I want Red Feather to release a new edition of the Mary El w/ the ALL the cards so you can choose. I know I would purchase it! Mary El is my soul deck!
I totally agree with you on Tarot of Trees…I also decluttered mine a while back. It’s just an RWS with trees in place of people! So even though I loved the size of it and it was always a perfectly readable deck, the tree theme didn’t feel like it was really giving me tree ENERGY in any way? It was more just an aesthetic, which was fine but meant that it wasn’t really providing anything unique in my collection.
You were on the right track with labeling the prisma visions as impressionist; Eads' style more resembles post-impressionism. But, you know... pot-ay-to, pot-ah-to. 🤷🏽♀️ Thanks for sharing your decluttering process. I really respect when you give yourself that permission to hold off on making a decision or finding alternatives to let go. 👏🏽 Normalize! 👏🏽 Third! 👏🏽 Options! 😁
Didn't realize that I was actually holding my breath through most of this video until you announced that you were keeping the Mary El. (My sigh of relief was oddly surprising.) I bought this deck when it was available several years ago, only to learn a few months later (when I went to actually study it) that it was missing about 20 pages right out of the center of the book. Ok, fine...went to the bookstore and got a new deck... Only to realize once I got it home that the new one was a second edition. (Was brand new to tarot, and didn't understand why there would even BE a 2nd edition.) This was the deck that led me down a path of trying to learn kabbalah, numerology, astrology, and ALL the things ALL at once to the point that I got WAY too confused, and simply gave up on tarot. I stopped collecting, and thought I'd just never understand it. I'm extremely pleased to say I was wrong 😉 it kept calling to me, so i listened, restarted the quest and thirst for knowledge, and am FINALLY understanding... but haven't touched the Mary El just yet...except to admire the artwork, obviously. Once I have a full grasp on the rws courts? Oh yeah...the Mary El and I are going to have a nice, long chat. (Once i figure out how to interpret the 1st edition with the 2nd edition book.) That hierophant card is the best one I've ever seen. Period. I had feelings about it before even understanding what it WAS. Been doing shadow work with the hierophant, and have learned more about myself with that single card than i ever expected. That deck is powerful in more ways than one, and I'm happy that you've chosen to keep it. Why? I don't know. It's uour deck, not mine. Haha! But you never know...it may call to you when you least expect it ❤️
@@elineeugenie5224 me too! I saw the poll, and was like, "no. Just no." Haha! I've been watching for this video every day like my whole life would fall apart or something if I missed it. Ha!
I have the second edition and understood the first edition's Hierophant from the second edition booklet. Essentially the same concept, just not overt. I think the most difficult one to understand might be the High Priestess. You can find great analyses of the deck on UA-cam, look for a video on the twos in the deck. I forgot the UA-camr's name, she also analyzed the Buddha Tarot, looks at the twos extensively and studies the High Priestess too. That one should help.
Hilda is one of my absolute favorites, she pairs so well with Begin and Life Design cards. I love her for positive action focussed readings, or anything about enjoying life and bringing in joy. So glad you didn't get rid of her.
I'm so glad you mentioned the big visions guidebook (even though you don't gel with James R Eads visions decks). It's an amazing book. Big and chonky, luxurious. Weighs a ton! I've never had a hardcover book that's so solid. It's almost a weapon 😂
Every time I work with the Mary-El for a long period of time I see new things and expand my interpretations. I do a deep dive every couple of years and I love it each time.
I totally had a Keanu Reeves "whoa" moment when you were going through the Llewellyn tarot and said "I feel nothing." I realize that I *never* allow myself to feel nothing! Doesn't matter what/who I'm evaluating, I'm compelled to push toward one end of the spectrum or the other. Wasn't always this way, so I wonder how that happened? What a liberating reminder! So yeah, thanks for that 😂
I am honored to be on the chopping block against the Llewellyn, and I'm totally being serious!! 🥰😂 That deck was my first true learning deck and will always be special to me. I'm glad you decided to hang onto it a little while longer 💜
I JUST discovered Prisma Visions and love it. I love impressionist artwork. Van Gogh and Monet are my favorite artists and this deck reminds me of them. You can send it to me and I'll purgatory sit it for you for awhile. 😁
I also got Cosma and Prisma Visions and the big book during that Kickstarter…and I’ve never used either! There’s something about the art close up. I can’t explain it! I also feel like there’s this blue wash over all of Prisma that bothers me.
Regarding group 1, don't feel bad about repurchasing a deck Lisa. Now you know that it wasn't the card stock, it was the art itself. You said you connect to the art far away, and that you like particular cards. Sounds like it might be a good candidate for an art print instead!
Some tough choices! I absolutely love the spacious tarot. I'm surprised that you don't have that one. I feel like you would like it similarly to the elemental tarot majors. I place myself in the spacious tarot easily. I would love a tarot of trees that size. Mine is huge. I struggle with it. Do you have the book for tarot of trees? That really helped me connect with the deck. Thanks for sharing and blessings to you and Peggy. 💫💜💫
I appreciate your doing this, its so tough to declutter. I have all James R. Eads' decks and while I love his artwork and quality, I am never called to read with any of them. I prefer the small size Tarot of Trees and really was disappointed with the large version. I have many editions of the Mary-el and would never part with any of them. I kept the original B&W SKT but sold the Vitruvian so I could justify buying the Revelations. For me some decks are readers, some decks are for study, some decks are just esthetically beautiful. If they don't fit one of these categories, I pass them on.
Well, one highlight for me personally is you saying “cheekiness” just as Hilda’s rump flashes on the King of Pentacles card (circa 8:55 timestamp 🍑😂). But otherwise, what a meaty and difficult This-or-That! I’ve also struggled with James R. Eads, as I actually don’t care for Van Gogh (gasp! 😬), but I do own and love the Green Glyphs Lenormand, and I haven’t really worked with Cosma Visions but am holding out hope I’ll find use for it distinct from Book of the Dead (which I loooove and have used much more so far)-blame Kelly Fitzgerald’s influence. ☺️ But I also have the Celtic Lenormand and support you holding on to both that and Green Glyphs, as they can be used for such different purposes-the Celtic Lenormand lends itself so well to ritual work beyond everyday readings. I did just rehome Threadbound Oracle with a friend, but I do love it and think it pairs great with This Might Hurt Tarot.
@@Lisa_Papez I just have a lil’ intention-setting ritual box in which I lay out relevant runes in the shape of a geomancy figure that best applies, too. Then beside that I lay an appropriate card from the Wildwood Tarot with a few Celtic Lenormand cards surrounding/underlying it to bolster the intention and energies/outcome(s) I’m aiming for (and underneath THAT is a little paper with the intention written out, which I use to create a sigil, too, that I meditate on and burn). My go-to when I really want to balls-out reinforce a goal and light a fire beneath me. 😄 And I’ve found the little “spell use” sections in the Celtic Lenormand guidebook are really helpful for choosing which cards to use! 😊
Ahhh the Cosmic Whispers Rune Deck I want them so bad! And yours has the old backing that I like so much more than the new backs. I will be stalking your facebook group incase you post it in there for sale or trade.
Lisa, what is that system of learning that you mentioned when talking about the learning the trees? I tried looking it up, but didn't have the spelling.
I really love these videos. The Mary el 1st edition is great… I had the second and just didn’t get it. (Am thinking of repurchasing) the SKT 💕 I don’t own it but I love the idea and am very into the occultism and esoteric. Great to have in the collection, absolutely.
I really don't like the Shimmering Veil Tarot. I am an artist, I like the art style in general, but for a tarot deck, I feel like the art is called in and doesn't relate to the actual meaning. It feels like that one tarot deck that was just a bunch of swatches and had nothing at all to do with tarot - the Hidden Waters Tarot. I didn't get it then or now.
aaah I'm not gonna lie it hurts a little bit to see the tarot of trees go 🙈 i love that one so much because the trees make for such a grounded reading for me! like you said, tree energy is psycically/energetically further removed from us, which makes it easier for me to interpret the cards in a more unbiased way. i hope that makes sense. I also have just never been able to connect to the oak ash and thorn art, so to have two... hahaha still loved this video, but that was a little blow to my ego 🥲

Until then, I just don't feel the artwork. I've held the deck in my hand, and dare I say; I find it ugly. That being said, I didn't get Prisma Visions, in the big kickstarter, because I also didn't find it a really usable deck. I loved the big picture, but I didn't love the big birds in the Sword Suit. I do enjoy Light Visions, it has a more primal, witchy feel. I like decks that have a little sense of other-worldliness. So it goes. (but I kept the extra cards, they are just pretty and cool and that's okay too.) Did I consider the minis? yes, for a minute. In tins? are you kidding? but although I did cave and get the mini TWU, and I'm not sorry (3rd edition of what is basically the same deck in my collection) for the same reasons you talked about re: the mini OAT, I love having that mini. They can improve the card stock & production while they are at it. They do a disservice to their artists with their poor production quality.
Yes! And if they could not print the titles on top of the artwork while they’re at it, that would be amazing.
Yaaaaaas!!!!!!!
