Here's another good restaurant in Hat Yai that not many tourists seem to know about.
The Thai signs at the restaurant clearly show the name of the restaurant as Glom Glom (ร้านอาหารกลมกล่อม). However, on Google Maps (for some strange reason) it is called Mellow.

Being able to read some basic Thai is an extremely useful skill, and actually it's quite easy. Even I can do it! Here's a link to my other UA-cam channel:

Very good Thai food restaurant big and spacious place I think this place mainly caters to the local menu is in Thai with photos and the price listed is in English outdoor dining is a good option provided it does not rain I believe with the year-end most companies would reward a dinner for their staffs I like the place with nice ambience . Merry X'mas and a Happy New Year ' 2024 . 🙏
It's one of Hat Yai's better places. I felt a bit embarrassed yesterday when I stumbled into that office party, but they didn't get upset! Another good thing about that place is that despite being outdoors, there were no mosquitoes. Merry Christmas to you, too, and thanks for your continued support this year!
Looks really good.
And that's a good price for 4 people.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thank you, Gangsom! The atmosphere and food there is good. It's worth a try. Merry Christmas to you, too!
Great review and good tip, thanks Phil 🙏🏻☺️
The restaurant shows as being called “Mellow” on google maps (unless i’m very mistaken 😅!) but as my Wife works at Bloomsbury School we’re going to go one day after work! 🙏🏻☺️
Have you seen there’s a new Cafe on the Lake at PSU.? It’s called UPstairs Cafe, it looks fabulous on the photos and today being the opening day, we popped in since we were in the area 👍🏻☺️
It really is a very nice Cafe indeed with a good selection of Drinks as you’d expect and the Chiffon Cake (first time ive heard of it nevermind had it) & Croissants were great.!
The views over the Lake and especially from the front Terrace were stunning and I imagine watching the Sunset from there will be incredible 😍 …there is also a roof terrace too which looks set up for Music events!
They also had food, Pad Krapao & Kua Kling which looked very nice and fair portion sizes.!
Prices I felt were very reasonable for the spec of the Cafe and location, 60baht generally for a Drink, 60-80baht for a Cake/Pastry and 60baht (I think) for the Food dishes! 👍🏻☺️
We’ll definitely be back for their for the Sunset atleast for sure 🙏🏻☺️
Pleasure! Thanks for your comment. It's very close to Bloomsbury. From the school, just go towards the airport and take one of the turnings right. If you go past the restaurant, you will come to a temple - วัดเกาะวัด. There's a sign for the temple on the main airport road, which helps you to know where to turn. I always look out for the sign.
No, I hadn't heard about the new cafe. I worked at PSU for four years many years ago, but these days I have little to do with it. It sounds good. I'll give it a try. When you say lake, do you mean the reservoir at the back of the campus?
@@expatlivinginthailand Brilliant, thanks for the directions Phil 🙏🏻☺️
Haha, yeah it’s a Reservoir really hey 😅😅 …I definitely want to go back to watch the Sunset there, I think for this reason alone it could easily become one of the best Cafes in Hat Yai 🙌🏻☺️
Wow, you worked at PSU.? Were you teaching there.?!? That’s really something 👍🏻👍🏻☺️
@chrismcdermott1111 Pleasure! And thanks for the PSU tip. I worked at the dental faculty part-time for about four years. The campus was quite different back then. There's been a lot of building since and there are far more people and cars these days. I rarely go there now. They've built a new campus nearby now because the original campus was just getting too overcrowded.
@@expatlivinginthailand Oh wow, my wife’s Auntie works for the Dental Department at PSU too 👍🏻☺️, she’s called Aew, been there for many years I believe, a possibility you crossed paths whilst there 🙏🏻☺️
Yeah, PSU is definitely a busy place! 😅 …the Organic Market there is pretty good, that’s usually why we go there 🙏🏻☺️
@chrismcdermott1111 There’s a good chance that we crossed paths, but I can't recall the name. It was a long time ago! I find PSU too busy these days, and at times it is crazy. The agricultural fair in August brings in tens of thousands of people. At around the same time, they also have a science week, which is attended by school kids from all over southern Thailand. The graduation ceremonies are also manic.
Nice video! The sort of info (among others) that I find useful 😋 I don't drive when in Hat Yai, but I can make do with moto-taxi or Grab.. or maybe even just take the bus to the airport and take a stroll from there.
I'm very interested in the fact that there are not many tourists there (although you may well change that with this video 🤭) and I've gotten by with ordering food by pointing at pictures. I generally prefer eating al fresco.. enclosed spaces amplify surrounding chatter, which can get irritating at some point. Great find!
Thank you! It's difficult knowing what's useful and what's not. I didn't think the video about sawng-thaews was useful, but it got quite a good response.
On more than one occasion, I've considered not doing a video about somewhere I like for fear of it being ruined by an influx of tourists! ไม่เป็นไร
This place is in the vicinity of the airport, but too far to walk. During the daytime you could use sawng-thaews, but these dry up after around 6pm. Hope you manage to get there!
@@expatlivinginthailand ไม่เป็นไร - I tried to muster whatever little rudiments of Thai reading I have to figure this out, but had to resort to Google Translate in the end 🥴 While in Bangkok back in September, I did manage to make out 'Phra Ram 9' MRT station just from the Thai script.. thanks to your Learn to Read Thai videos. That certainly gave me a big kick then, but too bad I've now forgotten how that looks too. I need to get back onto your other channel! 😁
@@visitstomyneighbours I read constantly while I'm out and about, and I've been doing that for 20 years. If not for that, I would have forgotten everything years ago. I'm fine with signs and menus, but getting to the next level is difficult. If life calms down enough next year, I'll devote some more time to studying. It's a tough language, but quite rewarding when you start to make some progress.
Looks like a really nice restaurant. Yeah I think you walked in on a company gathering. 😂
Most of the working Thais I know do a lot of out-of-work hour activities together. The boss is always taking them for dinner; they are all at each others birthdays, kids events, etc. And they can knock back some drinks as well, all of them.
It's one of Hat Yai's better restaurants! You're right about company gatherings. I went to the Donya yesterday for takeaway food. The car park was full of vans and there was a big company gathering. Thais like doing everything, including eating, in big groups. Drinking is a big part of the male bonding culture. The women don't tend to drink alcohol.
