Really dig your takes and breakdowns on everything too, Paddy. Would love to hear more of your insights around breaking down the video structures of the people you profile. Learning how to be a better digital storyteller is sooo fascinating.
I started my channel in June 2020 and now I make way more money on UA-cam than any other job I’ve ever had! I’m also way happier with more autonomy too.
One thing that always blows my mind about adsense is that no two channels are the same. I had similar views to you last month but about half the adsense. Has a lot to do with watch time as well.
Fax like my plug channel with only 9.65k and 1.2 million views made 7k which makes no sense considering it’s in the gaming niche where they usually have $3 rpm. Somehow mine was around $8
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I've been following you two since the channel had fewer than 10k subscribers. Every single ounce of success is so incredibly deserved! I can't wait to see where y'all go.
I had heard of you guys once or twice before you doubled down on the "Creator Economy." Now I literally watch every new video of yours I see in my feed since I LOVE your take on this exact topic. And 95% of the time, your videos are in the top spot in my feed.
I started as a thumbnail designer and worked freelance over 4 years to try and tap into the industry and started working for bigger clients. Got into video editing as well and am now a project leader for the southern hemispheres largest talent management & production house. ps. the resources/ knowledge that you guys give out for free on the channel is mind boggling and has helped be get to where I am today in the industry. So thankyou!
I learn so much from every video you guys post. Every video is super engaging, full of high value information and the production is so well done. Super excited for your growth! Thank you for your work Colin & Samir - it's extremely valuable! Huge shoutout to every brand that is sponsoring you guys - they're definitely getting their money's worth.
ATTENTION: I skipped the whole video to 26:53 Cause that was the main point of the video! I mean ur Thumbnail was so much clickbaite! cause u didn't value ur viewers till 26:53! so don't do that again! even for the money side cause at the End of the day Viewers Retention is everything and if it decreases, u will be ended up broke on UA-cam! no more Sponsoring or Brand Deals if the Brand act smart! - be aware! like it if u wanna Colin & Samir see that & if u wanna can Colin & Samir make more money on UA-cam!
Congrats for the growth, Colin and Samir! 💛 It's amazing to think how far the creator economy has come over these past few years -- I'm still very new to this space since I only started last year, but I've been watching your guys' videos and I've learned so much. I'm from the Philippines and while the creator economy here is relatively new, it's exciting to think about the business possibilities that lie as this space continues to develop 📈
I am amazed at how must of just started making videos for fun and now were here like wow.. this can actually be a fuulll time job and more. I honestly did not know this could potentially become something serious. Love the videos guys!
I’m literally never going to do anything to be classified as a “creator”, but I am 100% just interested in this crazy part of our internet culture. Y’all do amazing work breaking down so many facets of being a creator and it’s so informative!
Please keep it up! i remember a couple years ago on youtube when it was so taboo for creators to discuss exactly how much they made off youtube. For many business minded people, who also love youtube, this info is an absolute gold mind. i love it
Feels like Colin and Samir would be great guys to go on a road trip with. Edit: by my math it looks like Colin and Samir have averaged something like a $2.43 RPM over the years. That means if they want to make, say, $100k per year and the rate remains the same they would need about 41.2 million views.
I joined the creator economy in Jan 2021 and I can't believe I let my fear of being in front of the camera hold me back until now... So happy to be here!
12:20 - 14:39 Such a valid point. The benefit of the UA-cam Algorithm now, is basically understanding a viewers' schedule and calculating what to recommend at certain times of the day based on the user's behaviour. That's how I discovered this channel, UA-cam knew I usually enjoy my lunch watching channels that broadcast similar content to Colin and Samir. When other channels dropped their consistency on uploading content around that time. UA-cam made way for this amazing channel. I just love how you broke the system down and explained how a channel grows from the perspective of UA-cam's marketing and tactics.
@@nelufixak3314 You don’t have to be verified on UA-cam to make money, you just have to have 4,000 watch hours in the past year and 1,000 subscribers. It also helps that I make financial content because that has a high “CPM” (the amount if money paid per 1,000 views).
As someone who’s incredibly uneducated on Adsense and the UA-cam algorithm in general, I’m really glad I’ve found this channel recently! Keep up the great work guys
As usual great episode... Jeff Wittek started his patreon membership since most of his videos are age-restricted by youtube. He gained over 24000 patrons in a day... You guys should have him on your show.
31million views here..... not even $10k (lifetime) youtube HATES my content even tho I used to get MILLIONS of views so because of youtube discriminating my content I gave up on this platform.
We are based in India and manage a UA-cam channel, which has received 15 million views till now. UA-cam has paid us around $690 for 15m total views. Its crazy how these rates are so different in USA and India.

Yo Gents, love the channel, been following it for quite some time now, the new look and style is great. As I embark on my own youtube journey, your channel has been super helpful. I keep learning more and more about what to do and what not to do.
A couple of things. Firstly you guys have become my favourite youtube channel after discovering you guys just last month! Secondly I saw a video on your second channel on how creators can give their worth per video to Sponsors, I would love your view on HOW to get sponsors? And finally I didnt find any differences between the intro and the outro 😭
I'm so excited to check inon this video in 2022 when you hit your million sub play button. I watch a lot of videos on this platform. I guarantee you will see way more success than you are currently experiencing.
*My Guess* If you have 14M view and most of long format videos with a audience interested about youtube business. And In total from all other source this channel helped you make around 50k dollars I think RPM of tech creators like MKBHD will be highest on youtube. Watching this a year later, I realise how much your videos have improved. This video took 6 minutes to get started and contains wayyyyy too much fluff. Whereas now you guys begin with a teaser and jump right into the narrative - keeping it engaging the whole way through.
On the topic of journalists leaving traditional networks to start their own niche newsletters, communities, or publications of their own, that’s actually a huge thing for independent journalists right now. I spoke to the founder of Punchbowl News, Jake Sherman, and he said people are much more interested in the specialized newsletter than the entire daily newspaper these days, and it’s created a huge opportunity for independent journalists to get their foot in the door without a large publication, or for more established journalists to leverage their audience to make more money. You guys are jumping into that industry with Public Projects, and I think it’s genius (19:05)
The relationship between creator and their audience absolutely can be commoditized. All the merch and courses are commodities creators present to their communities.

I’m just gonna say it, you guys are awesome. Your humour, knowledge, insight, everything. Always such a joy to sit through these videos as a creator myself. Keep it coming! Oh and my guess is $20,000? Let’s see if it close 👀
