I’m a potter and have been watching your videos for a while now. I’m happy to see you hand building! I enjoyed watching your process and how you progressed. Be careful, clay is addictive. Anyway, I’d be happy to give you some tips if you’d like. Happy potting!
@lindseytomlinson-peck9213 Aw thanks for watching :) You are so right about it being addictive!! I have 50lbs more to work with that arrived yesterday haha Any feedback is welcomed :) thank you!!
The beauty of being an artist is that you don’t have to stay within any one medium forever. You can do what feels right. Of course it feels like a risk from a business side of things. But also artists have to play. We have to move and be dynamic whether it’s from idea to idea or medium to medium. I am always proud of you no matter what you take on and experiment with and investing time in play and is a big deal. And only good things will come of this! Can’t wait to see where it goes!! Sometimes there is nothing more refreshing than to learn a completely new skill, and watching you do that here is beautiful.
It’s so funny how I never saw myself as a multidisciplinary artist, but I’m feeling more and more that way as my life goes on :) I commented to someone else that I don’t know what’s driving me to do this right now and I have no end goal outside building a large vessel of some kind, but I’m gonna follow that little voice. And if it’s only play then that is valid and great too! Thanks for watching and commenting, darling!! Love you!
I tried clay a few months ago (no experience at all) and it ended hilariously! Yours are so good! I love you and your mom's ceramics! Its so fun when an artist tries different types of art. Hope you are doing amazing!
Happy Friday the 13th! Hope its going well. Loved this video and watching you learn your way through it. I love the 2nd piece in the line up and glad they all came out okay! Cant wait to see you glaze them!
TGIF 13th edition lolll ;) Thanks for watching and letting us know your fav! I love that one too :) I’m thinking I’ll be having a glaze fest in October with all the items coming out the kiln for holiday! Wish me luck!! 🫠🫠🫠
@FionaCArt oo! Exciting! Can't wait to see it! I host a book club and our meeting this month is at a clay place where you can glaze pieces they sell or paint other things and I'm very excited. I haven't touched clay since I was probably in 5/6th grade lol
Im no way an expert in coil building, but one thing i will tell you is to invest in a wall mounted extruder as 1 it will help save your hands rolling & 2 it will get amost of the air bubbles out of the clay while creating your coils. Dont be afraid to use thick foam shapes to help prevent the coils collapsing in on itself too. And dont forget your hand tools can be used to blend when your fingers aren't getting into the space comfortably. Your doing a great job
Learning to coil build can be very frustrating, once you get it & understand its nuances you'll be amazing. Ive only ever hand built clay, mainly with a terracotta clay mix & coils from a extruder as my hand rolled coils just didn't give me consistency of thickness.
You’re very right! But I’m determined to keep practicing and finding my way through it. Not sure what it is that’s driving me exactly as I have no end goal lol but not everything has to have that, does it? :) Gonna enjoy the ride! And yes, I think I’ll look into extenders soon as a few have mentioned it :) thank you!
Your determination and "keep trying until you create what you know you will" approach has always inspired me and i literally think of you when i am about to give up. I really loved the look of sculptures, so looking forward to glazing. I had never heard of coil building before and like all pottery looks so easy on screen😅 but i am so glad you put up footages of things not going to the plan or holding up definitely helps me. I really learn a lot when shown what can go wrong as i always forget to think of that. Thank you so much. Mum is so cute🥺❤️ supporting you always n holding that piece before firing. I can't become a member at the moment but i love seeing what you may post and get excited for friday🎉
Thank you so much for the lovely comment and for always watching ❤️ Know that having you here means a lot and no pressure about the membership please! I’m glad to hear you think of me when you are about to give up and what I say may give you a wee extra push because I BELIEVE IN YOU!! The world deserves to see your unique creative gifts, friend - never forget that!
What a fun video to watch! Great job….I’m getting ready to do some candle painting for the holidays and it’s very different from my other art. You inspire me to keep going ❤️💐
Thank you for watching as always, Wendy :) Glazing will hopefully be happening in October if all goes to plan! You know I’ll share the results with yall as always :) so many people love that one! It def has a lot of character hahah have a beautiful weekend!!
Thanks for watching :) shoot me an email at fionac.nyc @ gmail.com and I’ll reply with the recipe! I screenshotted it ages ago off the times website lollll
Omgggg that’s a whole story. The short is I thought they were press on’s, but ends out they were glue on’s, so I couldn’t get them off before the kiln unloading lololllll
You seemed to have been making a rather large vessel. It would help to let the lower layer "sit up" for awhile and then continue working when it is firmer. You can not let dry too much. Cover it loosely with plastic wrap and then continue. It may take days. I assume you were slipping and scoring between layers. I study ceramics at Rutgers and was an Art Teacher after that. It still might crack at the seams, but it is the nature of the best. The extruder someone mentioned would make your coils more consistent.
oooooh first comment!!! Loving your coil building ways!!!
