I agree! Jill getting over her trauma from RE5 and getting herself back into the field would be far more interesting. Hard for me to care about Chris’ story when he’s having a meltdown over forgettable characters whose deaths I thought were pretty entertaining 😂
I honestly think it would’ve been better if instead of Piers, Jill was the partner. Then there would really be an interesting dynamic since his campaign is all about him losing his stride and having to find it again.
@JayTheOKAGE he seemed to hold it together ok after seeing Jill supposedly die but watching men he didn’t have nearly as deep a bond with sends him into a blind, amnsemniac, alcoholic, depression. Also so glad they killed off that little fanboy runt on his squad. I prefer my characters with depth :)
In my playthrough got an infinite egg, frok there till the end of the game it was too much easy but i didnt want to get rid of my infinite egg because it was fun making my coop friend jealous
It’s weird-removing the green filter from the game makes the graphics look more advanced and smooth. My first reaction to seeing the gameplay in this video was “Wow! That’s looks fantastic! Why does it look so good here?”
Resident Evil 5 is one of my favorites in the series. It was my first and got me into more horror titles ever since. It's not the best in the genre or even in the same series, but I have a lot of love for this. It's still an excellent game, made me fond for the melodrama and the cast, and I'm always revisiting it every few years. I, too, would really like to see Sheva again, she's a solid character and unfairly shafted. Hopefully she'll get to come around again sometime. Also, this game had so many memeable moments, Jesus. It's absolutely the very best in regards to Resident Evil's melodrama. Boulders, Wesker, and blonde hair baybeeee
I think the hate for Sheva is not due to her character, but because of her not great partner AI when playing RE5 single player. And I did really like RE5 at launch too. 100% everything except the Versus crap. I'd give RE5 a solid 9/10. RE4 and RE1 Remake get 10/10 for reference. I'm already missing this combat mechanics in Village. The combat is just too clunky compared to the nirvana flow of RE4 or RE5.
I played through this for the first time recently and I've gotta say, I really enjoyed Chris' acting, especially in the Jill section (which I didn't see coming, maybe I'm dumb). He totally sold the relationship. As silly and overblown a lot of the other sections were, that really got me.
They should've hooked up. But nope, Capcom is obsessed with creating new super powered villain kids to take over the franchise. Jake Wesker in RE6 and Rose Winters in RE Village. But Jake actually doesn't have super powers to be honest. Everyone acted like a super hero in RE6.
i know chris is built lile a brick house in this game but when he yells "no!" to grab sheva near the end of the game it makes me feel so bad for him, like his arms are bigger than his head but i just wanna tell him everything's gonna be alright
The Jill and Wesker fight was pretty memorable. And obviously nobody will ever forget Chris beating a boulder into submission. If I was Wesker I would have just jumped into the lava after watching Redfield actually beat a giant rock in a fist fight.
I always end up replaying it. It's definitely my favorite in the series, I love how easy and simple it is to play, as you can select a chapter instead of having to replay the whole thing or using a save file you preemptively made. I also love joining lobbies and always end up making a few friends.
The chapter select feature is something I wish RE Village used. Instead, ya either keep extra save files or start over. And I agree, RE5 is still pretty fun. I played through the main game on PS3 to platinum it last year. Lots of replay value. Doesn't deserve the hate it or RE4 get. I loved it at launch on Xbox 360 back in 2009 too.
@@Gruntvc I guess re8 is like that to feel similar to the older games, but it's kind of an outdated design in my opinion. Yeah, I totally agree! RE5 definitely didn't deserve all the hate, the campaign wasn't as memorable and unique as re4 but Wesker definitely made up for it. The boulder punching scene is pretty dumb but who cares anyway, it's not like re4 was all that grounded either.
Fighting Jill in professional was a NIGHTMARE, I think she got us like 30 times. Also, I loved Sheva. Hands down my favorite RE gal, she was just so damn adorable.
As far as "action resi" goes, RE5 is great. Its a blast to play in co-op even today. I prefer survival horror, but RE5 is pretty unfairly maligned. A great action game, Sheva is awesome, it still looks great even in 2021, and it has peak Wesker. COMPLETE. GLOBAL. SATURATION.
@André, I didn't like Versus PvP at all. Felt out of place in a co op focused game. I 100% every achievement except for Versus lol. I'm not totally against multiplayer. I 100% Aliens Vs Predator 2010 back then on Xbox 360 and had a blast.
RE 5 was actually not only my first Resident Evil game, but also one of my first Xbox 360 games alongside Amped 3, Need For Speed Most Wanted, and Crash of the Titans.
@@ra_0374 hey if you like re5 maybe you should give rerevelations a try, it feels similar enough, has a great campaign and you could spend hundreds of hours playing raid mode
I'm so glad I found your channel. Re8 will be my first resi game and there's so much to catch up on. You explain everything in a way that's easy to understand for ppl new to the franchise. Thank you for making all these videos bro
13:18 It's worth mentioning that the filter removal mod not only also removes a few other post processing effects from what I've seen, but also changes the contrast, making darker areas (due to shadows, mainly) lighter, you can even tell it makes Sheva's hair color appear lighter in the Irving cutscene from a little earlier Edit: I see it even removes the rocket launcher scope texture from the cutscene over at 24:24 XD
RE5 was my intro to the RE franchise. Played it from start to finish + dlc with my brother. Might be sentimental value but it’s my favorite in the series. Also the only title that got me coming back to it year after year.
Very good video. RE5 is not my favorite game of the series, but I really enjoy playing it and weirdly, it's the one I have spent the most hours on, trying to get ss rank on every characters in mercenaries
RE 5 has always been one of my favorites, it has just the right amount of stupid shit to be entertaining but not quite to the level being too much like what RE 6 did for me. Edit: also the lighting in the cave is either due to the filter being removed or something with the PC version, at least on PS3 and XBox 360 it's almost pitch black without the light. The Wesker boss fight and the game in general is also much darker, helping a lot with the atmosphere.
This Boulder punching asshole! I still remember the hype behind re5. Me and my friends downloaded the demo(which was the part with the chainsaw guy where you send sheva ahead to go around and open the door for chris.) That was an amazing time and playing RE5 with my friends was honestly one of the best times of my life. Such an enjoyable experience with friends!
Honestly, RE 5 without the green filter looks Borderlands-like. I do much prefer the looks and feels with the filter on, but it's interesting to see such a colorful version of the game. However, the cave segment, with lantern mechanic, makes more sense with the filter because it is actually dark on it's own. You cannot play comfortably without the help of a light source.
Gotta be my most played RE game. I love the upgrades along with the unlockables and infinite ammo. Then going through the game again on a harder diff, all the while still not feeling to overpowered each time
They love trying to recreate that fish fight from 4 don’t they? Lol they’ve given us the old water boss fight several times since. Bless them for trying their best to give people that four feeling again. 8 has come the closest for sure. But four will always be its own thing between the goofy one liners, and Ashley and her LEOOONNNN! Yelling. I do love the whole series though. I know it’s not common for people to dig 5 or 6. Hell, some even hate 7 and 8. I can get it. We like what we like. But 1-4 and 7-8 will always be the best to me. As well as CV. And while I like them less... I still did enjoy 5, 6 and revelations for what they were. They still have me fun moments with and without coop.
for some reason taking the filter off instantly made me like the game more. kind of funny lol. and wow the night terror mod looks like fun. might have to buy re5 on pc to try that out
I have a soft spot for this game. It was my first ever PS3 game, both the first I played in a PS3 and the first I bought when I finally got one. (actually, when my brother texted me to say we'd received the console, I darted to the store on my way from work and made a beeline for this)
Even without personal feelings, however, I think it's a DAMN good game, even if not necessarily a great RE (although, on both accounts, it's better than RE6), and, truth be told, it's one of the RE's I've most replayed over the years, together with 4, 7 and REmake. I wouldn't say it's completely worse than 4, because even if some parts are not that great (I don't like the ruins too much, and the part with the cover shooting DOES make ya "was this supposed to be RE?") the truth is 4 had some sections i downright HATED, such as nearly the entirety of the castle. Also, I think that the real-time inventory and item management that RE5 brougth to the table adds a level of tension that really made it unique (even if it wasn't perfect). Also, as I've heard regarding RE8 and we've been able to observe from latest releases, Capcom does continuously go back and forth between horror and action, so, in retrospect, RE5 is not at all out of place.
Wow, that choreographed fight scene (where Wesker throws his sunglasses at Chris) looks so much better in the game. The film version looks so amateurish. ...also RLM is awesome!!
This was easily the most fun RE game. Very polished coop and action mechanics compared to RE4. RE4 had better storytelling and atmosphere and was still trying to be survival horror. I never got far in the first 3 REs because the tank controls were the cause of most of the tension and deaths. Nothing like taking 5 seconds to turn around when something fast and deadly pops up behind you. The RE4/5/6 perspective and controls couldve easily been used in a proper survival horror experience or any other type of story, but the producers only had bullets and dollar signs in their minds when making 5 and 6, so eschewed horror for action. But i dont see the change in interface as necessitating a change in tone. I would happily replay the first 3 REs or any more horror-focused RE if they had RE4 style controls. Also Sheva was rendered to be so hot and had a perfectly cast voice. It is a crime that she hasnt returned. Chris hitched himself to Jill too quickly.
I honestly never understood why Chris punching a bolder was mocked in excess. This is certainly not the first time the protagonists do seemingly insane things to survive.
Nothing ever compares to doing the Boulder Punch for the first time: you see "press F to HOOK" and you go "no fucking way" to where he actually starts punching the god damn boulder
23:06 Dude back in the day when I first saw that me and my friend were in absolute tears we replayed this section over and over to see poor chris get his neck 180'ed
Imagine Chris having his boulder punching moment in Code Veronica. (Chris punches Wesker) Wesker: The f**k you been taking Chris!? That sh*t hurt! You know what, nevermind, I getting in my submarine. I was not ready for this.
One of the best co-op games ever made. So much so that I've played through it with every partner from my years in long distance relationships. It'll always hold a special place in my heart, even though my partners are long gone now.
Man your review makes me wanna go through this game again. Re5 was and still is a fun action game, even better in co-op. It's just not a great Resident Evil game, right?
also, if you try the front door 3 times in the mansion in "lost in nightmares", it switches to the fixed camera view like the old RE games. not for the whole level, just the main mansion area
Switching the V key for Q and F for E helped me a bunch on PC. Also, I feel like removing the green tint actually lit that cave up considerably. With the tint it is daaaaark.
My son and I started playing the remaster, I had not played it since it originally came out, and did it alone…but I was surprised how much fun it is with another person. Even though my kid is an ammo hoarder.
Dunno if you'd ever see this and dunno if other people pointed it out! Currently going through your video. The caves isn't that dark because of the color filter!
RE5 and Army of Two are two of the best split screen co-op games ever made, sadly you dont see those kind of games anymore because they sell more copies if the co-op is only possible in online mode and every player has to purchase his own copy. Miss the times chillin with friends, eating junk with gallons of energy drinks and playing the shit out of these games. Nowadays you sit alone in front of a game and the only socual contact is through your headset or ingame chat.
I've just finished my RE Marathon(as I do every new Mainline RE release), I've always been of the opinion that RE5 is better than RE4 and having played 0-7 back to back, I still say it's better, even if Sheva can get a little heal happy if she doesn't have a full heal, or Trigger Happy in stealth sections and the Jill fight instead of just trying to rip it off, made me miss the trophy. I feel like I'm the only one who never figured out it was Jill before the reveal. The game looks weird without the filter.
Honestly wish they’d just killed Jill off in RE5. I’m a huge Jill fan but Capcom’s just given her the shaft since RE5 and I’d rather she die a hero then just fade into obscurity.
@@mtb5431 What about Rebecca? She's been MIA for longer, the problem is there's a lot of characters they can't all be in every game and Jill got her own game in RE Revelations after RE5, which wasn't that bad, but it was in the era of CAPCOM trying to 'mericfy their games. To be fair, Chris, Leon and Ada where in RE6 so Jill was speard that embarisment.
@Puremindgames I didn’t really like Rev1 but your right about Rebecca. She definitely deserves some love too. I hate how they handled her character in Vendetta. Rumor is she will be the protagonist in the possible Rev3. I really hope that’s true.
Most of the things you complained about sheva can be solved if you don't give her any gun, also a great tip if you are planning on playing on professional since enemies won't target her.

@@mtb5431 entertaining? bruh chris literally witnessed his whole squad die and watched jill sacrifice herself... entertaining tho? ur sick
they should’ve replaced piers with jill tbh
@JayTheOKAGE he seemed to hold it together ok after seeing Jill supposedly die but watching men he didn’t have nearly as deep a bond with sends him into a blind, amnsemniac, alcoholic, depression. Also so glad they killed off that little fanboy runt on his squad. I prefer my characters with depth :)
As a kid I used to replay this game so many times with my cousins, unlocked most of the unlockables
Re5 really is at is absolute peak when played with a friend, its easily top 5 co-op games of all time.
Everyone who isn’t Chris and Leon has gotten the shaft in the recent years sadly.
Downside of RE5 is apparently it made Chris so popular that Capcom’s been shoving him into every RE game since.
@@mtb5431 Isn't Leon more popular though?
i know chris is built lile a brick house in this game but when he yells "no!" to grab sheva near the end of the game it makes me feel so bad for him, like his arms are bigger than his head but i just wanna tell him everything's gonna be alright
@@Gruntvc Jake fought and killed the Ustanak barehanded. He 100% has powers they're just not as refined as Wesker's.
People still play this on ps3
@@albertdio420 i used to play on 360 but nowdays I play on the computer using the community patch
Finally, some good fucking food
Honestly had a blast playing this game with my brother
Amazing video! I'm planning on doing a co op online playthrough, really looking forward to playing RE5 again
Same!!! Me and my nephew are gonna do a play through together
Fighting Jill in professional was a NIGHTMARE, I think she got us like 30 times. Also, I loved Sheva. Hands down my favorite RE gal, she was just so damn adorable.
Indeed. I never got sick of "Thanks partner" and "You need to be careful!" She's there to lift you up and she's lethal with that first rifle.
@@mandu6665yeah.
@@mandu6665helps that she's fine too
As far as "action resi" goes, RE5 is great. Its a blast to play in co-op even today. I prefer survival horror, but RE5 is pretty unfairly maligned. A great action game, Sheva is awesome, it still looks great even in 2021, and it has peak Wesker. COMPLETE. GLOBAL. SATURATION.
This was the only game I got all the Achievements for on 360, I loved it that much
the grind for the pvp achievements are a pain in the ass
@André, I didn't like Versus PvP at all. Felt out of place in a co op focused game.
I 100% every achievement except for Versus lol.
I'm not totally against multiplayer. I 100% Aliens Vs Predator 2010 back then on Xbox 360 and had a blast.
@Gruntvc I loved that AVP game! Glad someone else like the multiplayer
RE 5 was actually not only my first Resident Evil game, but also one of my first Xbox 360 games alongside Amped 3, Need For Speed Most Wanted, and Crash of the Titans.
God i'm glad RE7 happened. Capcom really needed to reset after letting Chris punch the shit out of a boulder
One of my all time favorite games!!
no no the boulder punching chris is there , is just the age caught up to him and he aint doing it no more
@@ahmadmirzatappi8142 Please tell me you're being sarcastic. I'm watching a playthrough of Village and I don't want to see any boulders being punched.
@@adamburke4738 I do
@TheAbyssObserver,
Spoiler.
No boulder punching in RE Village. They even removed the ADS and melee attacks from Chris' RE7 dlc. Lame Capcom, lame.
The turret section followed by the El Gigante fight on professional was rage inducingly challenging
23:17 that laugh has me dead ☠️😂
I barely subscribed a few days ago, but it feels like I've been waiting a long time for you to make this one!
Played them all but this game is the 1 I almost feel ashamed to say I love
Yeah i know what you mean this game might not be as objectively good as other titles in the series but it's definitely my favorite
I dont have that shame, RE5 is probably one of my favorite games, cant compare it to other RE games since this is the only one I've beaten I think
Thank you for making all these videos bro
yo bro don't sleep on re revelations, probably one of the top games on the franchise
@@AndreVBr thanks, I'll check it out! Is it more in the old style of resident Evil or the more action oriented type?
@@poetanderson2495 it's more like the old games, except for some chapter which are more combat heavy and you are expected to fight.
13:18 It's worth mentioning that the filter removal mod not only also removes a few other post processing effects from what I've seen, but also changes the contrast, making darker areas (due to shadows, mainly) lighter, you can even tell it makes Sheva's hair color appear lighter in the Irving cutscene from a little earlier
Edit: I see it even removes the rocket launcher scope texture from the cutscene over at 24:24 XD
Yeah. Tbh I don’t understand why ppl use these. They ruin the artistic design of the game.
The most legendary aspect of Resident Evil 5 is DC Douglas voicing Albert Wesker.
Leon: Runs from Boulders in RE4
Chris: Punches Boulders
RE 5 has always been one of my favorites, it has just the right amount of stupid shit to be entertaining but not quite to the level being too much like what RE 6 did for me.
Edit: also the lighting in the cave is either due to the filter being removed or something with the PC version, at least on PS3 and XBox 360 it's almost pitch black without the light. The Wesker boss fight and the game in general is also much darker, helping a lot with the atmosphere.
Finally!
Thats what we've been waiting for!
Its what we've wanted all along!
This Boulder punching asshole!
I still remember the hype behind re5. Me and my friends downloaded the demo(which was the part with the chainsaw guy where you send sheva ahead to go around and open the door for chris.)
That was an amazing time and playing RE5 with my friends was honestly one of the best times of my life. Such an enjoyable experience with friends!
This is a well above average video. Your dedication to providing sources should be the standard for everyone on this platform. Fantastic work.
Weskers mutation has made him be a lot more theatralic throughout it's phases - from "chris - stop it." to "CHRIIIIIIS!"
This is my biggest guilty pleasure in RE lol
Just love the game 10/10 for me
Honestly, RE 5 without the green filter looks Borderlands-like. I do much prefer the looks and feels with the filter on, but it's interesting to see such a colorful version of the game. However, the cave segment, with lantern mechanic, makes more sense with the filter because it is actually dark on it's own. You cannot play comfortably without the help of a light source.
Love this game, it’s my favorite alongside RE4. I always played as Sheva and I really love her character. Chris, Josh and Jill I love as well.
They still have me fun moments with and without coop.
for some reason taking the filter off instantly made me like the game more. kind of funny lol. and wow the night terror mod looks like fun. might have to buy re5 on pc to try that out
You can play lost in nightmares with fixed camera if u spam trying to walk out the front door it’s an Easter egg
It's amazing how much better the game looks without the CoD filter
In my opinion resident evil 5 is one of the best co/op games of all time
This is one of my favorite games cause of how much I played it when I was young and still enjoy it now
I have a soft spot for this game.
Also, as I've heard regarding RE8 and we've been able to observe from latest releases, Capcom does continuously go back and forth between horror and action, so, in retrospect, RE5 is not at all out of place.
incredible amount of research and effort. great work!
Wow, that choreographed fight scene (where Wesker throws his sunglasses at Chris) looks so much better in the game. The film version looks so amateurish. ...also RLM is awesome!!
It's like poetry
The film made it look super lame
This game was amazing and fun . Was in High school when it came out me & my brother always played coop
They NEED to bring Sheva back! She deserves it
Dengar! Fuck yea
One of the reason i sense bias and mob mentality in the RE community
Yeah, chris punching a boulder is not okay for them, but Leon unrealistically dodging lasers is cool. I mean, what the heck?
@@benkraze3103 exactly also lean is straight kick peoples heads of in re4 the strength needed for that is insane
@@albertozalon8477 Not really. If you kick a rotting person in the face I'm sure something will come off.

Nothing ever compares to doing the Boulder Punch for the first time: you see "press F to HOOK" and you go "no fucking way" to where he actually starts punching the god damn boulder
Chris and Wesker are fkn iconic in this game.
Chris's story doesn't end until he ensures the Redfield bloodline continues though
23:06 Dude back in the day when I first saw that me and my friend were in absolute tears we replayed this section over and over to see poor chris get his neck 180'ed
Imagine Chris having his boulder punching moment in Code Veronica.

Wesker: The f**k you been taking Chris!? That sh*t hurt! You know what, nevermind, I getting in my submarine. I was not ready for this.

New sub. Just watched your Thief, Alien Isolation, Deus Ex and now this one. Great channel! Looking forward to watching Prey
RE5's graphics were fucking mindblowing back then, it still holds up extremely well
All facts here
Man, the removal of the "Bad Boys" filter makes this game look so much better. I'm sad I never ran through it on pc
Play the night terror mod
damn i had no idea the game looked so much better without the green filter
I tried punching a big rock in my backyard and well let’s just say my hand isn’t going to be used for a while
Being able to remove the green filter for Resi 5 does wonders. It looks more vibrant/colourful. Love it.
Resident Evil Content Awesome 🤘🤘🤘 the RE7 is one my favorite videos from you I'm excited for this one.
I avoided saying that, but yes.
While I lament the direction RE took after 4, this game is co-op royalty in my circle. It is just so damn fun.
also, if you try the front door 3 times in the mansion in "lost in nightmares", it switches to the fixed camera view like the old RE games. not for the whole level, just the main mansion area
I love how colorful your RE5 footage looks
He used a mod to remove that ugly green filter on the game

no wonder brad was out in re 1
Switching the V key for Q and F for E helped me a bunch on PC.
Also, I feel like removing the green tint actually lit that cave up considerably. With the tint it is daaaaark.
It’s so hilarious that RE5 was being accused of racism when in the previous game all the antagonists were white lmao
I guess you are right,I don't remember a single time the cave section was as bright as in the video.
My God the game looks sooooo much better with the green filter removed!!!
Gonna be honest, I thought this whole 30 minute was gonna be Boulder punching.
