I just finished watching the Ask Gamedev video on game jams...is it a possibility that in the near future there will be an Ask Gamedev Game Jam? Just an idea....it could be big, y'all have nearly 200k subscribers!
I would also highly recommend the book "The Art of Game Design" by Jesse Schell if you want to dive deeper into game design ;) It's not specifically about mobile games, but games in general, but I think it contains very helpful tips for developing good games :)
Can you please make a video on how to overcome the legal hurdles that Google impose - ie; we're expected to produce a privacy policy and explain what data we collect with Admob and GPG Leaderboards etc even though both of those are Google services.
Thanks for the suggestion, Paul! That's an interesting topic. We might have to get some help from a legal team on that one, but we'll definitely add it to our list of community ideas.
You need to comply with the GDPR, ISO 27001, COPPA, OECD Privacy Guidelines and the APEC Privacy Framework. Generally that means: Notify players of how their personal information is used, Give players a choice regarding your use of their data, Provide a way for players to access and correct their information and Implement Security measures to protect player data. IANAL, but that's a general list of what I did when working as a mobile game developer.
I'm building one if you want to get involved. We're about 50% of the way through the prototype. Would be curious to hear about your concept too as I love the genre and we need more of those in the stores for sure!
Great video! I’m really hoping you’ll answer my question…you said some kickstarter games got their start by creating a video in after effects and running ads, then studying the response. Do you have examples? I’d really like to learn more about that. Thanks!!! 👌😎👏
Whoa, just found out about this channel and it's a ton of useful information. I have question that doesn't exactly relate to the video, but what is the difference between a remake and remaster? Think it might be a good video
A remaster is a top to bottom update to graphics, audio, etc but no change to gameplay. A remake however is trying to create a modern (or more capable) version of a previous game. You can compare the original Final Fantasy 7 with the remade version of Final Fantasy 7 as a remake compared to a remaster.
Great video as always, although I am a bit sad that video games turned out to be made with the idea to put an endless amount of money in it, I understand that it is now too idealistic to release a self contained game that will be sunk in a couple à weeks in an endless abundance. It is a paradise and a hell at the same time.
How to create a game for the Android system that can be played only with an internet connection? This would be a good topic to talk about in one of your videos. Greetings
In a pinch, a preowned laptop with i5/i7 6th gen CPU or better, 16GB RAM and a GTX 1060 (4GB) or above will run Godot, Unity and even basic Unreal Engine projects. If you want a new laptop, but _not too expensive_ a Ryzen 7 4800H, 16GB RAM, GeForce RTX 2060 (mobile) will perform very well, but it costs about $1200. For less money, about $800, you can get a laptop with Ryzen 5 4600H, 8GB RAM and GeForce GTX 1660 Ti but you _will need_ to upgrade the RAM to 16 GB. Having a price range would be helpful.
After re-watching a few times, around the 3min mark in the video you all mention research with the reports and some data using bar charts. Where is the articles/research though? I'd like to see if I can find the reports you guys used in this video to dig deeper into the board and strategy genres/categories.
This was a very well researched and presented point of discussion. This helped me a lot, thank you for putting quality before quantity. Lord knows this world needs it!
How long does it take for one game to be created from one person more specifically how long does it normally take if you're imaginable by that I mean were you imagine a lot and there probably is going to be a lot in that game especially for the coding. Coding could be hard
Depends on the game. And coding isn't the hardest part unless you want to do something literally _never ever_ done before. As a one man team, you have to think about: design, testing, graphics and sound. Those will take you a lot longer than just writing the code itself.
Do not imagine a lot in your games unless you have the capacity to execute it. 20% of your planned features will bring 80% of the impact so you should focus all your time on your core mechanics and nothing more until you can scale and delegate more stuff.

Even if I'm not old enough to be making games well at least I'm going to be learning. That's the best thing in this whole thing.

This was definitely one of the most informative videos regarding gamedev I've ever seen. Thank you for your awesome content!
Thank you - our pleasure! We had help from our friends at Unity for the information on this one. Really glad how it turned out.

I want to design an RPG inspired by early Super Nintendo titles. So my means of maintaining player retention would be the compelling narrative.

Why was that "expert" reading answers from the side-page? Did you create notes for him, and he is just there for a presentational purposes?

what research will tell you a given theme is oversaturated?
You open Google play and look up keywords that fit to your game
@@channel_abc123_ how many is a lot? At what point does a lot mean saturated instead of proven market need?
@@ritzenhauf there's no rule, you have to look it up and decide for yourself whether your game has a chance in that nieche or not

For example a leveling system or a ranked game mode, loot boxes,...
