Will's father leaving always hits home for me but an underrated episode is Queen Latifah's episode about body positivity. That is an issue I deal with still, but slowly I am gaining acceptance of my own body, and I am loving how l look. Ty, God,Fresh Prince & @MsMojo ❤ for
The one where he’s playing card games with the ghosts in the cemetery and the little boy says he was killed by a drunk driver. That one just hits me different than the other serious moments in the series. 😐
Reportedly, Ben Vereen, who played Will's deadbeat dad, Lou, was also in tears when he exited the scene, leaving Will for the last time. As Vereen is a father himself, he couldn't imagine ever abandoning his children so callously.
Will’s dad leaving episode showed 3 things - Will Smith can play dramatic/serious roles - Lou is the type of father men SHOULDN’T be like - Uncle Phil is the type of father men SHOULD be like
"How come he don't want me, Man?" The tears come flooding out, every single time! 😭💔 Will apparently had a decent relationship with his own dad, who played an active part in his life, but based that moment on some of his friends, who didn't have close relationships with their absent dads.
I loved that frat episode when Carlton stood up for himself and told that pledge leader “Being black isn’t what I’m trying to be, it’s what I AM.” Yes Carlton 👏🏼
Yeah, I was so proud of carlton😊 But the best part is when Carlton and will leave , one of the other members of the pledge committee and tells the leader of pledge that he doesn’t speak for the rest of them and that he was going to have him (the head of the pledge committee) kicked out of the fraternity!😊
"Home is Where the Heart Attack is" really hits hard for me. Assomeone who's father is constantly in and out of the hospital I value every single moment I have left with him.
Honestly if you don't mind me replying to your comment in so many ways I can relate to "Home Is Where The Heart Attack Is" because when I was a little girl I lost a beloved cousin to that before I turned 9 years old and to this day I still miss him.
As a person who has heart disease, that episode also hits home for me. It’s also difficult considering James Avery later indeed died from a heart attack.
Mine didnt die of heart attack but from brain damage at least we shared words the day before he had that accident the next morning and never woke up!!!
@@COMPFUNK2 Not to mention, that Lance Reddick, he, unfortunately passed away this year back in March, at just 60 years old, and he apparently passed away from heart disease. And what’s unfortunate is that, James Avery actually passed away almost a decade ago, on December 31st, 2013. And this year in March on March 17th, almost 10 years later after James Avery died, is when we lost Lance Reddick, and they both passed away, almost a decade apart, from heart disease. And again, that is what makes this issue very unfortunate, as well as heartbreaking, for anyone out there who has a father, who is in the hospital because of, a heart attack, or even, because of heart disease. And I hope that anyone out there, who has a father out there in the hospital, I may not know any of you, and I may not know your fathers, but I hope that all of your fathers who are in the hospital with a heart attack or with heart disease, will make it out alive. And I should know, because when I was growing up, my dad has had, 2 heart attacks, as well as 2 open heart surgeries, and I think the first one was, when I was at least 6 years old, and the second one was, when I was 14. And he is still alive, and he is still with us to this day. But again, I really hope for anyone out there, if you have a father, who is in the hospital because of a heart attack or because of heart disease, I hope that he will make it out alive for any of you, because we are, all human, and we all have unconditional love for all of our fathers. And that is what I know about that.
The “how come he don’t want me man” scene speaks volumes. Ben Vereen (who played Lou) cried after he walked off screen because he is a father and he could never imagine leaving his kids. James Avery whispered into Will’s ear “That’s acting!” RIP James Avery (Uncle Phil). ❤
17:06 “Being black isn't what I'm trying to be, it's what I am. I'm running the same race and jumping the same hurdles you are, so why are you tripping me up? You said we need to stick together, but you don't even know what that means. If you ask me, you're the real sellout.” - Carlton 👍🏽 the speech was absolutely brilliant. No doubt it was a powerful moment. Alfonso Ribeiro nailed it
I like that they even went over the scenes that were played for laughs like Trevor’s death (1:45) and Jazz with his hands up (10:13). While those scenes did make us laugh they have realistic and sometimes dark truths behind them
When Will was going to step out into the world, is hard, but what made it sweet is Uncle Phil called him his son because out of all the things Will got himself into, he was there for him.
The episodes where Will and Carlton got arrested just for being African-American, and where Will got shot when him and Carlton were mugged resulting in Carlton buy a revolver, forcing Will and later Uncle Phil to have a talk with Carlton about the dangers and consequences of being a vigilante are very impactful as they tackle actual questions concerning the fallacies within the justice system that still to this day don't have clear cut answers.
I'm rewatching the series with my parents, I remember how I loved it as a kid. But a few days ago we watched Mistaken Identity and I end up crying. Carlton lives in a bubble, and it's hard to watch how will tries to teach him how the world actually sees them, but the real thing that made me cry the most was... this was the 90s, it's been decades, and nothing has change.
The frat episode where the pledge leader don't want to accept Carlton and that beautiful and moving speech that Carlton gives. In addition, the guy who says that the leader doesn't speak for the rest of them.
It still pulls my heart strings even to this day. I also agree on the position that this video where this was the most serious moment in Fresh Prince history.
I'm glad I got to experience this when I was from 12-18. The greatest show of the 1990's. Uncle Phil was the best RIP Mr. James Avery. You were my favorite TV dad!!
Wills father wakiibg out on him Carlton standing up to the frat leader Will teacing Carlton about police brutality and racism Will getting shot and Carlton finally understanding police brutality The final episode and moving on Uncle Phil’s heart attack and Will confronting him
I thought the drunk driving episode was sad. While I'm glad that Will didn't get behind the wheel, that conversation he had with that kid was a wake up call to Will and a harsh reality check to those that was the drunk driver or the victim of one!
The most powerful episodes for me the one with Uncle Phil’s heart attack, the sexual education episodes, Police Brutality and Racial Profiling. Great video.❤
"Look I don't wanna see my father with tubes up his nose, okay?!" "Carl, there's gonna come a time, when all he HAS is tubes up his nose." "Not my father!" "Everybody's father!" Damn. . . this is deep.
Even if its been 11 years since James Avery's passing, it still hurts. He has quite the chemistry with loads of people out there regardless of whether they on camera or off camera. He is still sadly missed RIP.
How come he don't want me man gets me every time 😭😭😭 😭😭😭 love this video, Will's Dad leaving Will forever be the saddy Tv moment ever the scene with will Dad broke me because I know what he's going through my dad walked out on me when I was 5 years old

I think the episode where Will tried to make himself approved by "Mr. No" and the girl of his dreams was interesting. It also shows how a father and daughter have different ideas of who the daughter should marry. It should come down to the daughter's choice, and the father should be open to his daughter's idea of who she loves.
I think it's very telling how backwards we've moved since the 90's, that she says "I'm not a size 6" which is now considered, both professionally and medically, overweight for most women, depending on their height. The average height for a woman is 5'6" and at 140-150lbs she would likely be a 6, but her body fat percentage would be in the high end of overweight, nearing obesity range.

I Thoroughly enjoyed this, as The Fresh Prince was one of my favorite shows growing up. One thing however that isnt true is at about the 10:50 mark with regards to police brutality. And well, related to the ongoing issue of racial profiling, where does that leave, a police officer who is black, and if his or her mom or dad or brother or sister, or even his or her cousin aunt or uncle, what would that police officer do, if anyone in his or her family, was to end up dead, all because of the ongoing racism, as well as the prejudices, in his or her town, especially with the local police departments? And who knows if this ongoing unfortunate issue, will or won’t come to an end?
And yet.. now.. the Peacock streaming site is being allowed to "cancel" some of this... especially the parts that remind people that some have more of the privilege they project others have "over them". Perfect example is the episode where they "teach will a lesson in respect for women".. by her acting like a psycho. No.. what is always missed is that respect is a two way street... and mind games are a good way to get the opposite of what you are looking to get. in the number one, though.. every time I see it, I want to reach into the scene, hug will, and tell him: *_"I have been asking that about my 'dad' my whole life."_*
Considering that racial profiling, is still very much an unfortunate and heavy issue that is still going on to this day, I hope very much, that if there is a police officer out there who is racist, as well as a police officer who is prejudice, I hope that he or she will watch the video of this show here on UA-cam, giving them the eye opening message, that he or she should not be racist, as well as prejudice, and not arrest the wrong person, or even the wrong people, because they think that the black person driving the car could be a criminal, when it turns out that is not the case. And well, even if it’s not the case, it still goes on and on, and we are all still hoping that this will come to an end, but it doesn’t look like that it will, says racial profiling still goes on to this day. And the racial profiling is also, a big part of what unfortunately leads to a white racist police officer, killing a black person, because as I have learned myself, racism is also what can kill someone, especially somebody black, and if that person dies of the hand of a white and racist police officer, as well as if that white police officer is prejudiced. But it’s still an ongoing issue, and it doesn’t look like that the issue will ever come to an end, even if we all want for it to, as well as have a big change on that.
