'S HERO, and THE RACKET Chubby Johnson ("General" Ball): NIGHT RIDERS OF MONTANA, THE SCARF (excellent film!), WELLS FARGO GUNMASTER, FORT WORTH (excellent film!), LOST CONTINENT, FORT DODGE STAMPEDE, and WESTWARD THE WOMEN Minerva Urecal (Johnnie Mae Swanson): TEXANS NEVER CRY, STOP THAT CAB, THE GREAT CARUSO, DEAR BRAT, and MASK OF THE AVENGER (STOP THAT CAB and THE RAGING TIDE are the only two of those 1951 movies for which she received screen credit.)
Some interesting trivia: There is an error in the IMDB "Cast & Crew" listing for THE RAGING TIDE. Ernest K. Gann's novel "Fiddler's Green" - the source material for the screenplay of THE RAGING TIDE, also written by Mr. Gann - is, indeed, credited on-screen at the end of the acting-credits section of the opening credits. "Because I'm not Catholic.....": Actually, Charles Bickford played Catholic priests in MUTINY IN THE BIG HOUSE in 1939 (Father Joe Collins), in THE SONG OF BERNADETTE in 1943 (Father Peyramale) - for which he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar - and in GUILTY OF TREASON in 1950 (Cardinal Joszef Mindszenty). He was also happily married "till death do us part" for 51 years to only ONE woman - nee Beatrice Loring - from 1916 until his death of a blood infection on 9 November 1967, age 76. (He was 60 years old when THE RAGING TIDE was filmed). Charles and Beatrice Bickford had two children: a daughter and a son. In 1948 (3 years before THE RAGING TIDE), Tito Vuolo (who plays Barney Schriona in THE RAGING TIDE) played Papa Roma, father of Martin Rome (played by Richard Conte) in the 20th Century-Fox crime drama/film noir CRY OF THE CITY - which is also an excellent film!
Let me write my own ending...Bruno turns himself in with hope make parrol in 25 years, fisherman and his boy become partners after boy does a short stretch in jail and gets married to Shelly Winters
Of the movies which I have seen over the years in which Richard Conte is part of the cast, I quite enthusiastically recommend the following as WELL worth watching: GUADALCANAL DIARY (1943) THE PURPLE HEART (1944) A WALK IN THE SUN (1945) SOMEWHERE IN THE NIGHT (1946) 13 RUE MADELEINE (1947) THE OTHER LOVE (1947) CALL NORTHSIDE 777 (1947) CRY OF THE CITY (1948) HOUSE OF STRANGERS (1949) THIEVES' HIGHWAY (1949) THE SLEEPING CITY (1950) UNDER THE GUN (1951) HOLLYWOOD STORY (1951) THE RAIDERS (1952) THE BLUE GARDENIA (1953) HIGHWAY DRAGNET (1954) THE BIG COMBO (1955) NEW YORK CONFIDENTIAL (1955) THE BROTHERS RICO (1957) THEY CAME TO CORDURA (1959) THE EYES OF ANNIE JONES (1964) THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD (1965) A number of these movies can - or could - be found on UA-cam, and a number of others can probably be found and checked out through your local public library.
4 SETS of ads by 28 minutes, and another SET OF 2 OR MORE at each of these points; 37:35, 56:46, 1:05:01, 1:11:26, AND 1:11:33, 1:16:56, 1:23:41, 1:27:16, and 1:32:45. Unbelievable! 13 sets! Shelley was just starting to get the fats here. I just saw a film from about a year or two earlier than this and she still had a toned body. By '51 she was already down the road to obesity.
Shelley was a great actress, overlooked for years.stood the test of time, roomed with marilyn
Shelley also won an Oscar!
But she made whiny voice, and she got SO fat! In those days it wasn't normal to be so grossly fat.
She's usually way too whiny, but I liked her a lot in this show. She gives the guy who tries to assault her a knee in the ___. You know what I mean. She stands up for herself.
@@pearlbrandwein4731 Indeed! Actually Shelley won TWO Oscars for Best Supporting Actress ("The Diary of Anne Frank" and "A Patch of Blue:).

Totally agree. 😊
What a good film! And happy ending!!! Conte was excellent in this.

Fantastic flick! Bickford a grest character actor. Conte always intense and McNally playing a cop! 😮Thats a switch, usually plays a ruthless bad guy.

Yes! And even though she was no Hope Emerson (hubba hubba!), she was quite alluring & attractive!
A major casting success...including Charles Bickford....I'd watch them if they were in an ad
