I love this game. I consider it one of the major games that assured my love of Shotguns in games long before my parents let me play most first person shooters.
Those shelves are looking pretty amazing! Haha, this review gives me a little deja vu :P The art in this game is phenomenal! I'm always shocked what 16-bit artists were able to accomplish! I do like the cover-shooter vibe. I can't think of any game that did this before this game. It may have invented the genre, even if the 3D versions feel pretty different. @5:20 you've seen Samurai Cop from 1991, right? If not, this guy looks like he's modeled after that character XD The sound track is definitely well done. I agree.
Thanks, I'd love to do a gameroom tour sometime! Yes, I have definitely covered this game before hehe as a retrospective. I'm trying to rerelease some previous reviews that I've done with different formating, titles, and thumbnails to see if they will do any better for me. The artwork in the game is soooo good. I love the style. The cover shooing system is very unique and it fits great for this. Haha, I have never even heard of Samurai Cop but man do I want to now!! The OST was near perfect as you make your way through the levels. Thanks for watching buddy!
@@TigerChainsawVideoGames just a warning that Samurai Cop is aggressively bad. If you want, there is a RiffTrax version that makes it a little more palatable ;)
This is a game I’ve been interested in playing for years, and looks awesome! The visuals for the SNES are great, and love how atmospheric the game looks. Definitely bumping this one up on my list of games to play sooner rather than later! Awesome review, TC!
A reboot would be crazy! I would love to see one. I will definitely have to check out the Superman game that Blizzard made. I had no idea. Thanks for watching!
That shooting behind you mechanic is just *Chef's Kiss* 90s perfection 👌 The sound design seems better than some modern AAA games. Cool review, and I might have to play this 😎👍
You said it best with the chef's kiss! Such a 90s move. I love the sound effects for this game. It just felt so much more polished. Thanks for checking this out my guy!
Nicely done review; the thing that always drew me to this game was that fantastic Jim Lee cover; such a selling point to me back in my X-Men 90s heyday!
Yes! The team mentioned how iconic it was to have Jim Lee do the cover for this game. I can imagine how exciting that must have been. Thanks for watching! : )
You can get this game for modern consoles in the Blizzard Arcade Collection. It has the Snes version, the 32x version and Definitive edition with an onscreen map. It also features: RPM Racing(Snes) Rock n roll racing (Snes, Genesis and Definitive) The Lost Vikings (Snes, Genesis and definitive) The Lost Vikings 2 (Snes,) Rewind, save states and filters are provided on all games, you can watch and drop into gameplay at any time and the Blizzard "museum" is packed with magnificent Making-of material including video interviews. One of the best classic collections I've played.
Far from a hidden gem for me, I couldn't wait for this game to come out and was thrilled when my local rental store got it in. My brother and I were huge fans of Prince of Persia, Flashback, and what we knew as Out of This World so seeing this in Nintendo Power put it on our radar. It's not quite in the same league as those games being much more action oriented, but it's definitely very strong. It reminds me very much of Doom in it's level design and structure.
That is awesome you and your brother were on top of Blackthorne when it was releasing. I didn't know anyone back in the day that had it. With the games you mentioned, this would have been perfect for your taste. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
Very well done my friend! I love this game but on the 32X 🤷🏼♂️ You really provided some great info on this, great to watch! And I’ll be playing Midnight Club on the 360 today and some Red Dead 😎
Man, so many people have reached out and said they enjoy the 32X version. I didn't even know it was on that! Heck yeah man, enjoy your 360 gaming tonight. Some classics you'll be playing! Thanks for watching.
Nice review! I've barely ever played this game as I rented it once, tried it, didn't like it and never tried it again! I've never been a huge fan of platformers to begin with, so I'm not surprised of my reaction to it back then, lol! Great video and keep up the good work!
That is really cool you actually rented it back in the day! Platformers can be very hit or miss with me. This one stuck with me and I enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment buddy.
This is a very solid SNES game! I would give it a shot if you have time. The platforming and style of combat is pretty unique. Thanks for watching buddy!
I really enjoyed Blackthorne on SNES and I agree with your review. I would like to see a rom hack though that adds the 32X content, which I have yet to play.
I had no idea that the 32X version (which everyone seems to be commenting about) had extra content! That's really cool and I'm jealous of it. Thanks for watching!
I didn't even know there was a 32X version but so many of you keep telling me about it! I guess there's even some added content in that one. Thanks for checking this out buddy.
Nice video! I think it's funny his name is Kyle, it doesn't fit at all 😂 sounds like a fun game and I also like that he can no look shoot mofos behind him, that's badass
Wow! I was not expecting that final score. The Prince of Persia movement style is very awkward for me. I love the duck and cover battle system but I could not grasp the platforming.
Yeah, I really enjoyed this one! You nailed it with the Prince of Persia movements. It can be very awkward at first, but I managed to get ahold of it. The duck and cover gunplay is so good, I really enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
I love this game. I consider it one of the major games that assured my love of Shotguns in games long before my parents let me play most first person shooters.
The shotgun in this game is so BA. I loved it, especially when he would look behind him and blow the enemy away. Thanks for watching this review!

It's a wonderful game. Definitely try it out and you can beat it in 4-5 hours. The final boss can be pretty tough though. Thanks for watching GCG!
Blackthorne is a unique game that deserves a reboot. Also blizzard made a superman video game for the super nintendo.

Awesome review Seth! I have this on the 32X and it's amazing.
I keep forgetting it was on the 32X! I heard that version even has added content. Pretty cool! Thanks for watching buddy.

Haha, no I don't think Kyle fit in with names. It's a pretty fun game and I love the no look shooting mechanic. Thanks for watching : )

I was 12 in 1994 and never heard of Blackthorn.
Hopefully this video made you want to check it out!
The gunplay looks really fun and makes me want to play it but those jumping and climbing mechanics look way too sluggish.
The gunplay is a lot of fun. That shotty is a beast and when you take down foe after foe you feel like a BA. Thanks for watching, LD!
👍👍
Thanks for watching friend!
The controls and jumping mechanics look awful
You really need to master them with the timing to become a pro.
