Nvidia not only has ruined the high end GPU market by pricing them the same as a used car, but now with the rumored 5060 and 5070 only having 8gb and 12gb VRAM they're also attempting to destroy the mid-range in order to FORCE people to go into a higher tier. Absolutely cannot stand that company. AMD's GPU division needs to get their shit straight because without them things are gonna only get worse. Or Intel needs to come out swinging one. Edit- well this exploded haha
If somehow AMD still messing up I assume Intel Battlemage would swoop that low - mid tier. I just wish Intel would have better distribution for Battlemage. Because Arc is rare in my country.
@@anitaremenarova6662 Please Intel can barely get their gpus drivers together. And they haven't gained that much popularity. Building a good consumer base takes time, and its gonna take them way longer than a few months. And if their first line of gpus is anything to go by, it will be a long time till they can reliable compete with amd and nvidia.
I have a different take. The US puts tariffs on electronics. Nvidia rolls out a more expensive line of 50 series cards and curtail production of 40 series units. AMD will roll out mid range cards and overprice everything. 40 series cards disappear quickly and used prices go up. I'm not optimistic on the near future.
That's the glass completely empty outlook I was looking for. When it comes to politics or companies, I always assume the absolute worst. That way I can be pleasantly surprised when 98% of it comes true.
That is exactly what I was thinking watching this vid. This is good advice if you are 'down under' or in EU but for the US its a dice roll because of the tariffs that are probably incoming as you mention. Additionally he is also including difficulty in buying new video cards when they mail them to you to review it may not be on your mind. Sitting on refresh with a hope to get into the queue to maybe buy a card, but not the card version you wanted for days. Nvidia has already talked about shortages so even more pressure. This will mean secondary markets again and potentially a real mess next year. If you can buy something right now that will meet your needs for the next few years I would give a hard look. I am not expecting in the US anything like the discounts he is talking about. Rest of the world maybe fine, I don't know.
wish they talked about the leakd b580 model since its a mainstream product with 12gb vram which we re not seeing from both amd and nvidia with 192 bit bus......
I just bough a PS5 at this point. And am playing older or indie games on my old PC. Mid range AMD GPU may be a reasonable update. But Nvidia is totally irrelevant now for gaming for someone who wants to spend less than 1000$ for a GPU. With 5080 having 16 GB of VRAM, looks like irrelevant for everyone who doesn't want to buy a 5090 for 2500$ with crazy power requirements.
I am waiting to get a new graphics card since 2018 and keep postponing it because of; - mining craze - pandemy - price fixing crime I got R9 380 (4 GB) installed in my pc and keep enjoying games at 3840 x 2160 resolution. "Which games?" you ask? (Thank you for asking) Demon's Souls (I love you RPCS3 😊) Dark Souls Dark Souls 2 (scholar of the first sin) Alan Wake Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition Brütal Legend Borderlands 2 and many more... I got also PS4, Xbox One S, Xbox 360 Halo Reach Limited Edition, PS3 and Xbox So, keep enjoying games on multiple platforms... I'll be waiting healthy market conditions to return and price fixing crime ends... If that means, I have to wait until 2032 - 2033 I (gladly) say "Lets go!" No need to rush for me... I got a quite a big backlog, just like everybody else...
@@stanislavkimov2779 I bought a 7900XT for a grand on launch day, which now sells for 750€ or even lower from what I heard, that was the most expensive GPU purchase I ever did and I don't want to repeat it again anytime soon, especially because the XTX wasn't that much more expensive, so I had bad price/performance. Still, for the extra 250€ or so I spent I got "early access" I could actually play AAA titles at 4k native/max settings before UE5 games took over LOL. The 4070 TI/Super are also probably in that price range. If nVidia plays their cards right, a card with a comparable performance will be 600€ or less. The 8800XT is going to be around that tier, but probably also in the sub 600€ range. Of course, this is only if AMD and nVidia aren't colluding once again.
@@ozanozkirmizi47 Same friend, I'm on a 1070 since 2018 or 19 and the only thing pushing me to upgrade is the release of monster hunter wilds and to have better performance while editing/animating but i can wait.
To be fair that was the only generation of GPUs that had that kind of performance jump, that was a once in a lifetime experience. Especially now that we're hitting the limits of silicon it is very unlikely we'll see that performance jump again.
Waiting for new generation never work(last couple years atleast)....There will be scalpers and shortages at same time. Best strategy is skip new generations and buys only refreshes like 4070TI super/4080super. They offer almost always better value + there are no shortages and scalpers.
It does work, the actual good advice is that you shouldn't buy bad deals in the first place. 4070ti and 4080 at 1200 MSRP buyers got screwed and that's fine by me, be smarter with your decisions and you'll be fine.
The best strategy is to just buy it if you need it and want it. That's it. Why would you deprive yourself of having fun, for a chance to snatch a slightly better performance at a similar price point months later? This also won't be the case because the cards will sell out immediately.

Bold of you to assume you will actually be able to buy the new cards for the new inflated MSRP until many months after launch. Nvidia has zero incentive to even try to be competitive at the high end this gen with AMD out of the picture. Plus with Trump talking tariffs (and China specifically) and the US being a massive economy, who knows how that will impact the global market for electronics.
Hard to take this video seriously when it’s calling anything less than a 25% discount on high end electronics a “pathetic discount” No realistic comments on scalping/availability in January, nor on the impending trade war, either. This video is so wishful.
i feel like it's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. if the leaks on the 5000 series cards turn out to be unfounded, they'll be out of stock and scalped constantly. if they don't and the MSRP is an absurd premium, the 4000 series is going to be out of stock and scalped constantly. either way, you're not upgrading unless you have the time to watch their storefront listings like a hawk. i would say, if you can, upgrade now. you can at least sell your card later in both scenarios and have an up-to-date gaming experience while you wait for the fire to shrink.
4000 series stopped production for most models, just wait for 50 series and if it's bad snag a barely used 40 series card from some rich kid who already got bored and needs a new shiny toy.
scalping isn't that bad anymore these days, you could buy a GPU relatively easy for MSRP for a long time. If you wanna be a first adopter of the 5090, then expect delays as these prestige products usually aren't enough to satisfy all buyers on the first badge.
RTX 5070 TI but especially 5070 might get cheaper than we think. They cut it down pretty bad so there is a Chance Nvidia will call 750 for the TI Version but only 550 for the 5070. But who knows…
"Scalping" simply won't happen on *anything* but the 5090. Too many people assume that the mining-mania was a pattern that will repeat, no, it won't. The *only* thing that would drastically curtail _supply_ would be China getting directly involved in Taiwan, with blockades, embargoes or invasion. In the US, tariffs would not curtail _supply_ , it would just make things more expensive for Americans.
That's what I did, bought a 7900xtx and selling my 6800xt for half the cost. There will more than likley be no good deals on new GPUs anyway. New GPUs can also come with problems that have not been worked out yet.
the premise of the video is kind of flawed, is based on the assumption that a) the 50x0 will have the same MSRP than the 40x0 and b) that you will be able to get them at that price at launch. I fear that's not realistic at all. Also, it doesn't consider that if you want to go 16 Gb, probably you will have to get the 5080 (probably at a ridiculous price)... meanwhile, the production of the 4070+ series has already stopped
I agree when it comes to nvidia. But his advice makes sense if you're looking for good RADEON deals and can wait a bit longer. Don't buy when they release products, but 1-2 months after that. First you may have the usual AMD reached to high with the MSRPs and corrects effect, you also have scalping shenanigans out of the way - and even better, AMD more so than Nvidia tends to also significantly discount any last gen products that you will get much cheaper than you would if you buy them now.
I learned from 2020. I am not having my next gpu squandered by scalpers. I don't game on 4k or anything, I just needed an upgrade from my RX 5700 XT in 1440p games. My RX 7800XT is coming tomorrow, lol. The pool of 7900 GREs had run dry in my area
I just upgraded to the same card from a 2070 super. And I have the same sentiment in regards to scalping and shortages. Might as well upgrade now before prices potentially get out of control due to Trump tariffs
I pulled the trigger on the last XFX 7900 GRE in my area which turned out to be an open box so got it for less than the 7800XT MERC with the open box discount. I think someone returned it because it didn't fit in their case, it's bigger than the standard for sure. No regrets yet. Last year I almost bought a 6950XT on black Friday but waited a few days too long and they were gone for good.
Just nabbed a 7900 XT - last one locally for 649 US. Love the card so far, upgraded from a 3070. I also don’t want to deal with the scalping and BS that is sure to come with the new GPU launches.
Skip new and buy used. Just bought a Asrock taichi 7900XTX for $650 on FB MP. I only buy cards that I can see working in person. 24 GB ram and this level of rastorization will not be priced matched for a couple of generations.
I second this. Ended up finding an eBay seller selling a Sapphire 7900XT for $540. To my surprise though, it was actually brand new. The second hand market can absolutely do wonders if you find the right sellers at the right time.
@@anitaremenarova6662 if you could ever get your hands on it. there were 2 years of supply chain issues and shortages that caused prices to skyrocket right after 30 series launched, and then Boom 40 series.

I bought a rx 6700 10 gb years ago when they sold for 400 euros here in France. That was a nice upgrade from my previous gtx 1070. I don't expect i'll be able to get anything interesting to replace it with at that price point before at least 2026 though... the gpu market indeed has gone to shit. First it was the crypto nonsense combined with the pandemic that showed how " consumers " did not mind overpaying for graphics cards, and now it is the AI wave that makes Nvidia so much money that they barely even need diy pc enthusiasts anymore. We are indeed kind of screwed.
With the results of the USA election and announcement of Trump's foreign policy (Tariffs, Tariffs, Tariffs) I'm not sure waiting is as good an idea as prices could jump by from 20% to 60% unless the electronics industry is given an exemption/time extension.
Just bought a 7900xtx for $764 so hopefully I don't have to buy another GPU until 2030 when Trump's out of office. I'll sell my old GPU after the tariffs hit. I was firmly on board the wait and hold team to replace my 1080ti until now.
Go look up the current tariffs. Semi-conductors and metal goods are already under tariff and already set to increase substantially in the coming year or two. This was signed in May I believe. Trump may want to tariff other goods, but anything he does will have a little to no effect on GPUs because that's already going to happen.
The same. Playing the waiting game doesn't ever work for me with prices in Poland, and 7900GRE gives me a good headroom to play in 3440x1440. Been replaying old games i've played before in 1080 for two weeks now, and it's absolutely fantastic.

I have seen the RX 7900 XT on sale for as low as 566 USD (equivalent in CAD), and I have seen the RX 7800 XT on sale for an astonishing 370 USD (in the US), both just in the past few days. Whatever the next generation brings, I don't think we'll be getting ANYTHING which can beat the value of a 370 dollar RX 7800 XT, at least not at any point in the next year. If we do see something that's a better value than that in the next year from the next generation, I'll be extremely impressed. If you live in the US, that's all the more reason to not worry too much about how good of a deal the next gen cards might be, because there's a good chance tariffs are going to add a lot to next-gen pricing, if not right away, then before the end of next year. Of course, if the US government realizes at the last minute what a terrible idea that would be, then they may well cancel the plans for the tariffs.
That’s a damn good price for a 7800XT. Can i ask if it is a Sapphire pulse or one of the better ones like Sapphire Nitro+ or Powercolor Red Devil? I got my hellhound for 539 USD.
Same, my last brand new GPU was a GTX 950 back in 2015 and after that card all of my cards were second hand and so far I've had zero issues as long as I'm careful with who I buy from and do my research.🙂 'my country has a 27% VAT so brand new is stupid expensive so no thanks' Still using my 3060 Ti that I've bought in 2022 and for now its enough for my use case so I will just wait till the second half of 2025 probably and then see whats up on the second hand market again.
I never buy used GPUs, I also only sold a GPU only once, and only because it was just a placeholder really (RX 480, which was a 1 month link between going from 750 TI to 1080 TI). Maybe when I'm 80 years old and need money, I'll sell my gpus of for a lot of money to collectors though lol.
It's my first time buying used. Snagged a 6700XT for $280 (luckily barely used). A new 6600 costs the same price. In my country, it's quite a good deal.
Got my 7900xt for $599 when my state had a no sales tax day so I payed exactly $599 total for my card. My idea was to use this until the new cards came out and upgrade. Honestly looking at the leaks and rumors I don’t think I will upgrade. I may get the next AMD “Flagship” if the price to performance is there. That being said at launch I don’t have faith in AMD to not mess it up. That being said I love my 7900xt and it does EVERYTHING I’ve ever done excellent. I don’t play single player games so RT is a complete waste for me and as we all know the performance hit to see cool shadows just isn’t worth it.
Ray tracing is a waste on single player games as well. Getting a better monitor will make the games look better way more than ray tracing will and it will not significantly reduce your frame rates in the process. I also snagged a deal on a 7900xt and used the saving to push for a 1440p OLED monitor and I think I’m set till 2029 when I can jump from a 5700x3d am4 platform to the am6 platform. Go full 4k with that as well.
Not to mention the fact that no amount of raytracing can improve the visuals of any game by as much as better textures do - at virtually no impact to performance. If only you habe enough VRAM, that is. With my XTX and its 24GB, I can load any and all texture packs without even thinking about it and the performance is still phenomenal. Wouldn't touch any Ngreedia card except the 4090 with a ten foot Pole in a rad suit!
That's a great deal. I remember paying around 499 for 7800XT game bundle and 900ish for 7900XTX XFX Merc310 when I snagged those a decent while ago. If you avoid RT heavy games, mostly ones you can't turn off like Avatar (snowdrop engine) etc those are taxing. Have a 4090 though and I play RT off in most games, it's a noticeable hit to FPS on. Most I noticed in one game was the trees were raytraced, really depends on the game but for action based/mmo it's not worth having on.
Lmao I'm in the same boat brother. I ended up giving away my 1080ti that was in my second pc, thinking I'd be able to upgrade to the 3090. I didn't expect the stock to get screwed up and so that build stayed without a gpu for years. My main pc still rocking a 2080ti and I can't complain about performance. The jump to a new cpu and gpu is gonna be crazy next year 😂
@@FantomMisfit I'll have you know that they were offering a full $5 off the going rate of a 4060. The various UA-camrs were quick to jump that the price was "finally falling on the 4060"... from $300 MSRP to $290 (for about a year) to a scant $285(!!!!!) on Black Friday.
I'm in the US and not willing to risk the tariffs in January making GPU prices skyrocket. Picked up a 7900XT Red Devil the other day for $660. Not really a mind blowing deal, but it is what it is.
I picked up my 7900xt for 599 when my state had a no sales tax day. So I got it for $599 shipped. I couldn’t be happier with the card especially for that price. Also got a 7800x3d for $360 so I was super happy about that. I was planning on upgrading once the 50 series came out but after using the 7900xt I think I’ll keep it. It’s an amazing card that does everything I want and anything more would just be chasing invisible fps at that point.
Section 301 is already a thing. Semi-conductors and metal goods already have tariffs and are already set to increase next year ( I believe in September, but I'd have to go back and read the documentation to be sure.). There is no rational reason to believe prices are going to drastically and suddenly increase in January.
@@knifemindwhy do you think Nvidia are bringing forward the announcement? It's so they can state a make believe RRP before the administration swaps over and prices sky-rocket as the tariff wars start. Then Nvidia will blame tariffs when the prices are nowhere near RRP
I wouldn't even be buying the new wave of 50 series cards. YOU JUST KNOW these will be the gimped versions, that nvidia will sell to mugs that can't wait till the refreshes, which will almost certainly be better and fix any problems with the first wave cards. This is what no competition gets you.
I've learned enough for the last 2 3 years, I just gonna pick it up discounted 4070ti super or 4080 super or 7900xtx and be happy for the next 3 to 4 years
yeah, this is the smart approach if you want to save money. Buy last gen like at least 1-2 month after a new gen as been released. Esp with radeon, you probably get discounted old stock for much better value than the new stuff. Waiting a bit after they released the new cards is key though, as AMD tends to do the thing with too high MSRPs and then have to lower prices. This usually then also pushed down their prices for last gen equivalents.
Amazon currently has a large return range for the holidays. If you order now, you can return the card all the way until January 31st. So if you need a card now, why would you not buy your card through amazon and use it until the new gpus are announced and see if it would be worth it to just return and upgrade?
Because I don't want the rushed Amazon delivery driver to be throwing my graphics card at my door in their hurry to make their quota? Less likely to get a damaged card if you go to a Micro Center or Best Buy store in person. That also avoids porch pirates.
@@Nevergiveup-z1g Amazon accepts returns on products in "like new" condition. If you have a justifiable reason for return (defective, not as advertised, etc.), then they'll offer a free return. The same thing always happens. Now is the time to buy. The new cards specs are released. Then prices of high end cards(used) plummet. Then the release happens and they sell out first 2 seconds and are marked up 200%. Then the old cards also skyrocket up again. If you want a deal buy a used high end card soon before release.

All in all got a 7800XT for $260 and I can trade it in for more next GPU cycle if I really feel like it.
I genuinely do not understand how GPU prices fluctuate like gas prices. How tf is it that every other product on the planet has an MSRP that it stays at, but SOMEHOW GPUs fluctuate and increase like every week. God it's so frustrating. I'm assuming it's artificial scarcity to squeeze as much out of consumers with as little effort as possible?
The general gist of the fluctuations is supply and demand. As demand increases, so does the price. As stock increases to meet the demand the price levels or goes down a little. Places like Amazon do this with everything, not just PC components. There are many reasons why demand is so high but one of the main ones is that PC gaming has been on the rise since the somewhat mediocre console launches, and it's around the average time all the people who bought a 10 or 20 series card are upgrading to a new one as the average upgrade cycle is every 5 years. This along with the AI boom and crypto still hanging on by a thread, the demand is just too high for GPUs to be stable in their pricing.
I usually agree with hardware unboxed, but not this time. The upcoming tariffs are not considered in this video and their effects will be felt worldwide. I'm buying something on discount this holiday season in preparation.
Yes totally agree for at least US customers. If Trump makes those companies pay 25% on all imported consumer electronics, obviously they'll raise the prices by about that much to maintain their margins. Maybe even use this as an excuse to dial it up a bit more - would esp. expect that for Nvidia in the high end, where there seems to be infinite demand and will be no competition to consider. Not so sure about the worldwide part though. I mean, sure companies may attempt to price gauge other regions as well, even if the US Tariffs should have no effect on them. But right now for example in the EU, you're already paying higher sales tax rates than the US, so I could see the prices just becomes a bit more aligned with US prices. At least in the lower/midrange where there will be competition, esp. if AMD goes for a better value proposition.
If the 5070 is expected to have 4070ti/super level of performance and 12gb of vram at 600usd, a 4070 super at 550usd or less is pretty much as good of a deal tbh

Even with the higher tariffs, Chump's spending spree, *PER HIS OWN CAMPAIGN'S NUMBERS* will likely cost the US 5.2x that over then next 4 years of what the Harris campaign was proposing. Remember: Chump printed 7.8 trillion dollars (25$ of the US's national debt) in just 4 years to prop up his failing economy. He did that largely under the guise of "Covid response". He's going to be taking that level of overspending, again.... per his own campaign... from day 1, which will likely lead to an economic crisis we haven't seen since the Regan Recession. That is, of course, if you believe he'll do what he says.
just bought a 4080 SUPER on the weekend for $1,300 Canadian at Best Buy (still an awful lot of money but better than the $1,500+ I was seeing online) so I'm good
Bought a 4080 for £850 two weeks ago. I wanted to sell my 4080 laptop before Jan to maximise value and get a desktop. Not risking waiting for the 50xx - you never know if they'll be available, faultless (wink wink 4090) and actually worth it. I am currently very happy with my new 7800x3d desktop
I just built 3 different pcs for family members with used parts but each of them has a 5700xt and that bad boy will be good for another couple of years as long as they stay on 1080p. Only reason I upgraded to a 7900xt was I saw a deal for 580 back in September and couldn’t resist.
I've had mine for almost 3 years now and play at 1440p. Just messed around and undervolted and OC'd the card. I'm holding for a can't miss deal on a 7900 series GPU, ( I missed the 765$ XTX Deal) If they dont come around I guess I will hold onto it for a few years since the whole Tariff thing in the US will probably make it unattractive to buy anything going forward.
As much as this is sound advice and a logical statement ("don't buy right before the launch of the new gen"), the last 4 years + new GPUs kept having the same price / performance ratio... it keeps just getting more expensive, instead of more improved. I'd say: you can NOT go wrong with a good deal! If you find today's RX7000s / RTX 4000s with a 20%+ discount (and of course is in your targeted performance tier / resolution), just go for it. Worst case scenario: after half of 2025, you'll have the same level of performance., offered for the same price again, just with the newer model name (-10 in the numbering / naming).
Here in the USA, the two-slot XFX Speedster SWFT 309 RX 6700 XT is once again on sale, this time at $269. There's also the XFX SWFT 319 RX 6800 for $339 (though this model is heuge, at 340mm long). If all you want is raster performance, those two have been the go-to models for the last year. Zotac's 4060 single-fan model comes and goes for $225 in the Promotions, Open Box section of their online store.
Thumbs up for a separate Aussie channel using the same data, but covering prices in AUD and relevant recommendations. It could cover both hardware and monitors unboxed content and would be absolutely 🔥🔥🔥
Geez they shoukdnhave done it already, after all they are based on Oz so why not showcase the super mega rip off we have always been subject to! A $1000USD MSRP 4080 Super , I would buy it hands down right now but hey here it was $2200AUD MSRP 😩
So by the sounds of it, getting a 7900xtx for 725USD is good right? Keep in mind in canada, the average 7900xtx was selling at 1400CAD, so about 1000 usd

What if i wanted to build a complete PC? Should i wait the 3-6 months for the new GPUs? I might also be worried about availability when i wait. What about scalpers? A 5070 might not be available for some time. My current build would have been a Ryzen 7 7700x (if available for a good price a 7800x3d) and a 4070 ti super or AMD 7900xt. Would have been my first PC again in 14 years that isnt a laptop
Just go for it if You feel the need. The waiting game is honestly a variant of a sunken cost game (time spent cost) - the more You wait, the more You feel You've invested in waiting and don't want to loose Your time invested in waiting. Just decide if You're interested in playing games or waiting to play games, and make the choice.
@provostkhot that's a good point. What would you go for? 4070 ti super or 7900xt? I mostly looking for 1440p high 60fps locked gaming for the next 3 years or so until the new consoles arrive, then I might upgrade again to a different GPU. I'm a bit worried about RT performance on the 7900xt. It is technically a better value and performance compared to the 4070 ti super, but a lot of games nowadays force RT on. I miss the time when you would get a high end card for 500€...
@@S3mj0n that really depends on what are Your expectations and Your local market. I don't care for RT, so I've gone with 7900GRE, but if You do, then nvidia would be the way to go.

Today I built a completely new system with an 7900XTX and 7800X3D for $1950 and I didn't skimp on the other components. In fact, I got an amazing Fractal case and other goodies. The reason I built my PC now is because my existing machine is an RTX 3080 and 10600k. The PC I had shipped today is a major improvement with a great price and I don't think I'll be able to come anywhere near that with a 5080. The only other card I had any interest in was the 5070, assuming it has at least 16g VRAM (hopefully, more), but I doubt it's performance will be more than 10-20% better than the XTX and I prefer having the headroom of 24g of VRAM.
I also went for a 7900 XTX. It was the lowest price in the card's history. Why would I wait months, not being able to play new games, and hope that the new gen isn't immediately sold out for a few % better performance at a similar price point?
I recently bought a 7800 XT, which replaced a vanilla 2070. The performance improvement is substantial and my 2070 was the source of frequent crashes in MSFS 2020. I'm more than happy with my purchase and I don't believe waiting until Spring/Summer next year for a new card would have been a benefit. Let's face it there is often a long lag between announcement and availability.
I recently just got a RTX 4070ti Super (like a day or so ago) during the black Friday deals for a little over hundred $ off (im in Australia) and I made this decision based of a number of things I have heard from the rumors of the upcoming 50 series. The first rumor is that the 50 series will be coming in at a slightly higher price point compared to their 40 series equivalents, I have also heard that they could be coming in at the same price point meaning for me either way to get a RTX 5070 or the 5070ti would cost me more than what I just paid for the 4070ti Super. The other factor I took into account is that the RTX 5070 will only have 12gb of VRam and if that turns out to be true then EVEN IF its performance is on par or slightly better than the 4070ti Super that VRam will eventually hold it back in some titles next to the 4070ti Super meaning I would rather be looking at the 5070ti that would end up costing me hundreds more over the 4070ti Super I just got, I also have to mention that even at the sale price the 4070ti Super was a little over my budget for a GPU but made a sacrifice in order to get it. The last factor was I have read rumors that Nvidia have stopped production of the 40 series and are in full production of the 50 series meaning by the time they release the 50 series/ announce them the 40 series will be reducing in stock levels and even if they get a price cut I doubt it would come in less than what I just paid not to mention that with lower stock levels I could potentially miss out all together and then be stuck buying a 50 series anyway. Given the uncertainty of inflation and the cost of living these days who knows what our finances will be like come February/March when the 5070/5070ti could release and my advice for others as I did for my self is that if you can get a deal now and its right on your budget then I dont really see a reason not to get the upgrade if you need it. If I have missed something in my analysis please explain and let me know but this is how I view the situation and im really happy with the performance of the 4070ti Super with my 4K monitor and unless the 50 series come out with some crazy performance gains over the 40 series im ok with 10-15 less for having the card now and at a decent price.
Thanks so much for your insights on the decision making to buy a GPU. I still cant decide if I should pull the trigger on RTX 4080super. But everthing at the moment says I should and you mentioned a lot of good reasons. I mean here in Australia there is no way you get a 25% discount 30% is delusional based on experience from last years sales.
Pretty much the same reasoning I came to when I purchased my 4070 Super, 30% off MSRP. Given Nvidia's track record 12gb of VRAM for the 5070 is likely. Even if it is 16gb, the whole VRAM narrative is pretty overblown in my eyes unless you're aiming for 4K, ultra high textures and at that point VRAM will be the least of your worries. With the 50 series likely increasing in price, the looming dread of US tariffs which will affect all regions, the further wait for potential discounts, I'm willing to take this gamble. Even so, with the 40 Series ending production, the aftermarket price will likely stay fairly strong and I can upgrade if the 50 Series is THAT much of an improvement.
Just last week I went from a 5600x, 16gb DDR4 3600hz and a TUF 3080 to a whole new Asus b650, 7600, 2nd hand 32GB DDR5 6000hz CL30 and a 7900 XT. Got the 7900 XT brand new for £640. CRAZY price drops happening right now. Night and day difference in performance. AM5 over AM4 is another league.
Considering the incoming us tariffs, its possible this is the cheapest time to buy cards in the near future. Considering the graphics card market, i also doubt we will get anything over minor gains atleast in the entry level market, which is why I bought a 3060ti used for $230 on amazon refurbished.
This^ just picked up a used 4080, with nvidia consistently raising prices and tariffs coming through, I have a feeling the gpu market will end up being the 30 series all over again
Thanks for the video. In German RX 7600 start around 240€, 4060 at 290 € and RX 7600 xt at 330 € Are 40% Premium worth for 16 instead of 8 gb Vram to go from 7600 to 7600 xt?
If nVidia is stopping production of 40 series then you'll have no choice but to pay what they set for the 50 series. So what's the incentive for them to sell you something with a large jump in performance per dollar? When was the last time it actually happened?
I think only GPUs to buy right now are 7900XT or 7900XTX, as they have dropped in price significantly, and RDNA 4 highest model is rumoured to be 8800XT
8800XT will be as strong as 7900XTX or extremely close to it while having much better RT, efficiency and price. No, you should only buy low-end AMD since even their RX 6000 cards are still relevant.
@@anitaremenarova6662 Close to 7900 XT, not XTX. Don't forget while newer and faster memory, only 16gb and only 256 bit bus. I think in 4K the old cards will actually shine. Power consumption should be a lot better though. and if rumors are true, Ray tracing as well. I will wait, i have both warm and cold feelings for 7900 xt, it's fast, (especially in 4k compared to Nvidia), i like raster, wich is very good at, i like much Vram wich again good at, i dislike ultra bad ray tracing (though who know i may not use it, but if it's 4x better on 8800 xt like some say, worth a try), and power consumption also not that good, price is also meh even after discounts still 680€, it might drop 600€, but is it worth it with crappy ray tracing and power consumption? Then again for video editing and 4k i think it will be better, with the insanely good VRAM capacity and 384 bit bus. 8800 XT may be smaller card, fitting into more cases.
This price to performance is only a thing if trump doesn’t put a 20-30% tariff on imported goods like he wants to. You know them greedy companies won’t eat that bullet to their profit margins.
I am worried that in the US waiting to buy a GPU is going to be detrimental due to proposed tariffs which will certainly make everything more expensive in the PC world.
I bought a new card. The 2080 super wasn't cutting it anymore and I have no interest in fighting scalpers for brand new released cards. I got an early black friday sale on it so that will likely be equivalent to whatever price drop may happen when the new cards release.
first time I strongly disagree with hardware unboxed. For those in the U.S. and Canada, now is the time to buy because Trump will add 46% tariff to GPU, making all models that much more expensive. December will be the last chance to buy any electronics from laptops to CPU to GPU, all of which are already confirmed to increase tariff by 46% as soon as Trump takes office. On top of that, its highly likely Nvidia will price everyone out of the market even further with the new releases.
Meh. I'll wait for a few gens yet happy on the sapphire 7800xt. Good enough for my needs without selling my soul to the darkside. My most recent upgrade required a new monitor which was unintended. I'm happy to sit back for a few gens moving forward - i really only game occasionally.
7900 series is worth purchasing since we won't see a replacement for those next year. So it's not likely they drop in price very much before just being out of stock. Also, the retailer you buy from is important. If you buy from somewhere that has a 30-60 day return period, then you could buy in late December and know in month if you should return that card or not.

I think the advice to hold off is bad advice overall. I listened to this same advice when the current gen was getting ready to launch. If the RTX 3080 you are talking about is the 12 GB model, go for it. If it's the 10 GB model, don't even think about it as it's already suffering from low VRAM. Either way, the 6800 XT is a great choice and unlike the 3080, you won't suffer from low VRAM when gaming at 1440p
honestly I would save my money, Any of those cards is a total overkill on FHD. I mean with the 6800xt I'm getting 100+ fps at 2k and even heavier games dont'go below 60fps with high settings. Unless you play competitevly and needs lotsand lots of fps (but then you have only a 144hz monitor so..). Or you go down a tier and try to find a bargain 6700xt. It's still an overkill but less, you're not gonna spend as much and you could resell it in the future losing less money, 12Gb of vram are going to be plenty even in the future (especially if you stay at 1080p).
I just got a used 6800 (which is similar performance to a 7700xt) for 240. There are still good deals around if you are patient. Though the new series' are coming out, if you find a good enough deal, go for it

Both "dont buy now" and "better buy it now" are dumb pieces of advice. You buy parts as personal opportunity permits and not based on what the market may or nay not do in a few months. So what if you spend 500 now just to have the same card be 450 in 3 months or be replaced with 600 dollar card that gives 20% performance. Would have "been a better deal to wait" is crying over spilt milk. You had the opportunity to buy something you wanted so you did. Other side of it, if its not the product you want dont buy it. Nonsense! 5090 - comes out with MSRP ~2499. 2 seconds after launch in all stores "out of stock". Where it is in stock, it costs 3000-3500+ dollars. 5080 comes out at a price of 1199 dollars. 2 seconds later everywhere "out of stock". And where it is in stock, it costs 2000+ dollars. At the same time, 5080 is slightly slower than 4090. You don't understand that when there is no competition = no recommended prices. Haven't you learned anything from your experience with 9800x3D? Recommended price is 480, real 680+ and even at 680 it is almost impossible to buy it anywhere. Buy 4080 super for 1000 now, this is the best time. In a month, 4080 super will no longer be in stores. Avoid the 4K oleds, they are shit and the next gen 4K oleds will be better and cheaper, buy a 1440p combo now use it for 1-2 years and then upgrade to 4K when the monitor and card to drive it are better and cheaper.
this video was what i needed to hear most~ I'm budgeted due to dealing with monthly income while recovering from surgery nearly a year ago, even with my prices for cards near me (3060 for 270, 3050 for 165) my options either get the card i want most and be left with much less, or the budget option that would be better than whats in my system now, but still not really justifiable of that price range considering reviews. have had lots of consideration on if i should just bite the bullet and get a slight upgrade for now, but with all this said in the video it realistically only makes sense to give it another month or so time to see if theres better prices for whats out there.

The 4070 TI/Super are also probably in that price range. If nVidia plays their cards right, a card with a comparable performance will be 600€ or less. The 8800XT is going to be around that tier, but probably also in the sub 600€ range.

the days when the 70-class performance matched the titan class of the previous gen
To be fair that was the only generation of GPUs that had that kind of performance jump, that was a once in a lifetime experience. Especially now that we're hitting the limits of silicon it is very unlikely we'll see that performance jump again.
If the rest of the 40 series stack had the same percentage of cores that the 10 series had versus its full die, it would have been.

No realistic comments on scalping/availability in January, nor on the impending trade war, either.
This video is so wishful.
This is not a good take at all
yah this guy's advice is terrible. it's easy for him to say since he'll have 0 issues getting a gpu.
i feel like it's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. if the leaks on the 5000 series cards turn out to be unfounded, they'll be out of stock and scalped constantly. if they don't and the MSRP is an absurd premium, the 4000 series is going to be out of stock and scalped constantly. either way, you're not upgrading unless you have the time to watch their storefront listings like a hawk.
i would say, if you can, upgrade now. you can at least sell your card later in both scenarios and have an up-to-date gaming experience while you wait for the fire to shrink.

Go look up the current tariffs. Semi-conductors and metal goods are already under tariff and already set to increase substantially in the coming year or two. This was signed in May I believe. Trump may want to tariff other goods, but anything he does will have a little to no effect on GPUs because that's already going to happen.

I don't even think RT is worth it in singleplayer games, honestly. Very happy with my 7900 XTX. It's a beast.
I always turn off ray tracing, its kills performance for a small improvement in visuals.

Granted I'm a patient gamer so I only buy games that are fixed if they need too, don't run like crap in the first place, and on heavy discounts bare a few exceptions. We're in diminishing returns era so last gen makes the most sense if you don't suffer from FOMO. A potential RX8800XT that runs like 7900XT at 230-250W for 500€ would have my attention, and that's about it.
I'm hoping too for that 8800 XT but i feel like the 7900 XT will still win with 4GB more and 384-bit bus ram (8800 xt is 256 bit bus), i'm also scared the price will be ok but not good (aka 600-700€) rather then 500-550€. If in 500€ range will be hard to resist, especially if power consumption is good (250 watt) and ray tracing is better and FSR 4 seems it will be good.
I just bought a 4080 super from Amazon. My logic is that I can just let it sit in the box (since it’s returnable until 31st jan), and if the 5080 comes out and is around the same price (£1k) then I can get one and return the 4080 super. If the 5080 is overpriced then I can just stick with the 4080 super. I know £1k is ridiculous anyway for a gpu but right now if you’re trying to go high end there really isn’t much choice…
the choice is to not pay, price rise because of people like you
@ how is that a choice? I wanna play big games on high graphics, if I don’t buy a good gpu how am I gonna do that? I don’t like what nvidea is doing but what can we do. You’re delusional if you think enough people are gonna boycott them for prices to ever go down

I pulled the trigger on a 7800XT for about $450 before discounts etc and traded in my 3060ti... wasn't worth the risk of US tariffs pending/unknown along with the potential my trade-in is worth less next GPU cycle. All in all got a 7800XT for $260 and I can trade it in for more next GPU cycle if I really feel like it.
With Amazon holiday return policy ending 31st Jan, you could probably get one now and return it as the new ones come out in Jan.
That’s exactly what I’m doing 👍🏽

What stays at its manufacturer's set price?
Greed and mining
I was waiting to buy mine as I’m eying a 4070 ti super. I do wonder if they plan to still discount 40 series even with the tariffs.
If the 5070 is expected to have 4070ti/super level of performance and 12gb of vram at 600usd, a 4070 super at 550usd or less is pretty much as good of a deal tbh
it won't be 600 XD 700 +new tariffs
@gameison4813 US prices with tariffs are what the rest of world is already paying, so nothing's is changing lol

I've been rocking a 6700xt for 3 years now and it looks like I have to wait even longer now
I just built 3 different pcs for family members with used parts but each of them has a 5700xt and that bad boy will be good for another couple of years as long as they stay on 1080p. Only reason I upgraded to a 7900xt was I saw a deal for 580 back in September and couldn’t resist.
That's not a long time, 4-5 years is how much I expect my new gpu to last anyway.
That's such a good card! If you haven't messed around with undervolting & memory OC you can have fun making it feel new
I've had mine for almost 3 years now and play at 1440p.
Not too bad, I have been using a rx5700 for 5 years now and finally upgrading to a 7800xt
As much as this is sound advice and a logical statement ("don't buy right before the launch of the new gen"),
the last 4 years + new GPUs kept having the same price / performance ratio... it keeps just getting more expensive, instead of more improved.

The only other card I had any interest in was the 5070, assuming it has at least 16g VRAM (hopefully, more), but I doubt it's performance will be more than 10-20% better than the XTX and I prefer having the headroom of 24g of VRAM.
just bought a 7900xtx for 860€ (normal price was around 1100€ for the last two years), i know rdna 4 is going to disapoint as always with amd
I mean, there's no high-end this time so good pick on your part.
In German RX 7600 start around 240€, 4060 at 290 € and RX 7600 xt at 330 €

Slight problem with the "wait till January" argument for new GPUs.
I have a new PC now and I need a GPU now to use it.
Yes. You read that right. NEED.
That’s the model I am excited for cause anything over that I would consider Nvidia tbh, hopefully 8800Xt won’t disappoint

7900 series is worth purchasing since we won't see a replacement for those next year. So it's not likely they drop in price very much before just being out of stock. You should keep your 6600. If you can't afford a new card in the next months, then you can't afford it now either.
6800XT for sure. 4% slower than the 3080 but has 16GB VRAM instead of 10. Much more futureproof.

As much as people want to try to avoid the political outcome, GPUs WILL be affected in the US, and it's not really ideal to try to play it off telling people to wait until the new GPUs are out, when they're going to be increased in price from this offset.
With higher refresh rate 4k monitors becoming more affordable (especially OLED), is now the time to concern ourselves with the type of connectors on the GPUs we buy?
Should we be looking at HDMI 2.1 / DP 2.1 (UHBR 13.5) AMD 7000 series now instead of buying the older tech on sale?
Are there any details on the RTX 5000 series connectors?
Example: I recently upgraded my office setup to triple 4k 144hz monitors. To make full use of them, I need to replace the GTX 1060 that was driving the old set up (HDMI 2.0, DP 1.4, DVI)
I pulled the trigger on a 7900xtx for 700 bucks. I hope I won't regret it 🙏
You definitely won't.
The next time I buy a GPU I'm pretty much buying a whole new system. Moving from AM4 to AM5. But I got some legs with my current build for a while.

Save for the thing you actually want.
These channels are here to market products, you are 100% correct.
@@pituguli5816 These channels are here to _review_ products. You don't have to waste time with testing if you just want to market them. If you want marketing, you can always watch Linus Tech Tips.
my purchase of the 7900 xt, 21 months ago was one of my best purchases I have ever made. Really only 2 cards outshine it (for way more $$$), if you don't care about ray tracing and you don't need DLSS (it looks bad anyway) it still is great.
In 2 months you will buy 5080 for 2000 dollars and get 15% more fps than 4080 super.
Nobody will buy the 5080, it'll be an even greater flop than 4080
They sold tens and tens of thousands of 9800X3D's. All of these parts will be in stock full time after a few months. Sorry if you're not in the USA, but stock here is several times a week at MSRP
9800x3D official launch in Europe is between 7th - 14th January. Before that, they fill up warehouses in U.S.
there is still AMD,
why care about that 4080s for 1000 if there is a 7900xt for 600? its +70%$ for 15%fps?
or XTX for 800 and its faster...
If you care about price/performance then Nvidia is not for gamers at all
@@jermygod Because AMD won't be making a 8900XT or higher next gen.
6:43 Your 4090 25% and 30% discounted value are the same number, FYI.
I'm looking at a Stalker 2 3050 6GB deal but I'm usure. Wouldn't one of those picture frames that swap out the image every couple of seconds be cheaper ?
You won't be getting 60fps with that card in Stalker 2. The 3050 6gb only makes sense for certain builds. Like upgrading a weak office PC into something that can play games.
@@fuzzydunlop7154 I'm glad that game exists if only to highlight the Nvidia BS. They tried to cover themselves with the cut down 3050 by making a few low profile models but that's a smallish user base. Right now even 8GB is looking to me like it's going to be a real bottleneck as time goes on. Those 1% and .1% lows will be the problem.
@@vespasian606 you could always get an ARC card. Really good price to performance and no shorting of vram, since intel is desperate for market share.
8gb is 1080p entry level pc gaming nowdays. wouldn't buy anything with 6gb, you are better off simply getting a playstation at that point
3050 would pretty much just be good for older games and cs2
This makes me feel so good about getting a 4070 Super for $530 after taxes back in March when Newegg had a 17% off deal on it. Definitely the best bang for the buck this year
And to think they were going to call it the 4080 12GB 😅
Protip: if you NEED an upgrade buy right now. The next gen 50 cards are way worse FPS/Dollar. The ONLY cards worth buying will be the 50-SUPER refresh cards with 50% larger VRAM modules that will launch at the end of 2025. Also because of the lack of actual discounts the best value combo this black friday was an Asus OLED 240hz 1440p monitor for 550$ and a 4070SUPER for 600$ If you got those two then you got the best value upgrade for the entire year. Avoid the 4K oleds, they are shit and the next gen 4K oleds will be better and cheaper, buy a 1440p combo now use it for 1-2 years and then upgrade to 4K when the monitor and card to drive it are better and cheaper.
More like 2026, also the 5090 and 5070ti will be worth buying but that's about it.
Excellent post 👍
this video was what i needed to hear most~ I'm budgeted due to dealing with monthly income while recovering from surgery nearly a year ago, even with my prices for cards near me (3060 for 270, 3050 for 165) my options either get the card i want most and be left with much less, or the budget option that would be better than whats in my system now, but still not really justifiable of that price range considering reviews. have had lots of consideration on if i should just bite the bullet and get a slight upgrade for now, but with all this said in the video it realistically only makes sense to give it another month or so time to see if theres better prices for whats out there.
If in the USA, get when you can for the most new or used before 1/19.
Considering Nvidia is rumored to be releasing their flagships to 2k USD and if you're in the US with the threat of stupid tarrifs on January 6th, them at least in the US, might not be the best advice.
240$ for used Rx 6800 good?
Great card for a very good price.
Bro I'm not concerned with the new graphics cards dropping but more of the tariffs that Trump is going to impose, driving up the prices of all existing and new gpus
I got 7900xtx for 700$ on amazon from black friday deal is it worth if ?
What’s wrong with a 7800xt nitro plus for £478 ?
nothing i got a friend to buy one at the same price, just bought a 7900xtx for 860e
Nothing. Just buy it if you need it.
If you don't need it, wait until you either need it to play new games or have that "oh my god I want this!!" Moment.
Just get a 6800XT, almost the same performance and much cheaper.
Just priced out a build and was focused on high efficiency / low power, got deals on both a 9700X and a 4070 Ti Super and with undervolting, I have the whole system running at just around 300W at full tilt. That's pretty awesome for quiet, SFF 1440 RT gaming.... So, it all depends on use case I guess. There's something for everyone right now, not counting the general lack of of 9800X3D availability.
A note: if you live in the US, you actually probably should buy a GPU right now, unless you are ok waiting at least 4 years. Trump tariffs are going to wreak havoc on the tech sector, and it will genuinely cost 600 or 700 for a 4060 soon enough. Really shitty situation, but it is what it is. Awful time to be a PC gamer in the USA.
Well people in the US have been getting all those parts much cheaper than almost everyone else for a long time.
@@loganmedia1142 Duhh, because of VAT. You know, the thing you pay in exchange for free/heavily-subsidized healthcare, education, and public transit?
The US will get none of that in return for massively- higher prices.
This apple is not this orange.
Just found a 7900XTX on Amazon for at least $400 less than any other store, online or brick. Got super lucky as I expect prices to be ridiculous next year on the 5k series with no AMD competition to speak of
90 return policies almost everywhere this time of year. Buy now, review at launch and return or keep.
This BS about waiting is the dumbest thing to say since prices have gone up each generation.
